I dont know why the above is so funny. As a lifeguard and rescue diver there's nothing really that funny about it. However what is funny, is it gives you a legal excuse to crack them in the head with a boat paddle *if you're in a boat trying to rescue them, their panicing can capsise the boat.* Even better though is you can sock them in the head too if you're in the water. So if you see someone drowning you hate, you can go "save" them and at the same time kick their ass.
On another note, Skype has been around for a while, and I use FreeWorldDialup along with Broadvoice with a Asterisk PBX. I have two outbound lines that can connect to any VoIP service, as well as PSTN numbers. 25 bucks a month with 2 different availiable dial in numbers for other people to use. I have a number in the two most likely locations for people to be calling me from. I'm going to be setting my mom up soon on FWD and broadvoice as well.
I'd rather go somewhere where someone is willing to pay me for my abilities, not have me slave for them for free. Though if the're looking at working there after graduation, and get credit, they're getting something out of it. I'm getting a job out of where I'm working, and I'm getting paid, and they're going to pay for graduate school possibly. But I guess thats what I get for going into engineering.
Well you're job as an intern you may not get paid. I have yet to have an internship where I dont get paid. Though I'm not wading through someone else job, I'm producing actual projects and products to be sold. I'm just like any other employee, and I dont get the shaft on pay either. I'm at least twice above minimum wage.
Thats not the problem. The family uses FF, its the little sisters friend that doesn't. Its also pretty obvious when you open FF its not IE and she goes and hunts IE down when she doesn't get it. We're talking its gone, she has to goto RUN or through Explorer to get there. However she may just open explorer and enter a URL. I should dig through the GP's and see if there's a way to prevent explorer from accepting URLs.
There are some sites with embedded content that dont work in FF. Though most of those are disappearing, I know I haven't seen one in a long time. What I really need to do, which would be easy in Linux is just to prevent IE from running.
Dang it why can't windows have USER and GROUP RWX permission tags.
Yeah I have an image already, however getting the data backed up is whats going to take the time. As they're 300 miles away, repairs only get done when I'm in town, and the next time I'm there, I'm there for a wedding. Lets just say its gonna be interesting. As it is, after this reinstall I will have migrated them to Linux. They will still have windows because my fiances mom needs IE for when she works from home. I'm not sure of the details, but she works for the government so I'm sure that has something to do with it. But all web browsing and standard computer tasks will be done from Linux.
Thanks for the suggestion though, I appreciate it.
Actually from my experience, often even into the early 20s alot of people suffer from the, dont know things they should, or even more than that, the invincibility item. Now before someone snaps at me over the invincibility thing, even I suffered from it and admit it. I took many unneccessary risks looking back, and all it took was one accident, which was a judgment call, that little voice in my head that said, sure you can make it was shut up.
My fiance's little sister doesn't listen to anything either of us say, what do we know, you're only 22, what do my parents know, I'm 18 and I just graduated so I know more than you. She posted a butt load of personal info on MySpace. Only info of me on their is enough for friends from highschool I haven't seen in a long time to find me, and thats the only thing I use it for.
Now I know there's some serious problems with MySpace but as long as you're not a moron, you'll be fine. I gave my sister one of the best gifts possible, I found a really good friend of hers from childhood that she hadn't talked to for 4 years and she seriously fell off the face of the earth. I found her on myspace. Connecting to people you've lost contact with, it's nice, meeting people to date, STUPID. No offense to those who do it but if you do, take friends with you when you meet them, dont meet them at your residence, but a public place like a mall, make sure you tell people where you're going and when to expect you back as well. Also meeting them one time is not enough to give them the keys to your house. Don't trust anything over the net, it's easy to lie. Good example, 14 year olds can find porn, all they do is click the "I'm over 18" button.
Thats my rule with my inlaws. They follow it well, the younger sister also pays attention, however she lets her friends play on the computer. They HUNT down that f**kin E, *Were talking its off the desktop, out of quick launch and the start menu, there are no short cuts left. The surf the web with IE making sure to hit every site that could nail a virus, and spyware to it. Then the sister doesn't bother scanning the machine for spyware before logging off. Please note I now have to reformat and reinstall. I just gave her a new laptop as a graduation gift, with a couple notes, first of which ONLY Firefox is to be used, if I see the IE has been used, she gets to pay me for my time. She just ignored it. Both of her parents looked at me and said thats a little mean isn't it, my response, "Her ignorance is why I have to spend a bunch of time fixing your machine for free, I don't ask you to make me a new block for my truck for free because you're my father in-law and a machineist." They got the point. My girlfriend and I both haven't got any virii or spyware and that includes my mom too now that I think about it. All of us browse extensively online, and use FireFox exclusivly, coupled with SpyBot, AVG, and a decent firewall, you're pretty damn secure.
Firefox's BIGGEST point for me is the ease of installing plugins and themes. Adblock, distrust, trustwatch, foxytunes, and forcast fox, all items I dont see Microsoft doing on their own, and thats just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to FF plugins.
I for one dont think that IE7 is going to really dent FF usage, there are way to many advantages that IE can never really compete with, mainly thanks to the ease of writing plugins.
Do TOO!... I use linux and have a girlfriend... I even got her to use Linux on her primary desktop, now all she does is bitch about windows... All I have to say, thats better than what most women bitch about.:D
And in refrence to women using KDE because their neat freaks... she runs KDE.
Thank you! I'm sick of people not wanting to raise their kid, and then when their kids get their hands on something they complain to the state instead of taking care of the problem themselves. Its an issue of responsibility, some are willing to take it, others aren't.
According to your logic, so is everyone who purchases the material. Her statement pertains only to creation of material. Also she wasn't talking just about IP, she was actually refering more towards the physical, for a man who has no ability to hunt, fish, or grow his own food will surely starve without the help of others. I can survive however without my downloads.
One thing I'm suprised no one has brought up, all my friends have said the same thing, if they charged a more reasonable price for music and didn't limit what we can do with it, we'd be more than happy to buy it. When you go to the store though and buy only 4 cds and it runs you 80 bucks and that was at Walmart, thats pretty damn steep. Now according to the RIAA ripping the discs and placing them on a file server makes you a pirate. Because I have all my cds there on my server so I can play them easily through winamp, I can also create an MP3 CD to play my music in my car. The reason I use MP3 cds, dont have to change discs as often, as well as the fact if I'm in a major accident, all my music survives on my server. I speak from experience on that line, I lost 50 CDs in a violent wreck because I hadn't burnt them onto CD-Rs yet. It would have cost me over 1000 bucks, but my friend had many of the same disks as me, so I copied the ones he had, I still have the damaged disks, but I use the copy I got from him... PIRACY according to them.
Now lets say you buy it off of I-Tunes. 99 cents a song. I haven't browsed much, but lets see here approximately 15 songs per album, 4 albumbs, 60 bucks. You saved 20 bucks, however its not in MP3 format, and to use it on anything other than an I-Pod and in I-Tunes takes serious work. Piracy is not just because we want something for free, at least not among my circle, its because they over charge, we already own it, and we believe that once we purchase it we have the right to listen to it however we want, we bought it.
Don't quote Ayn Rand thinking that makes you sound smart while at the same time trying to insult people. She happens to be one of my favorite authors. There is a reason this debate is so hot, because they are trying to blanket legit issues as piracy. I would suggest pulling your head out of that dark crack on your back side. Coward!
That was over a year ago now. Our gas is running about 3.10 a gallon right now. If I hop the border into Idaho its 2.95, that inflation is the gas tax.

I wouldn't wait for them to show up at my house. The best defense is a good offense. Most dont realize this but you can immeadiately find out any warrants that have been issued for you. All you do is call 911 and tell them it is not an emergecny and request a list of any warrants issued in your name. Logistically this all is a pain in the ass. But have you noticed that minor things, and most of the BS laws, they do NOT show up at your house for, there's a solid reason for that, it is considerably more effort, time and money. Also should that actually end up in court infront of a jury, one thing that alot of people dont realize is that the jury can also look at the validity of the law. If it is completely assanine they can vote to acquit. Such as trying to nail you for copyright infringment for playing a CD in your computer because it gets copied into memory.
Also in refrence to Iraq comment. Please also note how insurgants are so effective against the American military. Most of the reason that the armed people in Iraq didn't do anything about Saddam is many of them were on his side. Ask any Jew about what Hitler did just after coming into power. Those who were a threat to him were disarmed while leaving those who were supportive armed. Also you state that most things aren't done with firarms. Yes alot of what we see on TV is exposives, RPGS, etc, however firefights are not uncommon. I have three friends there currently, I would be if it wasn't for a medical disqualifier, two of my friends were in firefights.
Now I'm going to avoid running completely offtopic, however I will say this, everyone looks at it as if we would fight the military. The military would actually end up divided, just like the Civil War. Reason being, there are those that truly pay attention to the oath to defend the constitution and American Citizens. There is nothing actually saying to defend the politicans or the current institution used for governemnt.
Personally I feel that the primary role of firearms are self defense, however they do serve others as well. To discount them thinking times have changed is not right. Another example is the revolution, the British had a Navy, Artillery, Cavelry, the best army in the world. We were a bunch of farmers with rifles and pitch forks. The reason we won, was because of determination, creativity, and logistics. Fighting a war far from home rarely works.
I would suggest studing American military history intensively, especially everything before the Civil War.

Actually in my book, its as long as I have my firearms. The government can claim to do this that and the other thing, however with an armed populace, the goverment must still tread softly. You know what kicked off the American Revolution? The British going after an armory. Also we have a republic, not a democracy, we elect representatives to vote for us. The problem is, most representatives now days no longer care about their voters, instead the care about those willing to shell out money into their pockets. At this point as well, voting in the US doesn't do much good. If the voters vote something down, whoever's affected complains till they get their way. Case in point, Seattle's Safeco Field. Voted down twice by the voters of Washington state, yet we're paying for it anyway. Same thing for the recent governers race. She lost, and had complained till she won, immeadiately after she hiked our gas prices by 10 cents, *when it was already 2.80 a gallon*. And a better example of how messed up that was, if you look at it county by county, she only won maybe 3, however King is so big, that they can tell the rest of the state what to do. Including telling farmers they cant shoot varmits, or telling farmers how to run their farm, costing farmers money and livestock. That ordinace was repealed after a riot almost insued in downtown Seattle.
Most people dont search google for political items anyway, they watch CNN, CSPAN, FOX News, etc. I would much rater watch a debate, than read a transcript. Its the difference between reading something, and hearing the tone in their voice.
I do care about all the bull that they're doing, however complaining to your REP doesn't get anything done any more. I've tried, more people care than what you think, but also alot of those that don't care, used to but they see the system being so corrupt, they look at it as a waste of time.
On that note, I can do and say what I want, becase if they want to come and arrest me over bull, I wont just go quietly, I'll shoot back.
Actually using any computer without authorization is illegal. Its why you can go after someone for gaining access to your machine, sending spam is the same thing. The biggest thing is prosecutors dont care about going after easy cases. What they really want is someone who is a good upstanding citizen thats done nothing wrong to end up in the wrong place at the wrong time. Such as your car hitting ice and causing a major accident. Then they'll file two felony counts against you, one completely bogus for a guy with whiplash, and another for your fiance. You could be an eagle scout, straight A student, and associated with the military. They will nail you to the wall, ruin your life, and make sure you can do nothing but flip burgers for the rest of your life. Now if you think the above is bogus, it's not. The county I live in came after me after I hit ice. Damn near ruined my life, got lucky with a plea deal that bumped it to a misdeamnor so it can be expunged after 2 years (thats the only reason I took the deal).
Remember this, there is no corrolation between the law and justice. The law is there to protect those with the power and welth. Not to protect the law abiding.
My editor for coding already does something like this. (SlickEdit) The key to having a decent system to do this, is have auto saves placed into a temporary file, and when you hit the save button the program asks you for revision information. Now this is only really necessary for released code/documents, to do this on a program you're working on currently that hasn't been released is pointless.
Most editors actually do this, for example if you open MS Word, type type and type, if it crashes it will bring up the last auto save, however if you close it and you say "do not save changes" the origional file is preserved.
Wow! I'm not the only person that knows this distinction!? Well we all know what an actual democracy is, two wolves and a sheep getting together to decide whats for dinner. They last just as long as it takes the public to discover they can vote themselves money from the treasury.
A republic was supposed to prevent this with the politicans having to keep the voters happy, and the public could retaliate if the did something that wasn't liked, including vote them out of office. At this point though this countries system has become so corrupt that the politicans are protecting themselves, and controlling the process. Case in point, the votes come back one way, someone somewhere goes around it and still gets their way. All of congress has forgotten that the Constitution is the supreme law of the land, no one is above it, and no laws can go against it without writing an amendment.
All I have to say, I still have my guns, and if they want to steal my house and property, I will shoot back.
And because of that reason, what criminal would try it. For fun I set my laptop out and asked a bunch of my friends to try and crack the password. 6 hours later nothing, then I said, watch this. Ctrl-Alt-Del... and just press enter. I cleared the password and NO ONE tried it. Alot of people forget the little thing known as K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple Stupid.) By keeping it simple you will get through about 85% of the publics passwords, most relate to themselves in one form or another. I mean who really has a password like: $eRtuX5&z.!:D
Why is it they think a law will make EVERYONE hand over their encryption keys. The people they want to track are criminals, so why would a criminal abide by this law especially if its going to get him caught. If you outlaw encryption only outlaws will encrypt.
However, sadly this doesn't suprise me with the current state of affairs in all public offices through out the world.
I personally will now make sure to encrypt everything I send to the UK. Who's with me!?
I say good riddence and I hope he rots in hell.... Wait thats what my friends and I are gonna say at each other's funerals, he's not good enough for that.
Why don't they just lock him in Irons and create a website where each time its visited he's shocked... Then we just slashdot it.:D
Sadly I am very dissappointed that he's only getting 6 years, the US goverment tried nailing me for more than that for something I didn't even do. They didn't even have evidence. *It was a accident in bad weather and they tried nailing me on two counts of felony vehicular assault, one count was nothing more than whiplash, the other was my fiance and she ripped the prosecutor a new one. All they had was eye witness statements none of which were the same.* This guy had more evidence against him than you could shake a fist at, including threats to those willing to stand up to him, including threats to government buildings. Doesn't that classify him as a terrorist? Lock his ass up and throw away the key.
Anyone who has ever gotten a ticket knows that the reason they bring it to you and have you sign it is to prove that you were infact driving the car at the time of the infraction. When you place cameras and have them do all the citing for traffic infractions, tickets become that much easier to fight.
Lets use this as an example, its 3 am and you're sitting at a red light. No traffic is coming from either direction and then you notice in your rear view mirror someone closing in on you way too fast. You all the sudden hear their brakes lock up and they're obviously too close and still going too fast, what do you do? Personally I run the red light, no cross traffic, and I'm avoiding an accident. You bring that before a judge, the ticket will be dismissed. Reason being is there is no reason to subject yourself or property to injury or damage because of a traffic signal.
The same can be said about speed limits, if you're passing someone on a two lane highway, find me one person that does it at the speed limit, more specificly find someone who has lived to tell about it. Do the math if you dont believe me. Example 65 mph zone, someone's doing 60 instead, that means you pass at 5 miles per hour. That means you close at about 7 feet per second. You need to account for the space behind the vehical your passing as well as the front, and lets say its a semi, total thats going to be about 95 feet. 95/7 =14 seconds. That means for almost a 1/4 of a minute you're in the oncoming lane, at 65 miles an hour you actually cover 1430 feet, over a quarter mile. I live in Pullman WA and often travel to seattle on highway 26. That distance is often pushing the limits of passing zones and sight limits. Personaly I prefer to minimize time in the oncoming lane and do what is necessary to protect myself and my passengers.
Personally I feel that this is nothing but another form of big brother. This way they can watch us all the time, and try and railroad us in to what they want. The biggest kicker about all of this is they have to prove who was driving the vehicle, just because its your car, does not actually make you liable for the ticket because you could have lent it to your buddy joe. Again this is why it comes back to you signing the ticket when you get one.
I have helped numerous friends fight tickets, and I have fought a few myself, I was the only one to actually end up paying, but as it was a wolfpack that busted me, there's no real hope at getting out of that, it was reduced by well over half however. I've seen other instances where you have no option but to run a red light, truck with heavy machinery, rapid light change, chase car can't see the light. You have two options, run the light and you just have to worry about people jumping the light, one you should always be careful just after a light change, or 2 slam the brakes, slide into the intersection most likely, and damage the $30,000 dollars worth of equipment in the back. Again, you drive your car, you are responsible for what happens, but you shouldn't let the traffic signs drive your car for you.
Yeah at that rate I'd go find another internship, I've never been paid that low in my life for an internship.

P = ~P
For those who haven't had any Philosphy classes relating to logic... P equals NOT P.
When they prove that, we'll I'm building myself a perpetual motion machine.
I mean who really has a password like: $eRtuX5&z.! :D
:D
Why don't they just lock him in Irons and create a website where each time its visited he's shocked... Then we just slashdot it.
Just my two cents.
