DB2 a answer to dBase? have you ever used it? For big ass databases (terabyte size, not some 1 Gig on that holds crap for slashdot) that don't ever die and serve ass loads of data to ass loads of clients DB2 on a mainframe or a RS/6000 will leave the open source databases in the dust.
Z/OS (successor to OS/390,MVS...) has been maturing for over 40 years now. Linux hasn't had anywhere near that amount of time to mature, not to mention that the hardware that Z/OS runs on is designed to be reliable from the ground up. give linux 40 years any maybe it'll be as reliable as Z/OS is now. At this moment, it is not even close.
so people should give up their tools of choice and jump on to the newest fad language? Lots of folks (my self included) like C. It's got some issues that are a pain in the ass, but if you've written lots of it, you like it, and your good at it, why change?
I would never sign away my rights to take a class. Luckly, different professors teach the same class at my school, so if a professor tried to make me sign such an agreement, I can tell him/her to shove it up their ass.
windows does not have a VMS core.
I know that. I am telling you that linux can run in both modes, just like any of the other mainframe operating systems can.
You can run linux in a VM or on an LPAR on a zSeries.
Case sensitivity is a UNIX thing, not a linux thing.
I'm sure the response to this will be "buy a cluster of dells..." Which I will respond with: A cluster is not the best solution for every problem.

( yes, ass is a nice modifier )
but they don't write that information to disk. It all goes away the next time the executable is run.

I doubt they developed anything. They simply bought the IP from novell, who bought it from AT&T.
hotpulg works on redat 8.0 just fine. my usb printer, mouse, PCMIA cards, etc. can be plugged/unplugged.
When I've submitted patches to projects, I always get a thank-you.
HTML is not programming.

fontconfig is an open system. check out the fontconfig web site it is supported at the toolkit level ( QT, GTK+ both support it ).
QT and GTK+ on redhat 8.0 are both configured with fontconfig support, Mozilla also supports it.
Geez, the meat at Mc Donalds already tastes like it was grown in a high school chemistry lab.
Lotus notes does this quite well also.
I disagree. Text for me looks just as good on my gnome desktop as they do in windows.
try this:
export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.2.5
and see if it fixes your java problems.
I would consider a register system that runs windows a POS.
I beat raiders of the lost ark, the last part where you had to parashute into the hole was a pain in the butt.
dumbass operators can fuck any enviroment up. UNIX, NT, OS/390, etc. Nobody has made a operating system that is able to withstand dumbasses.
think about the if and of parameters of the dd command.
I believe it comes from a show called family guy.
well is it?
