Well Umm yeah... but NewEgg sells this same stick of Kingston 256mb PC-133 (name brand!) for $26 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820136009
MSRP is $76.. Why pay more than MSRP??
You can get a new no name/off brand 256mb PC-133 module on Ebay for $6 with FREE shipping..
They shouldnt blame their customers for simply looking for an honest bargain.
Honest bargains hangout with unicorns and Santa Claus. But more seriously, where does this entitlement attitude come from? There's this mass misconception that products are "marked up". Really? From what baseline?
Well for example..
Day 1 of the closing sale.. 4 gig Sandisk SD Ultra II was $24 pre discount then 10% off.. (even then not a great price but I'm not knocking them for that)
1 week later they had re-priced them. Now the base price was up to $49 and then 20% off.
This is the same card I could but NEXT DOOR at Staples for $14.99
Another example.. I had purchased a wireless Keyboard/mouse for $31 at that CC store the week before they announced the closings. During the sale the base price on that item was $50
Wii Giitar Hero World Tour band kit was $189 before the sale.. marked up to $200 after.
Deals were few and far between, prices were not marked on 50% of the store items so as you can imagine the abandon rate was huge at the register.
Then I think what really pissed people off what the advertising..
In the final week they were waving 75% off signs in the streets but only cables were marked down to that level.. most everything else was still 30% or less. Even at 75% off the stupid cables were more then the same ones at Best buy..
At one time we had a guy who was leaving to work for Microsoft.. The boss wanted him to stay 4 weeks.. Microsoft wanted his asap or 3 weeks max. They turned it into a big email fight.. HR got involved. He was terminated that day and given 4 weeks severance.. Go figure.
He started his new job later that week and pocked a months pay free.
Then just to make it a little sweeter he was sent to our site as a ROS Engineer 6 months later.
Mu biggest fear is them stuffing some poor clerk in a 8ft tall Clippy suit and turning him loose in the mall. My worst desktop support nightmare come to life..
On the other hand I'll finally have the chance to beat that stupid paperclip senseless..
Just make sure you get a converter box with Component Video out (also called YPbPr).
You can't get a Component Video out in a NTIA eligible box
It's part of the requirements The following outputs are not allowed
Digital Video Interface (DVI);
Component video (YPbPr);
High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI);
Computer video (VGA);
USB IEEE-1394 (iLink or Firewire)
Ethernet (IEEE-802.3)
Wireless (IEEE0802.11)

HP tried with their first Blade servers. They came with a 48v power supply that mounted in the bottom of the rack that could power a whole rack full of blade chassis or you could wire it to your telco PS.
The 2nd generation moved to AC power, funny that they are thinking of going back again.
I forgot to say.. I used to work 4 10's when I worked in Broadcast TV. The hours get a bit long and in the winter you don't see the sun unless you step outside in the middle of the work day.
It's really nice having a week day off on a regular basis to get things done. Having to cram it all into a lunch break sucks.
Our whole work site is run on a 9/80 work schedule.. It works out great and you end up with a couple 4 day weekends around the holidays. We typically work 7am-4:30pm with 4 9's and an 8 on the full work then 4 9's on the off week.
Christmas fell on the Friday off this year so we only had to work 2 days that week (2 paid days for Christmas, Christmas eve here) On the down side we had to work 10 hours for each of those 2 days. ( 2 - 8 hr holiday pay plus 4 hr rollover from last week left 20 hours to cover for the 40 hour week) Most people just burned a couple vacation hours and worked a 9 hour days.
As for off day coverage.. We have a group who works the opposite schedule taking the other Friday off so we have coverage on the off weeks.
My dad took a different twist on the schedule.. 4 9's and a 4 hour Friday every week.He figured all he did on the full day off was sleep in so half the day was wasted anyway.. Be having to get up and work a half day he could enjoy his afternoon off every week.
Besides, in this economy nobody is looking to jump ship if they don't have to.
No the reaction is exactly the opposite.. In a bad economy they want to jump from the sinking ship on their own terms when the pickings are still good...
Not be thrown in the pool with the rest of the masses hoping to grab any job that comes along..
You know what happens when they announce this kind of stuff? The top 20% start looking for new jobs and bail out or retire. They don't want or need to deal with the tasks from the bottom 20% who got canned.
My last company got in a crunch and started a round of layoffs.. They managed to drag the selection process on so long almost all the top level admins, DBAs and programmers bailed out before they could name people. In the end there were very few layoffs because all the top people left and didn't get replaced..
I ran a broadcast TV transmitter for 4 years.. Worked in broadcast TV for 10.. 3 years in Radio..
If anything we worked to keep the transmit power equal all day long.. We didn't boot for peak hours.. The station is licensed for a specific output and you stuck to it.. go over and you get the FCC on your back.. We had to monitor and log transmitter power, temp and so on every 2 hours.
Maybe the reception difference you noticed is due to atmospheric conditions.. It can effect reflected power.
Why is it people expect a cheep Inkjet printer to last for years and years? Yes I'll agree that a device should last a minimum of a year..
Companies used to offer decent warranty but the consumers keep demanding lower and lower prices..Box stores demanded bulk discounts.. So they cut where they can.. put in cheep parts and hack the warranty period down to save $$.
I won't buy into the the extended warranty game.. Why pay extra to for free repairs on a piece of junk.. What's your plan when the extended warranty runs out and it breaks again? Buy another one?
Invest in quality people! Yes it'll cost more today but you'll save in the long run..
I know it's a bunch of marketing drivel to scare the CTO into buying the security scare of the week tool.
Honestly they can go ahead and give me a layoff notice.. Hell last time around I was looking forward to it.. 26 weeks pay and the summer off.. Hell yeah.. why risk that to get a look at what the CIO's wife found on craigslist that week.. Most people are boing and the ones who do have something worth hiding are hopefully smart enough to use an outside email service.
There's no need to "hack" in to the system.. They will be calling in 3 weeks asking for help anyway. I hope they like my consulting rates $$$

It was worse than marked up to MSRP..
Sandisk Ultra II 4gig SD Card
MSRP is $28.99
CC had it marked to $49
It was $24 in that CC store before the "sale" started

If your TAM isn't helping ask for a new one.. Rattle his manager. It's funny how fast they move then their boss is riding them.
There are a few really good ones out there that can get you in contact with the developers when things go sideways in new and interesting ways.

I find it interesting that I can't get a really good analog signal for all stations at my house but the digital OTA works great for all 5.
