Actually, the quote you're thinking of is "Delays are temporary, mediocrity is forever," and it was said by Victor Ireland, CEO of Working Designs. The line is even said by one of the characters in Lunar, one of the games that WD localized. The only place I've seen the mangled version of the quote attributed to Shigeru Miyamoto is here on Slashdot.

The PSP is marginally more powerful than the DS, and in exchange you get worse battery life, worse construction quality, a smaller game library, and it doesn't have a touch screen. DVForge also seems to have a pretty bad reputation. DVForge really is blatantly infringing on DLO's patent.

Now, the more important question is -- is this patent wrong? Is this kind of idea trivial? Well, I don't know. I have an iPod, but I hadn't seen a product like this before or even thought about looking for one. It is a very cool product, though, so I just ordered one from DLO.

    Again, thanks!

Refuse to boot? That I've never seen.

It's a problem that occurs with some motherboards with VIA chipsets. The last ones I saw with the problem were back during the Pentium 3 / Athlon era, so newer ones may be better, but then again, I've also been sticking to non-VIA chipsets since then. SBLive! cards had to be placed in specific slots on the motherboard and had an IRQ reserved particularly for them (they don't like IRQ sharing) or they frequently just wouldn't boot.

Crash? On windows, yes. I've never seen an Emu10k card crash on Linux; the ALSA drivers are pretty frigging good.

The Linux drivers are better than the available Windows drivers, but I don't mean just having the card crash, I mean bringing the entire system down. I've seen inexplicable kernel panics that occured regularly for no apparent reason at all, but they never happened again after the SBLive! card was removed.

Exactly what are you trying to say? As far as I can tell, the only point of your post is FUD.

Apple used to claim that a Pentium was like a snail. They can't do that anymore.

No, they claimed that more MHz == faster is a myth. It's still true. A 2.5 GHz G5 is faster than a 3 GHz P4. What they're saying now is that IBM's development has stagnated, and in the near future, the P4 will be a more cost-effective processor than the G5.

Apple still claims that OS-X never crashes. Mac users will say the same thing in public. However the Big Secret is that on Mac-centric bulletin boards (like this, for instance) you see that there are many "kernel panics" (the equivalent of a Windows BSOD).

So, you've discovered that kernel panics exist. What was your point? They happen in Linux and BSD, too, and it's the same thing as Windows' BSOD -- no matter what OS you're using, it is possible for something to occur that would make it impossible for it to continue processing. Apple doesn't claim that OS X never crashes, they claim that it's stable -- and it is. I've had a PowerBook running OS X for about three years now, and in that time I've seen two kernel panics, both a result of me trying to load a device driver that was compiled for a different version of the OS. That's entirely anecdotal, of course, but you'll find that the most people who've used OS X have similar anecdotes.

Did you have a point, or were you just trying (and failing) to point out the obvious?
