  4. Quake 1??? on IGN's Top 100 Games · · Score: 1

Not having Quake 1 on the list is a travesty. It is one of the most groundbreaking PC games of all time.

Quake was one of the first games that was able to successfully take advantage of OpenGL. I know I wasn't the only one who ran out and picked up a Voodoo 1 card when I saw what it looked like.

Don't forget Quakeworld. Quakeworld was a groundbreaking addon that allowed you to actually play the game over dial up, something almost unheard of at the time.

Don't forget all of the mods. Quake was one of the first games out there that had a successful modding community. Sure there were a few Doom mods, but nothing like Quake 1 had. Does anyone remember Team Fortress or CTF?

If Quake 1 was truly a groundbreaking game that should not be so easily overlooked.

Of course they do. I remember playing a ton of educational games at school back on the Apple 2e. The ones that seemed effective to me were the math and learn how to read/type ones.

The one I remember the clearest was called Kids on Keys. The game would drop letters from the sky and you would have to hit the corresponding key on the keyboard before it hit the ground. When you are in the first grade you are having too much fun playing it to realize you are actually learning.

  13. Redundant gameplay is why on Guild Wars Final Beta This Friday · · Score: 2, Interesting

I wouldn't say it is the "nerdy" gameplay that turns me off of these type of games. The redundancy of the gameplay is where I get bored. You can only kill so many whomp rats or orcs before you are bored to tears trying to get that last bit of experience to level up. What happens when you level up? The whole process repeats itself.

I suspect they will. It's called the MPAA v Betamax decision; it states you have a legal right to make recordings for the purpose of 'time shifting'. The problem isn't the fact you can record something from XM. The problem is that TimeTrax seperates the songs itself and applies the proper id tages on them. You can go to bed and wake up the next morning with several hundred mp3s on your machine all labeled correctly and ready for distribution.

From reading that article I have come to the same conclusion. This really does not surprise me though. After constantly hearing about how each new game was going to completely revolutionize the MMORPG genre, I am finding it almost impossible to believe the hype. I think Star Wars is what did it for me. Tales of non static spawns, dynamic content and a non level based system sounded like a dream come true. When everything was said and done though, it was basically just the same ol MMORPG.

A few months after SWG came out, I kept hearing whispers of how WOW was going to completely change everything everyone thought about how a MMORPG operates. After reading this article, I can see that the hype machine was/is in full effect again.

Yeah, I can see how making a product and selling it for a price that you do not agree with is considered a crime. That makes absolutely no sense at all whatsoever. If it IS a crime, than every business in the country is subject to a criminal investigation and our economy will fall apart.

You cannot say capitalism is a crime. That is the most ridiculous thing I have heard all week.
