if you have no money off the books, life becomes very un-interesting for small or one man companies, having no cash at all is not a good idea from streetview up imo, its the cash that gets spent first since you cant buy big stuff with it like cars or houses, it just gets pumped back into the economy right away, to buy clothes, go out, dinner, small stuff that makes life more appreciable. I'm not an economist ofcourse, and the fate of large multinational companies is something i have a hard time caring about.
ofcourse, this is not america, but i dont see why it would be different in bigger countries. Mind you, i'm only talking about very small businesses and employees, not about major fraud by something googlesized so maybe we should just deny the use of cash to googlesized behemoths? Nope cos the kind of fraud they commit doesn't need hard currency really... what do i know:p
round here, you just have to pay an arm and a leg to be capless but they still have some small print 'fair use' policy that lets them disconnect you if you use double the average of every user with the same account of yours, it stinks, its way too expensive, but its all we have, so please ask your president to come free us from our two Isp's, its not like you're getting a lot of results in afghanistan, is it ?
for all you sixties psychologists : object recognition is vital to survival, mathematics is not, i think some guy named Darwin called it evolution (the reason why object recognition gets hardwired into the brain and mathematics is not)
What if you were to train a child from infancy to do just this 'simple' task of calculating? Would it get the Vulcan death grip as a bonus? I guess we won't find out soon, experimenting on baby homo sapiens will pretty much be illegal until the next step in evolution becomes dominant (according to the mayans that should be less than two years now;)
what did you say, sir ? Yes, im pretty sure that was the reaction of neanderthal just before he got owned by your kind...
how do you become an ex-hacker ? get a divorce maybe? isn't it something you are , not something you do ?
I think hackers belong to the spooky side of the universe since they don't exist as something that's created but rather as something mindboggling that is there, wether you like it or not
Yup i agree, kill all lawyers except the one that helped me, maybe lawyers should be forbidden to file a complaint unless it's about something personal for starters or something along those lines. I see a lot of people pointing out the obvious when it comes to piracy, i also see nothing really changed, lawsuits are filed, copies keep being made, the dumbest lowgrade users keep getting caught, druglords in south america keep getting away with it and so the circle of life continues.
I have only one question left, when is someone finally gonna do something about the major companies that evade taxes and blame it on piracy, no lawyer ever seems to file a complaint against that, but still, that IS how they finally got Al Capone, right ?
the general opinion among 'my gang of gamers' is indeed that wii is a console for parents with kids while the others are consoles for 'real' gamers with ps3 getting the advantage for being newer, having a bluray and some promise of better processing power that no one has ever seen yet. Me, i stick with my xbox 360 cos i cant see the diff between tekken 6 on 360 or ps3 and im sure wont see it with the next mortal kombat either. The lack of new consoles might be good for pc-gaming tho since hardware in all of them gets older while pc cards still get upgraded... might be, not sure, my crystal ball is not broken but it needs to be dusted and ' i don't have time' (tsss, dont people just love saying that)
who cares, it's the end of the world and the wrath of this and that and you're all gonna die , ofcourse you or they will, sheep subject to anything, ever seen a cow put up a fight ? nope, only the predators defend themselves, which one are you ?
i once bought a key for BF bc2 on ebay, EA store let me download and install the game and i played happy for about two months, then i got bored with it and left it alone for a while. Had to reinstall my pc but when i tried reinstallin battlefield from the EA store it wouldnt let me, my account still worked however. So i contacted cs and after a bit of waiting this employee told me their system 'marked' my key as being a fraud somehow. I ask him how come i could play for months before then? No answer he could give me.
So, i bought the game again, on dvd, from ebay, again:) for 20 euros. Ever since then i told myself never to buy digital downloads again. Just in case.
But, i also find that there's a lot of webshops out there that sell you the same dvd for less money than retail stores so i hardly ever walk into a store to buy a game actually. Same price diff for steam so i dont see why you would buy games in the steam shop either. for example : medal of honour cost 49 euros in the steam store, gamersland sold the game WITH tangible dvd for 10 euros lesss, postage to belgium included.
I think this is a clear cut case of classic major retailers needing to get their heads out of their asses and wipe the shit from their face so they can smell the coffee again.
Then again, most people still go crazy if they see a tv commercial telling them shop x or y is the cheapest in the whole world and just zombie away without questioning anything
where she shamelessly performs her intellectually degrading smut day by day, i dont even get to choose what videos i can see if i turn it on i'm stuck with what they want to feed me.
I think the laws regulating good taste should be adapted to prevent this kind of horrid abuse and manipulation.
Yay internet, yay free youtube yay lars ullrichs swimming pool, and if this kind of nonsense keeps up, yay the russian software mob !
same, the atari 2600 was the first gaming hardware i got to enjoy, albeit at a very young age. Bit of a shame they busted themselves on the ST series and the Jaguar cos imo Atari did a great job
it would be logical to have a $49,99 version of windows for gamers that leaves out all the crap you never use and works x-box style + browser.
But there is no l of logic in microsoft as far as i can see
cocaine is a very DANGEROUS anti-depressant, it gets you up for a very short time but you get this rebound that makes you very, very depressed afterwards, in crack-form this is i dunno 10 or 20 times stronger and the flash you get lasts no longer than 10-15 minutes.
Part of the reason why it's so addictive. The low you get after the high makes things seem even worse than they were before.
anyone wanting to experience cocaine should do this at a time when they are NOT depressed. That goes for any drug really
maybe like : it's a precedent, any country that doesn't object it (because it's only internet access and no sweat shops or flood)might in fact agree and do the same later on ?
i don't know. IF at all possible the elevator might make it pretty cheap if combined with a huge orbital docking station where ships can actually be built. Eliminating the cost of liftoff and escaping the biggest part of the gravity well of earth might make a significant difference.
But, since we still have to go and impose our morals all over the world i'm afraid by the time we get out of the elevator we'll be welcomed by a nice young lady going 'ni hao':)
on the telenet website please, if you don't speak dutch, i'll be happy to translate it for you. To me it just sounds like a nifty excuse about why they can't provide what they sell to more than half of their customers. They have silly data caps on most packs and their idea of unlimited downloading is a bit weird imo. If you download more than two times the average of what all customers with the same pack as you (that would be turbo- or fibernet) download then they got the right to shut or slow you down for the rest of the month. So whoever the guy is that succeeds in downloading almost 3TB with a connection that hardly ever gets above 512kbps. That's overhere, but their helpdesk keeps telling me its because im further away, the whole country is only 300 km wide ffs !
Nonetheless, even if they admit i never get the speed they promise 'cos i'm further away' (i always thought that was an adsl-company excuse) they never send me a bill that says 'hey, cos you never get what we sell, we deducted some of that ridiculous price we ask)
Americans always tell me : get another ISP , well, we only have two really and the other is even worse, at least most telenet employees tend to be friendly, yet some of them should do better selling perfume and nail polish i think;
Scandinavians think it's funny:) maybe cos they have a pirate party that works.
I already did on Ars but i want to thank the guy again, keep it up man, according to the fine print, you are the one who keeps the cap on their 'unlimited' pack up high for the rest of us.
my first thought was, what would happen if the moon disappeared completely? i suppose that would have a severe impact on us, no? As long as it's shrinking i suppose it doesn't really lose mass. So the gravitational effect should stay the same, but, does size matter on this cosmic scale? Anyone any idea?
i'm sorry for your loss but i can't have you censoring my world because of your grief, take it up with the people responsible if you really want to fight it, but keep your hands off my spare time and my internet, PLEASE
There's always a few people to take issue with everything, anything that's done can possibly offend anyone somewhere. Not playing Taliban will not bring dead soldiers back, and censoring the issue out of anyting will SURE as hell not make the taliban go away.
Not talking about muslim fundamentalists will not grow back the severed head of cartoonists either. Avoiding issues and censorship helps NObody.

isnt that how google made money in the first place? something called advertising i believe ?
in most cases, democracy ends up being defended by the mob who later turns into the new government ?

sounds like a nice doughnut weapon to cull the expanding copper population

that was my first idea as well, and i'm guessing not only USgov does that. It IS possible ofcourse, no man is above comitting crime.
