Does anyone really think that bittorrent is "just what movie studios and record labels need to market and distribute their own content efficiently on the Web."? Does bandwidth really cost that much? Does a distributed network help that much if your clients can only download between 50-500kilobytes/sec?
I use bittorrent to download pretty well seeded dvd's. It can take days and days.
I'm sure it doesn't matter. Domestic investment is VERY important to the americans, just look at the softwood lumber dispute, or maybe even this beef thing.
They'll spend whatever it takes, as they always have, to show up the competition. That's how it started, and innovation always comes from competition and need.
Let's also say noone has ever seen a shovel before, and i think it's a dandy idea! Quickly after i finish shoveling snow from my driveway and get to work secretly making my own shovel.
Then i say to my brother, "hey you need a shovel man" and i tell him how to make one, or i make it for him.
A tool is a tool. Processors, software, hammers and blenders and lightbulbs and all that. If we let ourselves be hindered by property in the intellectual realm (information should be free!) we will see one person with shovels, selling them for an outrageous price, when we could all benefit from the swift proliferation of useful technology!
I'm not saying someone can't start selling the shovels they make. As a matter of fact i think people should be able to copy and sell something someone else made, especially if they can make it better and cheaper. I'm saying we should embrace this chance to rid ourselves of the sence of property before it's far too late, and we become captive in our greed.
Holy crap people, has anyone ever been a dishwasher before? That's a crappy job if i've ever had one.
Minimum wage, and slave work. The last 2 dishwashing jobs i've had i lost half my fingerprints and went nearly crazy from being isolated 8 hours a day by the roar of the machine.
Once i had to clean out a fridge that had been on and broken for at least a week. 3 huge turkeys had expanded and escaped from their packaging, leaking blood and oily skin all over. And then there was the fish. I vomited. The mask helped some but sometimes it would come around the seal on my face and the stench would come through.
And you have to do whatever the surly chef tells you to.
albeit it would suck if the army needed them tho. let's say they buy, 750,000, 3 for each soldier in iraq (that's a number i got off google somewhere...)
that adds up to $67,500,000. On bandaids. I'm no chitosan molecule expert or anything, but that seems steep to me.
So we can have 1gb of storage on another computer? What a great place to store stuff you don't want to lose. Not that i don't think google will be banning people quite swifly for using this...
but it's perfectly useable. wanna give me 1gb of your harddrive space? i promise i'll find a use.
I can't imagine what the number of drugs developed in canada has to do with how we take care of our sick... we didn't make penecilin, but we sure as hell use it!
really stop and think about what you're saying.
efficency? probably not. but does that matter when it gets down to helping someone stay alive? no.

Free Software can be copied and modified and sold if you want, distributed in any way you want because it's just that. Free.
GPL software is protected and can't be modified then sold for money without offering it for free (or for a small price to cover media costs) and must be shipped with source. I think.
It's licenses are incompatable, not the software itself. Important distinction here.
Heh. I've watched the whole thing, and i assure you refrences to things you need to look up is for older nerdy geeks who know nothing of other media made for them.
The only reason children shouldn't watch evangelion is because of the sexy characters. Bugs bunny makes ALL KIND of puns and jokes that children don't understand, he takes part in opera's and even donald duck deals with heartbreak and sorrow.
Sexy characters attract young boys, as we all can attain erection and feel sexual touches from birth. Breasts are burned into our brain from instinct and all those pretty boobs covered in leather flight suits is usually enough for any shut-in geek to look up "hentai" on google for the next 45 minutes.
Why is it that people think google's position on something is how it shows up in their search results. They're usually forces or paid to make changes, and everything else is generated and sorted by computer.
Which is their big downfall, because when i type "cumshot" (or whatever) into google i get alot of garbage sites that arn't actually websites at all. they redirect you somewhere else, to some big advertising trap where 8 windows open immediately. Who links to these places but themselves?
I would have to agree, i've done a couple java programming courses and found it very easy and *fun* to program with, basically because of it's use of objects for just about everything. Objects make the whole process of coding faster.
C# Has alot of objects to use and as far as i can tell doesn't have alot of the startup overhead that java has. C# is meant to be platform independent, but it clearly is not.
So if i was writing something for windows. I'd probably use C++. If i was writing something for linux, i'd use C++ (or c). If i wanted it to run seamlessly between both, i'd use Java.
So what's the point of C# if we have VB? Not much, i still use it a little, just for the fun of it but not because i'm attempting to make anything serious or functional. Or portable!
I think the fact that the variable is there at all is the joke.
Are you right? Maybe i'll be buddist today. PRAISE JESUS! Or change my name to Mohammad. Silly people. Not a clever joke (it's been done) but still a joke. Easy enough to get.
Clearly you went into #linux and asked a question! That's your first problem. You're in the wrong channel completely!
#LinuxHelp is clearly for people who need help using linux. And just because you need help doesn't mean anyone HAS to give you an answer.
I used to hang out there alot, and even then you run into problems. People who don't get an answer right away or don't get a complete one get very upset. Sometimes someone tries to help you but they don't know how and they get shafted by the person who's upset.
Upset in #Linuxhelp? Lurk for 30mins and ask again. But don't sit at your machine and get steamed up, get up and make a sandwich, smoke a doobie, whatever, because windows has probably made you quite used to having it work right away. Any arguing you do will build a huge wall and people will go out of their way to tell you to go away.
RTFM. First. Always. The people who regular a help channel will remember you if you ask alot of questions, and if they're good questions they're likely to help you again.
If you're reeeeally new at linux, and need someone on the phone with you all the time i suggest you talk to redhat or one of those companies that make their money off tech support. You WILL get an answer and not an answer you will have to work on to complete.
Even better, because i know that reponse can be inflaming, get an offline book so you can follow it step by step. Anything that starts out telling you how to install your OS in GREAT DETAIL is good, because not only does going thought every step of the slackware installation teach you alot of things you might not known about computers before (partition? MBR? WTF?!) you will pick up on and things will be easier on you not just for linux, but for everything else you do with computers.
So it is true, you get what you pay for. You can also get stuff for free, but don't expect service with a smile if you don't smile back!!! And arguing doesn't only hurt you (people won't talk to you) but you won't be able to participate with the other kids who play nice. Open source counts on you!
Also, most newer network card have the option right in the network card's settings. You can choose "network address" and fill in a field. In window that is!
Well to pirate music over the telephone, clearly all you have to do is use a dialup modem:)
Which isn't so hard. You can download a song in about a half an hour, and all you need is a modem, and isp and a p2p network.
So what's next? YOU AND YOUR MODEM. Aussie's put up with WAY too much opression and crimes against them from their government. Let's hope australia does something about themselves and lays the groundwork for the more malevolent U.S.A
Now i can't see what you mean at all. How does DRM muck up the mess at all? Expensive technology like what?
Let's say, a stereo!!! Ok. Works like this. Get a ghetto blaster majig with a tapedeck and RCA line in ports. Then connect your computer and the stereo with a headphone to RCA cable. Record to your hearts content.
Ok and let's take that one step further. Instead of a stereo, or even another computer, get another soundcard and plug one card into the other and record your.mp3 or.ogg
Copying music will always be easy. And cheap. If you can hear it, you can very easily record it.
Here's me crossing my fingers that i don't get sued for circumventing their copy protection under the DMCA. This is even more complicated than holding the shift key:)
IT DOESN'T EXIST. Thank you for your money. Look in your mailbox in 3 days, really!
I can just see it now. And he runs to the bank with cash bursting from his pockets laughing gleefully. He's paying himself and his siblings to "construct" this thing, and it will never appear. they'll run out of money paying their employees and poof. rich.
Your theory only supports the americas and other places heavily influenced by american media.
What about africa? I'm sure people abroad have their own culture and what TEEN BEAT has to say about the filty mcnasty has little effect i'm sure on the starving in ethiopia.
Abstenence is the CURRENT method of prevention. Promisuity was not the cause. Just because we started showing a little skin doesn't cause these hidden viruses to jump out at us.
If you've been doing any other reading besides the ethical and religous kind you would be able to deduce that perhaps this virus spread because people are having UNSAFE sex. Use a condom.
Just because you're not getting laid doesn't mean the rest of us should have to tuck it between our legs.
I know guys, being uncircumsized condoms are a real hassle. The motion causes your foreskin to move up, making the "extra thin" feature of your chosen rubber pretty much useless. But it's better than getting the clp (ouch it burns to pee!!!) or HIV.

Um what? Intel has heaps and heaps of cash. Why are they trying to save on labour costs?
And uh, who are we going to do with all these chips produced in china that we won't be allowed to sell anywhere except china?
Besides they'd probably get upset anyway because the company is based in the US and has to abide by their laws.

:) Read a book.
Are you saying that every time i download something off kazaa i get a 1:1 ratio of uploads and downloads?
I'd hate to tell you, but when you're uploading at 2.5kbs, they are DOWNLOADING at 2.5kbs, and their upload speed remains the same.
"Then why can't i download and upload at 4.5kbs on my modem then, smart guy?"
Because the downstream takes up all the bandwidth. Dedicated upload and download bandwidth on a modem is a silly idea
