Thanks. The explanation with the "Geck" really worked, since I am german in fact. My grandparents used to call me a "Geck" when I was dressing up for a party or trying to impress the girls with silly stuff back in highschool.;-)
Or screw the whole solarpanel and go for windenergy in the fist place?.
I mean there is much more wind than sun on Mars. Everyone knows this, but still, they rely on sun wich is also risky because of the wind...hrrmm...Or am I wrong here?
Ok, so did they call him back on duty to record "the first transport is away?". Or where would they have that phrase from? I mean IF they called him back in I wonder why not the next guy could have said that sentence...weird!
Ok, this is embarassing me beeing here for so long and stuff, but wth., I'm german.
Could someone please explain how to pronounce the word "geek"? Is it more like "greek" or rather like "cheap"? Thanks for clearing this up once and for all...;-)
I know youre only joking but Im curious about US law on this issue. In Germany this would a definete case of inside trading and its considered a crime.
Yup, you're right. I was really interested on the slashdot crowds opionion on the subject but all I got was an endless thread of political debate. I already HAVE an opinion on that, thank you, and I don't intend to start a flamewar about the Iraqwar when there is a really interesting topic up for once a day.
Don't get me wrong, Iraq and all this stuff needs to be talked about but not on a story about Fusion Reactors.
Well, he makes some valid points, such as his rant about the xinetd. But all of those dont concern me since Im a Slackware user. Maybe he should take a look at this distribution, it is as much BSD as Linux gets. I like BSD a lot, but still, I must say that running Slack gives me the best of both worlds as far as I learned.
Talking about RedHat/Fedora or SuSE I can nothing but agree with this page. Oh, boy. Linux is turning into a lame crowd as its Desktop-userbase grows. Just look at these Luser pics...eeewww..;-)
Do yourself a favour and spend 37US$ on Neverwinternights Gold. It runs smoothly on the named hardware, since you really seem to underestimate your boxes.
It is a killer in multiplayermode and together with the "shadows of undrentide" extension already in the box you are well set for weeks of dungeonaction.
Trust me, this game is worth every buck, and really sucks you inside the story. If youre done after newyearseve you can still reuse your key on the internet servers and keep playing. That game is definetly worth its money...
Vegastrike....mhm...thats funny! It was the game we played last xmas. We were just two people in office and we played it three days (24th/, 27th/28th Dec.) nonstop. I dont think its such a great game but it kept us busy for the time.
You could have done the following: killall -HUP gnome-panel
If it woulnd't have been for the panel you could have used a graphical taskmanager such as Gnomes System Manager zu restart the process. This was a bad example since it is a situation that is as hard or as easy to fix than with other OSes, ie Windows. Just because you don't know how to do it with linux doesn't necessary mean it's harder to handle. Linux takes a different apporach in many areas, just because it isn't (well, not only) copying Windows or OS X it still can be fairly easy to use.
Learning english is fun.;-) Since I am german I didn't recognize this as a common phrase until the named article. It's a true shame that it translates so badly into german it ruins the fun of it:
"Hey, die 80iger haben angerufen, sie wollen ihre Features zuruck!" oder "Hey, das Smithsonian hat angerufen, sie wollen Ihr Studio 54 Ausstellungsstuck zuruck." just sounds kinda lame...
Ok, not beeing picky here but I guess he also stole the phrase from this article.
Quote from the article: "Upcoming features? PAM. files larger than 2 gigs. NFS over TCP. The 80's called, they want their features back. NTPv4 was a listed big feature on a slide of 10 to 15 upcoming enhancements. How does an NTP enhancement get mentioned as a 'big' feature? Wow."
Actually I remember this because that quote IS in fact quite funny.
I'm not a developer, but I personally believe it's because the KDE folks reinvented the whell with khtml. Gnome still waits for the GRE to mature. Am I wrong here?
Dumping Linux because of SCO? rofl

We hardly kne....errr...Boy, did we know you! Farewell!
Sorry, but this is not about a 3D Screen. Its about a 3D accelerated Desktop environment. In the same sense as Wolfenstein 3D.
Read the article for a good introduction on the subject.

"They're so bad I quit checking the forecasts years ago."
Yup, just as with Computers, last time I checked they were damn slow so I quit using them years ago.
Weather on a Slashdot head - Slow Day on the Internet
Yeah that's great. Isn't it? ;-P
I might update my GeForce2 when Doom III arrives...or let's rather wait for Duke Nukem Forver...
You are so very right it hurts. ;-/

Mind you, the gdesklets are nice eycandy but a performance hog and tend to be unstable.
have fun.
I guess its a gdesklets plugin. Not sure though.
