Thanks. The explanation with the "Geck" really worked, since I am german in fact. My grandparents used to call me a "Geck" when I was dressing up for a party or trying to impress the girls with silly stuff back in highschool. ;-)

I already HAVE an opinion on that, thank you, and I don't intend to start a flamewar about the Iraqwar when there is a really interesting topic up for once a day.

Don't get me wrong, Iraq and all this stuff needs to be talked about but not on a story about Fusion Reactors.

Well, he makes some valid points, such as his rant about the xinetd. But all of those dont concern me since Im a Slackware user. Maybe he should take a look at this distribution, it is as much BSD as Linux gets. I like BSD a lot, but still, I must say that running Slack gives me the best of both worlds as far as I learned.

Talking about RedHat/Fedora or SuSE I can nothing but agree with this page. Oh, boy. Linux is turning into a lame crowd as its Desktop-userbase grows. Just look at these Luser pics...eeewww..;-)

Do yourself a favour and spend 37US$ on Neverwinternights Gold. It runs smoothly on the named hardware, since you really seem to underestimate your boxes.

It is a killer in multiplayermode and together with the "shadows of undrentide" extension already in the box you are well set for weeks of dungeonaction.

Trust me, this game is worth every buck, and really sucks you inside the story. If youre done after newyearseve you can still reuse your key on the internet servers and keep playing. That game is definetly worth its money...

Give it a try or put it on your Xmas-wishlist ;-),

    Still, a great Xmas Game...

You could have done the following:
    killall -HUP gnome-panel

If it woulnd't have been for the panel you could have used a graphical taskmanager such as Gnomes System Manager zu restart the process. This was a bad example since it is a situation that is as hard or as easy to fix than with other OSes, ie Windows. Just because you don't know how to do it with linux doesn't necessary mean it's harder to handle. Linux takes a different apporach in many areas, just because it isn't (well, not only) copying Windows or OS X it still can be fairly easy to use.

Since I am german I didn't recognize this as a common phrase until the named article. It's a true shame that it translates so badly into german it ruins the fun of it:

"Hey, die 80iger haben angerufen, sie wollen ihre Features zuruck!" oder "Hey, das Smithsonian hat angerufen, sie wollen Ihr Studio 54 Ausstellungsstuck zuruck." just sounds kinda lame...

    Quote from the article:
"Upcoming features? PAM. files larger than 2 gigs. NFS over TCP. The 80's called, they want their features back. NTPv4 was a listed big feature on a slide of 10 to 15 upcoming enhancements. How does an NTP enhancement get mentioned as a 'big' feature? Wow."
