Looks to me that sony is getting finally that there lies a strength in being open, at least a bit, not to scare the techies away. I really like Sony and recently they are behaving like a big company should. They are innovative, and they are trendsetters in openening their products to the techcommunity. I wonder whats the masterplan (if there is one) behind that strategy...
There is NO money spent on SETI whatsoever by the Government at the time. They used to but they stopped the funding back in the 80s when they were planning to launch the so-called "Star-Wars" Project. That was one major reason to start SETI@home in the first place. And what i spend my personal CPU-cycles and money for is my business. Of course i respect your point that there are terrible problems on earth that need solving but in fact there are many other distributed projects that take care of it. Blaming Seti for the ignorance on earth is not exactly what solves the problem.
i read it on CHIP (!) already. And this is like CNet, yesterdays News today in german. But i gotta admit this works and i use it.
Kazaa really sucked and when im running Win2k (yes, its a dualboot machine) i keep it open, much less performance greedy than the official Kazaa, what makes me believe in the spyware-free promise. I am writing redundant silly stuff?? Yeah, no wonder just got back from a weekendlong LAN, and had no sleep at all...
This sure wont make me trust this thing any further.
Btw, its not much more than a nice proove of concept. I dont see much use in this. Perl is a nice language but there are more elegant ways to do this. And since i love the blackbox windowmanager for its speed and slim design i sure wont blow it up by integrating a Perl/Tk Interface...i dont see the point...
errr...this depends on how your excel rounds (?? i hope thats the english word) the numbers. It has nothing to do with 0,9 period. But its always a good laugh when the controlling guys rely on it...harharhar!
hehe, i took the screen at work where i have to use windows. Since my DSL-Provider jumped the gun and i cant get online. So I cant use my Linuxboxes in the Web...
i know its a damn shame but, hey, at least it renders the ads right...lol, after all its what its all about...
when it comes to exwindows users. I had a bad time copying and pasting stuff as well under Gnome as under KDE.
Now i use Fluxbox and i copy with the middle mouse button. Im not really in depth yet of Unix innerworking and im sure not into its standards but i really like that way. Actually i miss it at work where i have to use a Win2k machine. Its just nice.
Of course an additional keyboard shortcut is a desperate needed extra when you dont want to move your fingers away from the keyboard...
Ok, you made the point, who cares about look&feel integration when all the apps i need (i.e. licq, evolution, mozilla, konqueror, gftp, whatever,) seem to work under a third, non KDE, non GNOME desktop...wow, i guess im quite confused about that point. Well, dont be too hard on me, its late over here;-P
alright, why do many people use MS Stuff in the first place? Not because they love the explorer or the look, they use it because of word, outlook and excel.
There is only one platform aside Windows that those packages run on, it's Apple. I promise you the very minute this will ship MS will stop development for OS X versions of MS-Office...guess what OS the people will buy??
Dont be too hard on sony.
I hear the Runtime Environment for the first time. And i dont really believe it yet. Lets wait what we will see in the final product.
Maybe any Japanese experieces with that?
Btw: Theres gcc on the Distribution, so dont worry.
I dont'think that would do the trick.
I have to use Win2k at work and therefore often surf/. using IE. I think I'm not the only one.
On the other hand i don't see how useful Slashdot would be for the average Microsoftie. I think they better are better of with this
is this the same crowd that gets the willies anytime Windoze XP calls home? Picture this!
Sending in every single keystroke on your keyboard...lol...now thats what i call hypocrites.
What a shame. I got the linux client just the other day and i loved it. Only thing i was worried bout was that it wasn't open source.
I didn't consider this to be a problem but now when i hear about hardcoded nodes i am really upset. Why oh why?? It could be all up and running in a few mins. But nope! They had to close the code;-(
Any other useful Linux Fastrack Clients I don't know of?

Otherwise i can only warn anybody not to use such a lame tool for spying on personal data...

Thanks for the hint. Ill try...still i dont get it. Why didnt they just add a parm or a logfile where you can enter the Servers manually??
Bad Design. Maybe its cause it was just a quick and dirty hack...
all i needed to do was to leave it running on my router instead on my desktop machine. Doh! This is sad. It's got the nicest uptime...
Anyways, let's go for Kza-Uptime Records...see if we can sit out the windows client...
