Go to SourceForge and find an open source game in development (or even beta) that sounds cool to you - and contribute copious code... it will be free so everyone can enjoy it, and you can put it on your resume.
If they sell IPO stock at $8 - and they sold (let's say) 10 million shares... they get $80 million (more or less) capital.
Now - it goes up to $12. Some of their employees make a little coin from their options/shares... good for them...
Now - it drops to $2... Hmmm... anyone holding the stock get's a little burned... but the company still has their 80 Million (or what's left of it)... and they start giving out options based on the new $2 price...
Stocks are supposed to be viewed long term - not as get rich quick schemes that everyone seems to want them to be. If you think a company will do well in the long term - and their stock just took a pounding, buy some and hold on to it.
If they open source Java - wouldn't it be very easy at that point to incorporate it at a very low level into an operating system (especially an open source OS like Linux)? Thereby increasing performance and usability...
This is not a technical discussion... if you ever thought that you would have an in-depth technical discussion on/. - you were dreaming.
I stated an opinion - a valid on at that (but I am biased on this one) - that I prefer comparisons of raw CPU power (in whatever areas you like to look at) vs. cost...
Now if you aren't a supporter of free expression... that's a different matter.

Actually, I've done some changes to the code - so it is a little quicker now.
