Well now that my brain caught has up with my knee-jerk comment, fog of war may not be quite accurate. More akin to exploring your map. But yes, Warcraft 1 definitely came to mind!

    Pretty nifty in any event.

Personally I _want_ a magazine that can sit on the table in my lounge, *cough* or on top of the toilet cistern. I do wonder how many subscribers they're going to lose because of this. Im sure they did a survey and decided the benefit was worth it.

    Heh, LinuxJournal deathclock anyone?

Actually the thought behind his comment is _selfless_ while the act could be seen as selfish. He was concerned about the loved ones of climbers who have perished. Not being concerned about dying on the side of the mountain could be construed as being selfish. Hell, climbing Everest is selfish. Whats the problem with a bit of selfishness though!

I find that statement a little left of center. The worst hit will be the tourists? Hell no. The worst hit will be the hundreds of thousands of poor people whose livelihoods have been destroyed/changed forever. Not mention the fact that 1/3 of the dead are children.

Yes many tourists have lost their lives, but many of those who have not will be able to get back on the plane and go home to their easy lives back in suburbia. The citizens in the likes of Sri Lanka, Thailand etc have no way of escaping this nightmare.

*shrug* Maybe Im just being overly sensitive.

Gone are the days of needless parenting, where watching your child's every move consumed most of your day. For a limited introductory price of $399.99 we will introduce you to a world of reasonability-free parenting, where a touch of the button will allow little Johnny's whereabouts to be transmitted to every paedophile in the area.

Does anyone know what kind of security is in place to prevent tapping of such information? The last thing I would want is some freak 'sniffing' the location of my children. It makes me think of a predator following the scent of it's prey.

  18. Lose weight now! Ask me how! on Scientific Battlegrounds in Diets · · Score: 1

    Offtopic? Debateable :-)

Since the common trend of this thread seems to be the posting of one's own experiences at weight-loss/gain I will relate my own experience in this field. I used to be a swimmer in my early teens, stopped and blew up like a balloon (98kg's). I wasn't as overweight as some people, but it was enough to do the psychological and physical damage (mostly skin). I experimented with allot of these weight-loss plans until one day I got it into my thick skull that I was going to starve myself.

That worked, for a while. I lived on a basic diet of sugar free coke and a meal in the evenings. Coupled with my new gym membership I dropped down to 72kg (2.7% body fat). For someone who is 187cm and does actually have a large frame, I looked like a skeleton.

I modified my diet accordingly and juggled the time I spent at gym, I now eat 4 meals a day (low fat) and instead of a 2-hour gym sessions I now average 75 minutes (3xweek). I've increased in lean body weight and kept the fat down to a minimum, I now weigh 80kg. It's a way of life for me. I don't think twice about going to gym, when I miss a session I make it up later in the week.

Happy ending? I think not. There is a popular misconception that losing weight will get you the body that you desire. All those slim models they show you in those adverts were NEVER overweight. If your only motivation is to get a godlike body you are going to be sorely disappointed. The results? Loose skin. Stretch marks. If you had issues about your body beforehand, just wait until you see the skin hanging around your gut when you do push-ups :-) For me its not much of a problem, I don't walk around naked. Just don't go in blind and buy everything these sales people feed you, be aware of what you're doing and the possible results.

South Africa is controlled by a democratically elected government comprising a spectrum of different races/religions/whatever. I strongly urge people living outside our borders from commenting on our sociopolitical state until they fully understand the dynamics.

Our country is one of the most beautiful in the world and the massively diverse cultures only add to its splendor. The constant whining has grown tiresome. People always focus on the bad, never the good.

    ja well no fine.
