What good would come from appearing there. If you speak on behalf of the game industry then you are "against the children" if you speak out against game violence you are "against the gamers" sounds like a no-win situation to me. If I was in that position I'd likely choose to stay home as well.
With the orignal xbox people were up in arms about Microsoft demanding control and and blamed them for EA and others not wanting to play that way. Now Microsoft has loosened up and given the publishers more control and people are bitching that Microsoft needs to demand control. So which is it? Complain with your wallet, if you dont agree with the pricing structure, then dont buy it.

Yea but no one is saying that about Dick Clark anymore either...youth can change in a day.
I love his music but I would guess that he will eventually end up like Ray Stevens. Not that being Ray Stevens is a bad thing, he was popular for over 30 years and still has a tune that rates a bit of radio play once in a while. Other than that he lives comfortably and still does occasional shows. While Weird Al is definately the King of Parody, Stevens will always be IMHO the King of Novelty songs. I just hope Weird Al doesnt go the Brason route like Ray did.
Until I see a good video game based movie I would prefer they just leave Halo alone. The closest I have seen to a good video game movie was the original Mortal Combat and it wasnt exactly oscar material.
Until Sony offers up a game matching service that doesnt require a 3rd party and until there is some kind of central control of servers and maintenance Microsoft has no worries. The ps3 is at least making strides towards online services but without the rankings and game matching it still has a long way to go. Plus free on the ps3 means free as far as sony is concerned but developers are also free to do it however they want including pay to play since they have to provide and maintain their own infrastructure.
Nintendo looks to be doing a bit more but if it uses the inane friends codes that the DS uses it will be no big threat either.
Ah sorry, missed the line about the first episode being available on the developers site later. I just hope they package the whole thing together when its done.
I would love to play this next to Grim Fandango, Sam & Max was the best thing to come out of Lucas Games. I see no point in gametap though, $20 a month to maybe spend an hour getting nostalgic is not worth it IMHO. I kept all my old consoles and most of my games anyway so if I'm really feeling old school I plug one of them in. Anyone know if they plan on releasing an actual purchasable version once the episodes are all available?
So now not only do I pay full price (actually overprice since its a "premium game") and subject myself to advertising on my dime but now I have to allow them to monitor my online activities to be able to play as well? No thanks, I was going to buy this one ASAP but I dont want to play it that badly. How freakin greedy and evil can a game company get? It was bad enough when EA was snuffing out small developers to rape and pillage their work while treating their employees like sweatshop workers, but now the target for their tactics are their customers...when is enough enough?
Thats a great suggestion and is what I normally use at home but at work its a different story, if its not on the "approved" software list its not getting installed and getting software on the approved list especially if its "free" is more painful than just putting up with reader. There are plenty of solutions for the home user but when you have to stick with corporate rules its a different story.
Will this one start faster and not bug me every other time I run it to install some random new adobe crap I dont want or need? I the answer to either is yes concider me ready to convert.
Microsoft just took note of the popularity of.hack over there and decided to make their own, maybe it installs subliminal messages to try to entice the user to buy an xbox 360...better yet maybe it conveniently orders one for them.:)
I can't wait, im actually one of the ones who liked the idea of the controller for the need to move around. My kids love their gamecube and the idea of combining their "entertainment" with more exercise could only be a good thing. They dont spend too much time on their current console but with winter coming gaming becomes much more of a time waster. I am so glad Nintendo decided to include Wii sports as a pack-in, it looks to be a good title and a fun party game. Who cares what you look like, i cant play a good game without dodging and leaning anyway so this just means I will be doing it for a purpose.
I wonder if the bad feedback of the ps3 controller continues, if it will spark a redesign? Its not like it hasnt happened before, the original dual shock came out years after the lauch of the original playstation if I remember correctly. I wouldnt mind seeing the "boomerang" controller they showed off early in the design. Is the flimy feel a real problem or is it simply the loss of heft from the rumble motors?
Maybe spamhaus going dark for a bit will be enough to wake people up to the problem a bit more and maybe finally get people working on a solution. Im all for registered mail (whitelists) or even pay to send email within reason.
I have a client who complains daily about the amount of spam she recieves (4-6 a day) and takes probably half an hour a day forwarding each of them to me along with rants about them. I have tried to explain that if she would parlay that half hour into about 5 seconds of clicking the delete button she would save herself alot of grief. She just wants it all eradicated, and frankly I dont think its really possible with an open email address. She will download things like weatherbug and signup for webshots or any other "free" service without regard to what "free" means when it comes to the web. I have tried explaining that you simply cant stop all of it and that level of spam control I have been able to maintain in far superior than most, but she insists I just dont know what im doing. The latest problem has been with image spams regarding penny stocks. The source shows basically nothing filterable, anyone ever find a way to deal with those?
I am now evaluating a Deep Six spam box to see if that helps but with what little is trickling through now I dont see alot of improvements, im already catching hundreds a day without it.
The only thing that ever seems to come out of E3 anymore are false hopes and shattered dreams. Its a hype show and usually based more of impossibly lofty goals and expectations rather than the reality of game making. Perhaps without E3 we will have less vaporware and dissappearing features and more games that are not rushed out the door with huge flaws that require patching before the game is even played.\
The only negative to the disappearance of e3 is perhaps the exposure for the small developer, unable to afford the suites, catering, booze and escorts the big guys have, many small games are never going to get the opportunity to get traditional exposure that E3 offered. But then maybe thats part of the intention.
I dont understand why so many are still afraid of nuclear power. Even with nuclear waste thrown into the equation its still much cleaner than most other forms of energy production with the exception of hydro. Solar and Wind power just arent economically or physically feasable on scales as large as nuclear and it can be done in places were hydroelectric cant work. Safety is pretty rock solid now and you cant beat the reliability or cost.
I have a friend who is the poster child for Hippie Stoners, he is vegan and is against logging, offshore drilling, anti industry. If you so much as mention nuclear he goes into his own meltdown. You would think nuclear power would be the perfect answer to envioromentalists but more often then not I get the impression that many wont be happy until everyone is back living in caves and painting on rocks.
While the web browsing and friends lists looks nice, people seem to be missing one key point...the sony online services doesnt tie into games. You can chat all you want or buy things at the sony store but they service still isnt going to link you up to play some madden head to head. Gaming on the PS3 may be free (or may not in a few cases depending on the publisher) but its also piecemeal. Peer to peer or publisher control online play is still the only way to do it with Sony, there is no centralized matching service or more importantly infrastucture maintenance for gaming.
Thats the big advantage of XBox lives subscription services...if all you want is profiles and shopping, MS already has that for free its called Xbox Live Silver.
Everyone has an excuse, but usually we need to look internally to find out what causes relationships to split up. IT is convenient because of the time consuming tasks involved but when you look deeper usually its due to ignoring the spouse after work because your spending all your fee time on the computer as well. Gaming, Email, IRC and even posting on Slashdot can make a spouse feel a bit neglected. At one point early in my married life I was spending more time at the computer after work than at work...it lead to my wife having an affair. At first I just wanted to end it, but reluctantly agreed to counseling. I came to realize that the problems that led to the affair were more my fault than anything. My wife said she did it to get my attention, it worked. I changed my habits, my wife and I now have time that the computer is off limits and we have been happy for 15 years now. The bottom line is your job doesnt have to define your life, dont neglect those around you and keep the office and home life separate as much as possible.
Its going to be mostly academic, Larry has stated that it will start as a fork of Wikipedia and will be maintained by "Intellectuals". Frankly that is the primary reason why I dont see this amounting to much, maybe im alone but the "silly" articles on Wikipedia are part of the attraction to me. It's nice to have a place where I can lookup information about obscure pop culture and trivial bits, without that wikipedia would just be Encyclopedia Brittanica online and we already have that.
If folks are really worried that masses will flock back to MS and IE after a fork in versions then I would be inclined to believe that there are far deeper problems than just the fork. Unity in open source requires compromise if both sides of an issue cant meet on common ground you get a fork. I do agree with the comments in that in corporations you have a common goal and a common set of goals, in open source many times one developers whim deviates his focus to another direction, the end result is sometimes an improved program but more often ends up in a pissing contest with everyone threatening to take their toys and go home. Thats the biggest flaw and hurdle to open source taking over not the quality of the work.
not really, the problem I describe is the result of others selling email lists after changing TOS's or not posting what they plan to do with it. The majority are the result of dictionary spamming with the spam hidden in imbedded images, so far nothing I have found thats reasonable can block them without blocking good email as well. At home I'm using a deep six box and have found ways to block them by blocking anything with generator in the message body, but thats not practical for my clients some of whom do development work.
The new security hurdles will be great for the average home user anything that makes it more protected and stable helps. The big hurdle is going to be convincing businesses that do active in-house development that this is a good idea. Its going to be hard enough to convince companies that most of their desktop systems have to be completely upgraded and they really have to push the upgrade since runing in reduced functionality mode appears to offer no real benefit over XP. MS has really created an uphill battle for themeselves, none of my friends are planning to upgrade and the businesses I have talked to are just worried about loosing support for XP and 2003 to the point of asking about alternatives. Unless my group of friends and aquaintences are not typical of the majority the only upgrades to vista I see in their future are forced ones due to buying new desktops and laptops.
Im kinda old school myself..mainly due to being an old dude but some Am I Evil or Sanatarium would be awesome on that list. I wish someone would come out with a game like this that could use a mic or line in to allow a player to use the music of their choice, I would think that it would be possible with a spectrum analyzer or just a decent eq to "process" the song and create a corresponding rhythm to follow, DDR and Kongo Bongo would benefit from something like that too...but I guess then there would be no reason for sequels.:)
I was kind of shocked, I'm an old guy as far as gamers go and I still knew all but 3 bands (Sword, Avenged Sevenfold and Living End). Might have to check this one out. Is it just me or does Freebird seem a bit out of place with the Face-Melters? At first glance Dick Dale seems a bit out of place unless you are familiar with is work and his speed, but Freebird I just dont get, its not a particularly hard song to play on a real guitar and certainly doesnt have the difficulty of some of the others on the list.

And I hope for your sake that you read warning labels and instructions better than you do posts...since you evidently missed the second sentence
"They dont spend too much time on their current console but with winter coming gaming becomes much more of a time waster."
They get about 2-3 hours a week on their console, they are usually too busy with little league or riding their bikes, but thanks for your concern.
