How long before MS decide this is illegal and start suing?
Don't worry. We're typing up the cease and desist order right now...but please/. commenters, give us more information on your defense strategies for this product so we will have an ample chance of shooting down your hopes....
Here's an old quote from a source I do not remember...(damn I should claim it as mine!)
'There is something wrong when you report to work with a noose around your neck.'
Seriously, what it boils down to for me, is the policy should apply to everyone. I remember wearing suits at United Parcel Service. I crawled around in a warehouse under desks in a suit. What annoyed me was seeing all the guys in suits, and the women wearing sensable shoes, kakis, and a polo shirt. (ok, maybe there were other reasons for their attire:) )
Eventually UPS went business casual and I guess my point is if the policy is across the board and is a bad policy, then it'll get corrected. Just wait out this change...heck, I've out lasted 12 managers. I think I can wait out one more to get a new policy.
More amusing would be a Linux machine. Let him try to figure it out.:)
If the cable company is like my DSL support, then they wouldn't install it. Every time I have to call in problems with my DSL line, I have to lie and say I have a windows 98 pc. They usually then try to get me to do some basic networking troubleshooting. This can be hard to fake if you don't remember off the top of your head what the output is supposed to look like. If they catch me in the lie, I usually play the mad customer (which I usually am at this point) and demand they open a ticket for the issue.:)
My wife seems to be a staph carrier. It isn't strong. When she gets tested, she usually has 3 different strains in her system. If they give her drugs for it, then the next time they test her she has 3 different strains.
The last big flare up occured in 1998 when I was sent to Calgary during my first wedding anniversary (I felt real bad after this.) She had a major flare up of staph A and was recordered for Galveston county. I look at the MMWR at the CDC and think of her when I see the staph #s. Anyway, the doctors had said they had not seen so many different staph infections in one person since college and then only in a text book.
She's fine now and it's just as I said, they are all weak strains. I've never caught any from her, but she always has them.
I can remember sitting in the theater watching AotC and leaning over to whisper to my friend that this could have been a SciFi channel special.
I was annoyed I paid money to see it and glad my wife wouldn't see it until it was 2nd or worse in the box office for 2 weeks in a row. I think AotC was a perfect made for TV popcorn show....
Come on, the same people that pirate Photoshop also pirate $30 shareware products.
ahem, I can tell you why the $30 shareware was cracked. It sucked and nobody in their right mind would pay $30 for it!
Make photoshop or office XP $30 and I wouldn't have such a problem telling my users to go buy it. However under the current price scheme, my users are not interested in buying office or photoshop for home. They would rather get their company to pay....and that well is currently dry.
Indeed, is there any series of movies that *doesn't* have the same few plots repeated again and again?
I think you're right about series being predictable. I can't imagine PBS' Moll Flanders having a sequel. What other taboo could she break? What would it be called?
The problem I have with this sort of monitoring is it requires interpretations on the part of the reviewer. What should matter is whether I am creating a hostile work environment and whether I am doing my job. End of story. Mess up on either of those and you should be out the door.
These sorts of issues are very similar to consensual crimes where the government wants to monitor what you do between consenting adults.
How fast is voyager traveling? Can we launch something that is faster? We've got 4.2 light YEARS to get to Proxima Centauri. 12 light HOURS are not going to cut it....
of course there is a downside to evolutionary materialism, what was needed to achieve material success in the past is not guaranteed to achieve it in the future.
Now I wonder what happens if someone today can not achieve material succes, depression????
I got my wife a Honda CRV for an engagement ring and every other woman she tells that too thinks she got the better end of the deal.
For the wedding rings, I had a platinum band etched with a simple floral pattern (based on a symbol my wife loves.) I had it made outside the US which cut the price in half.
Personally, I believe that the cycle of life is the only thing that drives social and technological evolution. The greatest mistake we could make as a species would be to short-circuit this cycle for the sake of our own greedy, short-sighted interests.
Agreed, but it is going to happen. So what do we do to make it work? Ignoring cyrogenics, what are we going to do when we cure death and disease? Have a war with disposable lower class people? Government enfored birthcontrol?
There are nuts out there working to cure death, but the mass majority just want to cure 'aliment of the week.' Both are going to reach the summit, beat death. Only one of them is not looking ahead at the big picture. I do not want an easter island world. What can we do?
"local groups of linked enhanced individuals" as well as "a global collective intelligence."
The minute they show me that a bunch of chimps can solve a problem a 10 year old human could solve is the minute I'll believe these claims of a global collective
closely moniter what demographics are watching which shows with more accuracy.
Ah, to have a zip code that speaks Klingon...
Of course what is scary to me is if people suddenly do start picking their future location based on cable sort of demographics. I can image some religous nut, wanting to live in a zip code with other like minded show watching religous nuts. It's hard to have a democracy when you can't tolerate your neighbor's viewing habbits. If someone thinks that this data isn't going to be availible to the public, think again. All the government has to do is buy it like any other company.
Image the next census, 2 women one story house like to watch the man show. hmmmmm

No, see, the bizarro version of Clean Flicks would obviously be a company that splices frames from pornography into "family" films.
ok...no more watching Fight Club for you.

'Ho strikes back!'
'Return of the Ho!'
What about all the other tragic events from the past that was forgotten.
Feel free to mark your calendar for the other months besides September.
I'd like a holiday for all of those, please!
I'll even work those holidays...of course I need time and a half pay.....
Other sources include: ....
3) The United States Congress.
The added benefit about tapping congress for the gas is it would also be a muffler. After all, silence is golden.

Just wondering, how long can someone be banned?
If they were all banned in their 20s, what's to stop them from doing it again in their 40s?
I think I could be happy on a few million for 20yrs....
hmmm...what are you doing to plan for retirement? Studying math....
Agreed.
This should be considered a tax. Those bad at math pay and those too smart to breed will now have the chance to reproduce.
Shouldn't the EPA be involved? Something about the endanger math student.

Ever hear of a pawn shop? or ebay?
Just make sure that if there is a engraving that it's something you can live with....

Does anyone know of a website that gives a rough estimate of how good alternative energy solutions are for a particular location?
Like with the amount of rain/cloud cover Houston and Seattle get are solar panels even worth it?
Just how windy is my city?
