If its for encryption, it probably uses the same technology/techniques that the DOD uses and probably also has military secrets which shoudln't "fall into the wrong hands".
Spy novelists are salivating right now with such story line.
But: 1) It was difficult to install 2) They released a later patch which re-enabled the exploit 3) Their own admins didn't install the patch and Microsoft itself fell victim the exploit.
Which leads me to believe that while they can release patches for security - there is not enough ease an consistency to keep your systems "reliable". Many times a patch breaks functionality.
How do you get counter attack software and whose to say that software is safe?
What if the counterattack software has its own buffer overflow? Then we get a cat and mouse game of one machine simulating an attack and when the counter attack is made the attacker could send a response to force a buffer overflow making the counter attack... the attack itself.
This will really be an issue when the widower living on a fixed income only watching basic cable has to pay for such an upgrade. Pissing off that voting block is suicide.
Multi-process VM's will confuse the issue. The JVM is a virtual machine. As a developer - I should care only about being able to execute multiple "things" concurrently or in parallel. Whether this is via threads (OS or non-OS) or multi-process JVM's I as a developer should not care about. Once I care too much about this - I get locked into a harware/software scheme which may be harder to expand in the future. (Its the typical flexibility vs speed tradeoff)
I believe what we really need is for OS to allow for threads to segfault without taking the whole process down. If a thread crashes - a new signal is sent to the process to let the application know.
Once you allow threads to crash - you can actually have one giant JVM running that can dynamically classload/discard applications as needed. Start the JVM base service at boot time and start time for applications should be "quick".
If they end up competing with AOL/TW (or another broadband provider) - whose to say they don't fiddle with their broadband service to make MS online gaming "a hassle"?
It sounds like you are already doing some programming and it is work related. Keep doing that and enjoy it! Keep looking for programs/utilities to write for your help desk related career. You'll learn tons with respect to programming and get a better understanding of requirements gathering and how users (your follow workers) interpret new programs. The best part is - you'll have no pressure to succeed or fail or have trouble with deadlines. Enjoy that luxury now while getting some good experience.
But what if you are already doing this? Isn't it nice to have a third party verify that your security team is doing their job correctly? Even if your security team thinks it has done everything correctly, they could just be full of themselves. Remember - the absence of a security breach is not an indication that your network is secure.
It seems the article is saying USR is proposing a new standard 802.11g. It will be backwards compatible with 802.11b.
They have a chance at this being successfull IF other companies use the same TI (Texas Instruments) chipset that USR is using. Otherwise - the doubling of speed will ONLY work with USR products that use the TI chipset - meaning your still stuck on 802.11b. (And paid extra money to do so)
But getting the United States to use Passport to authenticate its 285 million citizens online would be a coup for the Redmond software company. It would also be a large step toward fulfilling Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates' stated goal of getting everyone on the Internet to use Passport as their sign-on tool.

Toxi waste - computers have a very short life and lots of toxic materials.
The networks contend that if a consumer is predicted to receive a signal from their local network TV station using a massive roof-top antenna, then the consumer should not have the option of obtaining programming from the same network which originates in any other city, even when the distant network content is different from the local programming and may be preferred by the consumer.
TV Station: We admit we suck and there are better stations. But we don't want to make ourselves better - we'll pretend the competition doesn't exist because the law says you can't watch them. Now where is that fluff story about...
How does threads fix the issue? How can a process have threads running under different user ids running concurrently? Granted - I don't know much about threaded apache - but isn't this a problem? Or does apache fork out a process for each user id- then each process runs multiple threads?

If you own an IBM Mainframe - you'll be paying out the wazoo in support fees to get those updates.
I'm not sure if it cost $$ to be able to get SunOS updates.

This is particularly true with Bottled water. We actually have many brand named bottled water. It's just water! The formula isn't even different.
Anyone else find number 8 contradictory (Funny)?

I simply want to make them full objects with classes, methods, inheritance, and so forth
The classes would probably be final for reasons of both safety and performance.
If they are final - isn't many of the advantages of making them an object now gone?
