And if it *was* an issue with libraries and the grey area, then they would not have distributed it at all.. even for free.. the GPL only covers the source code distribution. it says nothing about not being allowed to be distributed with a commercial program. Only about if/when you need to provide the source code to your commercial app.
As whether SFU provided free, or they charge for it.. M$'s code is still not open. so the GPL applies the same in both cases, whether M$ charges or not.
Well, Fedora has a policy now as well.. Which includes testing phases for packages. (unstable, testing, stable).. And consistency in package naming and dependencies. and Mandrake has similar things as well..
source engine? where did they come up with that.. That has to be the stupidest and most confusing name for an engine.. and "counter strike source to be released" but, they probably did that to get all the people looking for the source for the source engine to get suckered into looking and something called source that doesn't have the source..
DHCP doesn't listen though.. it's an outgoing request. does a broadcast request for a response.. As I can firewall off all incoming requests and still retrieve an IP via DHCP.
Yes some stupid cable modem internet companies send dhcp acks back over the wire to test if a system is live, but they are not required to have DHCP operate.
And actually, you have to enable the network card before the network even works. ( at least I did when i last installed OS X.. )
That OS X doesn't have any network service running when first installed!!.. Nothing, nada, zilch, zippo.. In order to get exploited you need to have something running that accepts connections.. The default install of the Mac OS X doesn't have a thing. Where as Windows has way too much enabled and exposed.. Most linux systems now days, while they may have some things running, most are only listenting to the internal host (not accessible outside the computer) and they default enable the firewall.
Well, considering the fact that the entire source code of FireFox is available, then any insecurity found can quickly be seen and fixed in record time (hours instead of months), as you can have thousands of eyes looking at the source code. Yes, the mozilla foundation is a core of a dozen developers, but anyone can develop it, and many do by posting bug reports and tracking down issues, and even submitting patches to fix issues in the mozilla bugtracker. Something that can never happen with IE. with IE you are stuck waiting for M$ to get around to fixing a bug (or hiding it even further and denying it)
For me anyway.. It's less steps I have to do when copying and pasting text.. So for me personally I find the ctrl-c,v,x thing annoying and get frustrated when some unix/linux app forces you to use that instaed of allowing the X-selection to copy text. But that's me personally.. And anyway all the new Desktop apps (gnome, kDE) allow for both the X-selection AND the ctrl-c,v,x system as the *standard*. It's only old apps that don't have the keyboard shortcuts.
Well, technically it's not really a fork.. it's the official X source release which XFree86 uses as a base, but X.org merged in the XFree86 changes back into their trunk. so if you think about it, xFre86 was the fork.. now things are going back to the source.
if they alter the e-mail message and add in that 1 pixel gif image to track the viewing of the e-mail, then a GPG, PGP, S/MIME signature would be useless as they have altered the body of the message.
I agree with you completely.. I'm still using gnome 1.4 core, with some gnome 2 apps (gaim, evolution, xchat). and I don't use nautilus at all.. It isn't even running.. I just open up an E-term with midnight commander.. I've played with a full gnome 2.x desktop, but I can't configure metacity the way I need it to.. And the new version sawfish removed several features that I use in the 1,0 version. I've been holding off so long in upgrading my system because of the constant removal of customization in GNOME.
No tax or Duty shall be laid on Articles exported from any State. US Consitution
The states have no right to, it unconstitutional to, claim taxes on items you purchase from another state either via internet , mail order, or any other means.. It is in the constititution from day one because it was abused back under the articles of confederation when states put tarrifs on goods coming into their state from another.
Or at least the 1GB quota.. which by the way, I just found out that I would be over, as I have just over 1GB of e-mail in my private cyrus imap server.
I have SRPMS setup with customization options (--with this feature, --without that feature). And as I have a VMware system with an identicle software setup as the server except with compilers, and I build the packages there the way I want them and test them as well, then have the real servers pull them via my APT repository once I they are tested enough.
That patent was filed at the end of 2000, well after emulators for systems were already out. Looks like they are trying to use the *easy* patent office to get around the fair use, and reverse engineering rights people have.
True.. Very true.. And the pay-per channel system would be nice. but it's not going to happen soon or easily.. the FCC was *supposed* to force that in all broadband companies as of october in 2002, however, they "retracted" that clause before it went into effect.. My brother called up the FCC trying to figure out how to force his cable company to give him one extra channel and they said that the clause is null and void.. (note FCC may be FTC I can never get them straight)
DirectTV extorts money from people if they own a SmartCard reader..
DishNetwork and viacom play foolish "kids" games with the consumers.
and Comcast is just, well expensive, and could care less about it's consumers.
So basically Apples Finder.. Though me personally I still use midnight commander all the time (the text one in an xterm). And don't run any graphical file manager at all. (why waste the ram if you don't use it0
This stinks.. I was so anticipating that game to come out.. Where do these execs get their numbers?? We need to figure how they are getting them wrong.. Though it's probably more likely they are wanting a "killer game" and only "killer games" that make GOBS of money and forget about the rest of the gaming community.. ScummVMs success is perfect evidence that there is a demand for these type of games.
This is like that idea of storring torrents in the DNS. SPF is a nice simple implementation of sender verification without excessive bloat.. Using XML in the DNS is excessive bloat, Sending 2k+ data through the DNS? Why? it could be much better done in like 50 characters (ie. fit in one packet). This will slow things down soo much.. And then DNS maintainers will start limiting the size of TXT records, or blocking them and then the whole system will fail.

I wasn't whining about the CS: Source name..
I was referring to the fact that they named their engine "Source" to begin with..
And me, personally, i could care less about counter strike.

so would this be as far reaching as making scanners, printers and photocopiers illegal? as they *could* be used to violate copyright law?

I called up their RMA support number and the lady on the other end said..
"We don't know why the drives fail."
Instills much confidence in their prodocts.

1.3.31 is in development.. it has NOT been officially released..

Isn't that DossHell in Dos 6.x? (maybe 5.x too)
It sure looks very similar..
A few days from now?? how about today.. It's number two!!
