    Isn't this protected by the bizarro 4th amendment?

    The 4th amendment protects against illegal search and seizure. Properly gathering evidence as part of an investigation of an alleged crime is in fact legal.

    This. For the love of FSM, somebody mod this up. Scientists want to offer their findings to the world with the hope that they will make it a better place to live. Far too many of the posts on this site have called into question the good faith of scientists in this regard.

    It tales a lot of study, work, and determination to become a scientist. Despite what some may suggest, the financial rewards are modest. Scientists put their hearts into what they do. They deserve to be heard when they have something to say.

    Bittorrent is not to be used for theft. Stop using bittorrent for that purpose.

    FTFY. I have happily used bittorrent on many occasions to copy and share material that is legally unencumbered. (Linux ISOs, for example.)

    Indirectly, yes. Electric cars aren't moving all the time. You can charge them from solar panels when they're parked. Solar panels on the cars themselves would be a bonus.

    I clicked on your link, hoping to see a dispassionate analysis of fascism from an academic poli-sci wonk. Instead, you point to a screed from Jonah Goldberg, contributor to National Review and Fox News, that torturously redefines fascism to fit an anti-liberal agenda.

    Between Trump and Clinton, Clinton is closer to fascism ideologically than Trump.

    It is abundantly clear that you don't know what fascism is. Maybe this will help.

    Fascism is perhaps too strong a word to describe Trump's ideology. But authoritarianism sure does seem to fit.

    UK doesn't have at-will employment. The US does. Try again.

    US at-will employees are still protected by federal and state laws (e.g., discrimination, harassment, whistle-blowing.) An employer can terminate without cause, but not in a way that is illegal.

    will be over. More than 20 million were killed in car accidents in the 21st century alone.

    Let's not even pretend this will suddenly end death related to car accidents. Sadly in today's landscape, this only opens up the door to even more nefarious hacking, with truly deadly results.

    Let's suppose that there is a collection of evil hackers out there who could make that happen when the technology arrives.

    Are you seriously suggesting that these people would rack up a body-count that even approaches what humans do to themselves in cars right now? And that they won't be caught, or stopped as exploits are discovered and fixed?

    Imagine how easily you can tail a car now that you can stay out of visual range and still know exactly where they are? Tell me the police won't want that capability.

    Yes, the police probably will want that capability. But let's make sure they need to get a warrant before they can use it on an individual.

    It's not like they can't put a lojack on a suspect's car. Or track the old-fashioned way without a warrant.

    No, but I suspect such moderators would if they could.

    The point is that some moderators abuse their power. Instead of using mod points to promote a healthy discussion, they use it to advance their own agendas. They shouldn't be modding, but for some reason it seems that far too many of them are.

    When I moderate, if I encounter a well-considered post that I disagree with, either I leave it alone, or moderate it "Interesting" if it seems worthy. I seldom use negative mod points, but when I do, it's for posts that contain poor or faulty arguments (which I would mod "Overrated") and for others that I think most would agree fit the mod-description ("Off-topic", "Flamebait", or "Troll".)

    As you can see from my UID, I have been on Slashdot for awhile. There have always been moderators who have abused the privilege, Meta-moderating helps to remove them, yet they persist. But in recent years, there seems to have been a dramatic increase in the number of abusive moderators on Slashdot.
