  1. In the worst design spec in industry Apple continues to rivet their keyboards in place making it all but impossible to change them out.....for another bad keyboard. You have to literally rip the old keyboard out then remove all the old rivets, drill them out and tap a zillion new holes to accept new screws to attach the new keyboard. On the PLUS side, you'll have an easy time of it next time the keyboard fails...you might want to have a few on hand.

Of course I have backups! But all these pics are ORGANIZED on Flickr....much more than just a photo stream.

  3. I have over 24,000 pix on Flickr on SmugMug Buys Flickr, Vows To Revitalize the Photo Service (usatoday.com) · · Score: 1

Yes, that's a lot of photos and I'm worried. How long before they start changing things and turn Flickr into crap? They say "no changes" - but by now we've learned not to believe such statements from tech companies. It's a wakeup call that my pix may become lost and I'd best start moving them NOW.

Any promoters reading the fine print are likely to tell Evenbrite to take a short walk off a long plank. What organization would agree to this?

  5. Mental gymnastics indeed. I have been off FB for several years. So how can FB be collecting datapoints on non-FB users? What are they doing, scraping the entire Internet? FB services covers a lot of ground....naturally the next thing for me to delete in WhatsApp as I'm sure there are some datapoints there. But what else?

  9. Apple will likely NOT fix this problem. on State Department Seemingly Buys $15,000 iPhone Cracking Tech GrayKey (vice.com) · · Score: 2

Apple is being forced into a corner to provide a backdoor so this hardware hack will probably be allowed to stand. So what does this hack do? Try all possible 6 digit passcodes until it unlocks? I had heard that after "X" number of bad passcode entries that the iPhone would wipe itself, but have never found out how to set this up.

  17. Agree to above, but I had thought that today's smartphones still emit a traceable signal even when completely turned OFF. I assume this means the police can track the phone, but Facebook could not.

  23. The Death of FIrefox on AskSlashdot: How Do You See Your Life After Firefox 52 ESR? (mozilla.org) · · Score: 3

Yes, Firefox seem to be adept at shooting itself in the foot, but this time Mozilla will lose a very significant segment of their user base: There is a large user base who depend on the Add-On's which make Firefox so useful. The real showstopper for me is AdBlock Plus. Best we can do now is NOT update and keep checking on "Legacy" items in our Add-On's to which vendors have re-coded. Likely most will not within a decent time frame so I'll probably be jumping ship along with the other heavy Add-On users.
