    But if you had cruise control and lane assist that were trustworthy and legal to NOT have to pay attention (read a book, browse the net, sleep, be prepared to take over with a 30 second warning) that would be enormously useful, even if it only worked on highways. I hope we are not too far off that. Obviously cars without steering wheels are another thing entirely.

    Why? From the philosophical aspect it is analogous to contraception vs not having sex at all. From the health aspect we should evaluate each particular treatment. OK, for the environment growing and eating more food than necessary certainly isn't ideal.

    It's NOT seven years. You have to start counting when most of the phones with 4.0 are either upgradeable or stop being sold. I bought my first Android phone in April 2011, an LG Optimus One P500. It was on 2.2, upgradeable to 2.3.

    The kona and niro both have ICE or hybrid versions. And the EV ones have huge empty space under the boot. And (at least the Niro has) raised floor at the rear where the batteries are, making for less comfortable seating in the rear row.

    The i3 is a fashion statement. Not any roomier inside than a VW up or smart forfour, and stupid doors.

    In the days of 15" CRT monitors, I would set the resolution to 1024 x 768, interlaced, and set a desktop pattern of white-black horizontal lines. The whole desktop flickered at 43,5 Hz.

    Also, there will be approximately 4000 days "by 2030", so generating three days' worth of energy is about one thousandth of country's needs, not really impressive I'd say.

    Apps CAN'T call 911 by themselves - the OS does not allow that. Apps CAN open the phone app and insert the emergency number in there, so the user only has to tap the "call" button.

    Any conversation is only "just as easily done via Skype" if all parties are very motivated and disciplined. Sadly, that is rarely the case, thus the need for business travel.

    But they are mining it, i.e. converting energy, human work, and a few other resources to gold. More or less the same thing.

    No, Google Maps only says it needs to know your location. I never allow it, and it still works as a map, i.e. to let you explore places.

    Why should someone pay for a parking slot if they don't have a car? But if turns out, if you let private investors build residential neighborhoods but don't demand enough parking space, the city will have a problem down the road.

    If by "a new standard" you mean we will not be actually using lots of home-charging electric cars but something else, then yes, it will be just as obsolete as copper "phone" wires (but at least those served us well for several decades).

    If it's just a new kind of connector etc, it is not so bad. The biggest cost in apartment complexes is wiring the building so that each parking place has power available and billable to the owner. It is also difficult to do in existing buildings because multiple people have to agree. Changing the actual "charger"/connector for a newer one if/when needed is just a few hundred € currently, and once it becomes a mass market item you will be able to AliExpress it for 39,95, including shipping.

    An anecdote from my grandfather: when he was in the army (in the 1930's, in southern Europe), lots of folks couldn't read but still received letters from their family, so my grandfather would read them aloud. They wanted him to put his hands over his ears so he wouldn't hear what he was reading.

    ...because as soon they realize that the party they are currently attending is not a good one, they go back to before it started and unattend it. It is one of the time travel paradoxes that they miss all the parties that could be good but were spoilt by their presence.
