The company, On2 Technologies, has disclaimed all patent right on the technology. However, as far as I know they are not a significant holder of video compression patents. I don't think any actual big video patent holders has commented about Theora. This means that there is a significant risk of submarine patents.
According to the paper Theora is comparable in performance to the old H.261 codec. H.261 is about 20 years old so all patents on it have most likely expired. H.261 is widely implemented and if the performance claims are true, it makes Theora rather pointless.
What exactly is the problem? A340 is by far the most comfortable long-haul plane. Quiter cabin than in Boeing planes. No middle seats in business. Only four abreast in economy (vs. five in 747 and 777). And yes, I have tried them all.

Since you have actually implemented justified text for Mozilla, maybe you could consider contributing that to Konqueror too. A way more productive approach than flaming in Slashdot.

I find these whiny comments about KDE icons annoying. Anyone without any programming or artistic background could go and take the GPL:d Gnome icon set and convert, package and publish that for KDE. All it would take is some rather reasonable amount of work.
But I guess it would be too much to ask for you people to get off from your lazy ass and actually contribute something.
Fact is that Gnome 1.x (including 1.4,/. editor is being generous here) is way behind KDE from the technical point of view. Application integratation, internationalization, accessibility, coherent architecture, etc. etc.
Even core Gnome developers recognize this and are working for complete overhaul in 2.0 (though there have been some backpedaling from the most ambitious plans).

No it doesn't. UMTS phones use AMR-WB (Adaptive Multi-Rate Wideband) speech codec that offers superior sound quality.
