A well written post. It will be nice if you can explain some of your finer points, since I don't seem to be capable of comprehending TFA, your post, and further googling.

I fail to connect between your point and TFA. Where do they fit together?

"In third grade, Nikki was diagnosed with a brain tumor ... 8-year-old Nikki had to undergo intensive radiation, and doctors told her parents the effects of that treatment on her young brain might show up someday -- perhaps by causing changes in her judgment, or impulse control.

Once again I failed to understand what you mean, as I'm confused by TFA again:

I upgraded Eeebuntu's OpenOffice from 2.4 to 3 (IIRC), and it appears to work great. The only things hampering me from productivity bliss are the keyboard size and touchpad position.

I'm now trying Xandros Presto 1.0 Trial on my Eee 901 (installed in the 4GB SSD) and learning about BartPE on USB. My aim is to find a way to tell people to "try Linux, it boots really, really fast", and hopefully find a free distro that can match Xandro's 6-second boot time (after the NTLDR and GRUB4DOS menus).

I've seen various fonts move through the usual cycle, becoming popular, overused, then fade into the "use when suitable" category. Other ways of expressing this change:

    • From "popular" to "appropriate".
    • From "calling attention to itself" to "making the reader feel positively attracted" when used on an advertisement.
    • From "style of the month" to "bringing the message/promotion across".

I respect graphic artists for respecting the proper usage of typefaces, and I sometimes learn by realizing what they did not include in the advertisement.

You've written a brilliant explanation of the inward and outward eye-crossing, by the way.

I think there should be a simple way of training people to see stereograms (if it doesn't already exist).

    1. Provide two PDF files for printing.
    2. Put each paper at X distance in front of you.
    3. Focus on the further paper.
    4. Without adjusting focus, slowly bring the nearer paper into your field of vision ...

I think after a few tries, the learner should catch on quickly.

Back to topic: I believe algorithms to bring a stereogram back to the original image, do exist. (There's highly complex algorithms to convert off-focus images to in-focus. Compared, reverse sterogram is downright simple.) Therefore, a stereogram is not an effective CAPTCHA.
