    This is by far the best mapping tool I think I have ever seen (At least at first glance.) Now they just need to have a topo version as well, perhaps a way to switch back and forth. A wireless satalite internet device built into a gps useing this would be an awsome tool.

    The power supply is one of those strange things that a cheap one wont make your computer any slower, at least most of the time, but when it blows on you it sure sucks. I have a home server that has only been restarted twice in 4 years. both times have been failed power supplies.

    it was Microsoft's plan all along. start crappy and stay crappy just shift the crap around every few years and you can say things are getting better. People will be so use to the crap that they will testify that thigns work perfect for them. People will claim they've had days, weeks even months of uptime without a computer crash because most of the crashes they don't even notice anymore, they just blindly reboot/restart without a second thought. Most people don't even realize they do it.

    Which outlines the main difference between Democrats and Republicans.

    Democrats gain support because they are trying to get everyone to just work on one "Right Thing" ie.. Universal health care, Social Security, Public Schools, etc etc...

    Republicans want the competition of the private sector to compete and help push up the best and have the worse die off.

    Which idea works the best is up for political debate.

    This is creating an all powerful overseer (ie LSB) While not that powerfull yet they are gaining. Many distrubitions are supporting the LSB and those that don't will be doomed to thier nitch for better or worse.

    with LSB we have one LSB with diffrent levels for diffrent applications giving a common base to anyone who follows it.

    before LSB we had Redhat Linux, Suse Linux, Debian Linux, Mandrake Linux, and many others all with very little common ground.

    You're right, I don't know where I got pronouce $ as string???? But I do it in perl while reading perl code. I do it in greep for things like cap string ^$. or in shell for things like string one $1 or string display $DISPLAY. I even seem to say string fifty dollars when I see $50.00

    Can't think of the origins of that habit though. must be part of string theory :)

    Right now I have about 15 Oracle servers and two Veritas Clusters. I am personally a Debian fan and would put Debian on any system other than these that need real vendor support, but I don't want to screw the next guy and complicate our environment more than need be. I have a standard Suse 8 and 9 install that is fully documented for all applications I have to support (about 50 diffrent ones) and it helps to keep the suprises to a minimum when you log into that old server that has been up and running for over a year without sysadmin interferance.

    Me: Hi, Veritas, I am trying to set up VCS on my Gentoo cluster.
    Veritas: We don't support Gentoo

    Don't think Gentoo is going on any of my servers. We standardized on Suse do to the huge support structure that has been put in place with them being purchased by Novell. When you are a single admin over 112 servers you need to be sure that each one you log in to is exacly the same. Automation is key. Good vendor support is a requirement.

    It's built into the system. I don't like Social Security, but when the time comes I'll be collecting my check. Not because I think it is the right way to invest money but because I had to and that's how the system works.

    I will vote and do what I can in order to privatize it though until then. Use the system as it is, even if it is against the changes you are trying to make.

    Yea, but when the MPAA sues you, and you say "It was my kids, I didn't know." they can say "Hey, we provided parents tools to make sure their kids weren't doing illegal activities on their computers."

The scientific community also waited until the 1800's before they took an interest in Lobsters. Therefore, the oldest Lobster on record lived to be 100 years old, and weighed about 43 pounds."

    I did the same thing. I remeber hearing a while back that lobster don't actually age and continue to grow throughout their lifespan. Now they are mostly over fished but I har heard that lobster use to get up to 75lbs and well over 100 years old. The main limiting factor to lobsters life span was as they got bigger it was easer for preditors to get them as they couldn't hide as well.

    Don't know if any of it was true but it was interesting enough to rember but not interesting enough for me to validate.

    Other than the fact that it would most likely drop rather quickly I figured if it gets to space tourism for $30k and doesn't come down for 10 years then I will go or if I get to 45-50 years old then I would try to go. That is a substantial chunk of change but I think it would be worth it far more than most any other investment.
