And we put a lot more effort into preventing and finding justice for murderers than we do terrorists. In fact we have large scale departments used for little more than doing just that.
You, sir, are missing something. People voluntarily purchase/construct/use swimming pools. Only a few people have ever thought it a great idea to fly planes into buildings. And almost nobody every thought it a good idea to have one flown into the building they were in.
A swimming pool is an accepted risk, understood by most everybody in the U.S. and even more so by those who own them. being killed by a random act of violence with no purpose but to bring attention to a cause that is not theirs to be for or oppose is not something people are willing to accept.
Because I keep all my most important stuff stored in the admin home directory and there is nothing in my home directory that a trojan could steal or use to my disadvantage.
Do we really need to wait until it gets that bad? Can't we at least try to stop it before hand? They passed this once, they took over healthcare and now passing this again. perhaps we should see the signs of Tyranny and stop it in the beginning rather than wait for people to have to die.
Out of curiosity, did you play it with the same intensity as the memories you had of it?
I just recently, last night actually, grabbed an SNES emulator on my Xoom to play some old snes roms. I seem to play just enough of them to get a memory of them, end up missing the hard parts 2-3 hours in to the game that I worked so hard to get passed but had no desire to play that long to get to them again. I guess at the very least it's nice that most emulators let you pause and save the game at nearly any point, so you can always come back to that one later.
you have a pretty liberal, brain washed, view of profit. It means you have added value to something. whether you've taken raw materials and refined them into something of more value and sold it, or you brokered a deal that allowed someone else to get something they wanted.
investment + labor = value add = profit
With your line of thought then everybody in the world is ripping off companies every day because they get more in their paycheck than they put into the company ie ~$0.
It's the weight of the water vs the external pressure pushing on the water. A vacuum can lift different fluids to different heights based on their weight. Mercury is about 30" at sea level, water is about double that.
I've nearly narrowed my computer use to my xoom and an aws server. The xoom does 90% of what I need a computer to do. Email, web+flash, chat, make and edit movies, ssh to my server, photo management, etc...
So obviously the rest of the country is stuck on 2g service. Poor 3rd world countries.

And why everyone should appose progressive ideals no matter what party they come from.
3,443 in one year is quite a bit different than nearly that number in just a couple of hours.

can anyone explain, in a logical manner, why exactly we need light bulbs?
Isn't it just a fancy new expensive oil lamp?
with LILO you had a conf file and a command you had to run
With GRUB you have a conf file
which is simpler?
Spoken like a true buggy whip manufacturer. Well done.
yea not only that but in 70 years 90% of everyone that worked at the plant will be dead.
viking80 doesn't need source, she is a dolphin.
Shouldn't that be, "Don't put all your business in one apple."
Big Satire has a huge lobbing division and many offices in DC.

"How you get so big eating food of this kind?"

Small nit-pick: You already have the security holes now for free, this would just help in pointing them out.

Slashdot may be one big pile of stupid, but it's not as bad as most of the rest of the internet.
Art of war.
When you are weak, come on strong.
When you are strong, display weakness.
paraphrased from memory, sorry.

my PC is mostly just for games.
Neither will healthcare.
Both could leave you in a situation where your long term survival may be questionable.
