Ya, one of the new features in iPhone OS 4.0 is "Data Protection". Specified files for applications are on the fly encrypted and decrypted. The phone has to be unlocked (valid pin entered) to access the data.

Seems like they already handled this issue, unless someone wants to test that on an iPhone with 4.0 running on it...

  3. Yes I would on Would You Pay 5 Cents For a Song? · · Score: 1

5 cents a song... a cd's worth would cost you around $1. Most new cd's only have a few songs worth owning anyways, so really your paying for what you like. As an added bonus you also force music too be a higher quality. As mentioned, it would probably force bands to release songs or sets of songs instead of entire cd's. The overall quality of music would rise and the discontent of the people would lower. Of course try explaining that too the RIAA. They see dollar signs, not happiness.

You need a CC to sign up and then you can link your bank account. They centre their business on you having a CC that they can query for extended information. Those countries that have CC's but are not supported probably don't supply the information paypal thinks it needs to operate. They basically need access to pre-auth requests... which some places don't provide yet or their CC gateway doesn't support yet.

I definatly agree with not listening to hype. I tend to ignore it for most part. I do like to look at tech specs for stuff, but if you know what your comparing it against it's not really subject to hype. I feel sorry for the fools that blindly follow the marketing puppet masters. You end up with people who say they love a game for no reason at all. Reminds me of "The Wizard of Oz" where someone wanted a brain... maybe these sheep need brains?

  9. Marketing Hype Strikes Again on A Negative Review of Halo 2 · · Score: 1

Funny how marketing will pump up games to a god like status that people will blindly follow. When the game is actually released it never seems to be as good as the marketing make it look. It's a setup for disappointment everytime. Halo 2 is subject to the eyes of the beholder problem. Take drinking beer for example as marketing. If I have enough beer, almost any girl is hot. Apply that to Halo 2 and you have one ugly girl under all that marketing.

Sorry for bringing reality with me... but perhaps you can buy one game first... then if you happen to own both consoles by the other game later. Why on earth would you be compeled to buy both at the same time when you know you can possible play both at the same time. Square knows your gonna buy it eventually, so they don't really give a fly monkeys poop if you buy one of them before the other. They do hope that your dumb enough to buy both at the same time at the full price. Perhaps buying one at the full price at release and then waiting the month or so for it to go down in price wouldn't hurt your wallet, or your free time.

  17. I've had this problem before on TurboTax Activation Fiasco · · Score: 1

Last year I had this very problem where I did my tax, formatted my harddrive and went to reinstall. My key was apparently not valid anymore. I phone them up and ask what was going on, thinking there was some kind of mistake. At the artical says, its a one time install setup. They offered to charge me a nominal fee (I can't remember how much, but I'll guess aroung $20 CND) to sell me another key to install the software. I asked if there was any other way to get around this silly scheme that had. They told me I could get a key for free some time after the dead line for filling taxes in Canada.

In closing, I redid my taxes by hand and wasted $39 on some tax software. I'll probably do it by hand again this year.

  25. My Experience on Is Your Computer a Fire Hazard Waiting to Happen? · · Score: 1

In the past three years I have had my power supply fans fail twice. The first time it happened it actually started a fire while I was away from home. Since metal doesn't burn that good the damage was kept mostly to the case and power supply unit. The other occurence was a fan failure in the power supply again, but this time I caught it before much damage was done.

While I still leave my computers on 24/7 to this day, I have invested in power supplies with fan headers (Enermax). In the even of a fan failure in the power supply my computer is set to shutdown. As an extra prevention I air intake filters in my case to protect against dust which can lead to fans seizing.

As a side note, water cooling has become a very reliable way of cooling computers. Not only has it be shown to be quiter but in most cases requires less maintaince. I seem to be replacing case cans every year or so. Fans seem to get noiser with age. Anyways, thats my canadian beef about the matter.
