  1. 64-bits = bad on 64 Bit Athlon Notebooks Hit the Market · · Score: 1

We don't need 64-bit computers, every few years they come out and double the damn bits, and every year without a doubt computers get harder and harder to use. Sure, I have a CS degree but how will I ever figure out 64-bit Windows when I can't even understand 32-bit Windows. I say we go back to 16-bit, Windows 3.1 was the pinnacle of the series.

They act as if they would be doing everybody a favor by building broadband but if they decide to keep with their core business of local and long distance service they are gonna get wrecked by the cable and cell phone companies (at least some of the Bells are smart and are cell companies as well). I don't have or need a phone line or long distance service because of my cell and I have cable for internet, they are gonna get left behind if they don't invest in new areas.

  6. Re:"Surprising results"? on Mac vs. PC Digital Photography Comparison · · Score: 2

I do get frustrated at the lack of performance from Apples though. I work for a research center that does intensive image manipulation and video editing and is entirely Mac. I'm sure about 5 years ago this made a lot of sense with the general weakness of Windows and networking at the time for PCs but I am continually frustrated that when a new Mac comes in for $2,000 it is slower than my $1000 PC that I built a year ago for my home use, even in Photoshop which is certainly one of the Macs most core applications. Ease of use isn't really an issue for me, any Mac or Win9X GUI or later is pretty damn easy to use.

Honestly though, I'd probably get more work done on a slower machine with no internet access heh....

  7. Re:Wordperfect and ideas for OpenOffice on HP Drops Microsoft Word in Favor of WordPerfect · · Score: 1

I've just asked few mom-age people about WordPerfect and got the typical answer: "Back in DOS I've been enjoying in WordPerfect. Despite non-WYSIWYG (or quasi-WYSIWIG) UI, the usability logic was more intuitive and more goal-oriented then even modern MS Word. If it would be a chance to choose I'd certainly get WordPerfect. Just keep me two sync windows: one with pre-view and the other with pseudo markup code - I want to control and understand my work."

I don't know if that would be the "typical answer" that a "mom-aged" person would give. I would think it'd be more like "I use Word, it works alright."

  8. Re:The Cable Industry on Comcast in Court, AT&T Gets Greedy · · Score: 1

True, you won't be depriving anyone else of cable by stealing it but you will deprive the cable company of the money their service is worth. Goods are not worth the sum of their raw materials, they are worth what the market is willing to pay them. If you steal cable then you are taking $X/month out of the cable company's revenue. Just because it costs the company nothing if you were to say split your neighbors cable and use it for yourself as well does not mean it's not theft.
