Haha, RIGHT. If *if* you get a skilled Union worker, they will show up between 10 and 11 throwing every excuse at you, take an hour lunch at 1, leave at 3, and charge you for 7-5. The only good construction union that I've seen is steel workers. And that's because all the ones I've seen were ex-Marines who had work ethic and a wanting to do a good job.
Yes, and we all know that anyone can come up to speed on a product instantly. I dealt with this just today. I did a one time job for the company that kind of let me go "until they needed me." And now they need me to do something no one else knows how to do, and I said "Sorry, I have a new full time job." The look of fear in a boss's eye is a very interesting thing.
Uhm, it takes a force to move something, no matter how small it is. A Newton meter is a Newton meter. It's the force required to move one Newton one meter. So yes, it adds up, whether you like it or not.
Huh? You don't know what you're talking about. DSL is usually provided over an ATM connection for one thing. DSL is not a type of Internet connectivity. It is a type of network connectivity, the Internet never has to be involved. Ethernet is a layer 2 protocol that can run over a variety of layer 1 media. Ethernet over fiber is probably about as versatile as you can get in an environment like this. Copper will work just as well and cheaper if the condos are close enough together.
Most of the population is too stupid to type words correctly in their native tongue, so yes, regular expressions are way too complicated for the average idiot to handle. However, it'd be a nice feature of the Google API or something.
Oh don't remind me. I remember trying to hold a stack of like twenty or more floppies between my index and middle fingers and my thumb and then suddenly feel it "let go" and have disks fly out like a deck of cards. The horror.
They can protest all they want, it's their right. However, they cannot, in doing so, infringe on MY RIGHTS. And getting in my way is infringing on my rights. Stupid penalty? Possibly. Stupid premise? Not neccesarily.
Says who? For all I care, put an "and" wherever you want.

Writing wrappers for your own libraries is common. If you have an application designed with several organizational layers and library x works on layer 1 but everything that uses it needs to work on layer 2, then you write a wrapper so they're on the same page so to speak.
But my point is that everyone has a different style. I want to decide where I want to indent/start a new line, based on whether or not I think it is needed, not whether or not Guido thinks it's needed.
I agree. I read something about the whole enforced formatting thing once before. Then, it was confirmed in the little slashback blurb. That's ridiculously stupid.
Yea, I started my job before 9th grade and I've had it four or so years now and haven't gotten a raise. However, the market sucks so much that it's not worth it. Four years at one place starting when I was 14 looks very good. Especially when it ranges from networking to programming etc.
Actually, LEDs light up about 1/5 second faster than convential traffic lights, this translates to about 12 feet at 40 mph. That's a significant difference. By me, yellows generally last a fairly long time by design. It kind of sucks though that where you are they're shortening them to catch more people. Now, there are sensors on the lights at certain intersections that identify approaching emergency vehicles and if need be, make the rest of the intersection red and their light green, to make going through as safe as possible.
Yea, yellow is usually the last to be replaced (I know this because I do work at police departments and one of the departments' computer guy is a traffic detective). The reason is that it's not on very often and isn't as "important." LEDs offer excellent benefits for red and green though. They have faster response time, translating into more stopping distance at speed. Plus, they are brighter, and you can see it. And they save money in the long run because they don't need to be replaced as often.
My point being that the spontaneous nature of music is disappearing. Real musicians don't need fancy crap to sound good. They just do if they have talent. Notice over the past few decades, music has gotten significantly worse as a whole following one of the largest creative peaks ever. Less is more. People need to throw out their synthesizers and get down to the real deal.
I read an Albini interview in some book by The Onion and he spoke of he and Nirvana not really being right for each other. He is a great guy though. He mentions in the interview I read he'll charge a small time band $500 to do a whole album.
Been there, done that. Transperformance makes them, except there are buttons on the guitar rather than a foot pedal. Jimmy Page uses one during a song on the video No Quarter.
Because I'm sure you're such an authority on music. If Jimmy Page hadn't a single original idea in his head, then no one ever did. Music is an ever evolving thing, everyone knows that. Jimmy Page loved to play in alternate tunings and explore different music tapestries. Exhibit A: The Rain Song. Exploration is all about using old ideas to create new ones. Here's a quarter, go buy a clue.
What's funny is that previously, the guitarist was expected to do these things, with I dont know, his fingers. Great, now we're making it easier for people who suck to suck even more.
Yea, McGreevy's approval rating is like 30%. Now, Whitman was a screwup in her last term too. We need another interim governor, DiFrancisco was good while he was here. Biggest downside is car insurance.

Well, I recently bought a 1999.5 Audi A4 1.8tqm (Turbo, Quattro, Manual). While it seems like most of the ricer enthusiasts do stupid things like you say to their cars, the Audi crowd seems to attract more intelligent buyers who really work on their cars. Aside from Audi's firmware being reverse engineered and redone for a 40 hp gain (not marketing lies, a real 40 - 50 hp gain on the turbo engines), a lot of the Audi people are very hands on. Swapping out turbos for bigger ones, changing clutches (like you said), etc. It's even more impressive these days because when you upgrade your turbo for instance, your firmware pretty much HAS to be different, otherwise things don't work. REAL tuning is alive and well in some communities.

Some machines we used to have at work would swap over the network as soon as they ran out of local swap. I believe they were AIX machines.

I happen to be listening to the Gov't Mule cover of War Pigs off of Live With A Little Help From Our Friends.
Ok, it's not as bad that you don't have to use separate lines in the cases you mentioned. Although I do like my curlys.

And this is the product of CS majors switching to an English major. =P
