  3. I've had outgoing mail left, usually utility bills. The mailman walks between 2-3 houses and is out of sight by the time that I walk to my front door.

  5. We don't live in the time of the pony express or the telegraph. Information travels at light speed around our globe and is analyzed and re-reported in real time.     I live in southern California and there are two major electric lines, one from the east and the other from the north. Damage to either would be likely and due to their remote location, there would be a six or eight hour drive from the nearest place that might have any repair ability. There's no power to pump fuel from underground tanks so how can any agency respond. Add an earthquake to the scene....

    I've never participated with Facebook or other sharing sites. My sister posts pics and stories then asks me if I saw this or that. I say no, call me or send an email. There are already enough sites that harvest all of my life, why add another?

    Hidden cost: wear and tear on their vehicles. Mtnce. costs are very high in my area with car dealers charging USD $150 per hour and private shops a little less.

    I lost seven days off when my employer combined sick and vacation. Compensatory time was unlimited, then reduced to a max of 40 hrs. It was a large municipal government and could operate with several people absent for a few days or weeks.

  13. It took me 5 years to reach my employers three weeks per year of time off. I made long weekends taking off a Monday or Friday. Originally there was separate sick and vacation days buy my Union caved in and I lost seven says per year. I explored Oregon, Washington, California, Arizona and New Mexico. My manager hated when I took off and the people I assigned to take care of things usually failed, leaving me two weeks to fix things.

  15. I've given thousands to my sons, I would rather see them spend or save it as they wish. Son Bryan wants to buy a house but a two bedroom shack in south California costs $450,000 USD. My other son went to Europe for three weeks to meet a friend. I love to hear him say " When I was in Spain...."

  17. I don't live by my phone. It is currently turned off sitting on my desk. I decide when to check for calls or messages, few things in life cannot wait for an hour or four.

    I agree. I've been in pristine areas in the Sierra Nevada mountains where I could smell the trees and vegetation but nothing made by a person. Been to Death Valley too, the heat and solar radiation would destroy any scent. Have you smelled a rock lately?
