That's something I've learned about PC hardware. You must plan for failure.
Every sysadmin should do this.. Too many people think about "if it crashes" not "when it crashes". If your server's HD died today, what shape would you be in? That's the first thing you should ask yourself when thinking about your backup strategy... Trust me, I learned that the hard way!! LOL!
Yes, I've noticed this too, but not quite that bad. Back in the 80's and 90's, floppy disks used to be very reliable, not perfect, but pretty good. I've noticed a huge drop in quality over the past 4 or 5 years, though. They are basically not usable anymore. I haven't experimented with different brands, though, maybe there are better ones out there which maybe cost a little more.
problem is that engineers like their jobs. engineers will do their jobs as a hobby if they can't get paid for it. Why shouldn't a business owner exploit that in today's world?
What? Mechanics like their jobs, too, and supe up their cars in their spare time. They still get paid and have reasonable job security.
Yeah, post x-mas.. I just got my PS2 for xmas (yeah, I have a great wife!). Anyway, surfing just behind the technology wave is and always has been much cheaper. I'll be getting the most out of my PS2 and my aging PC before rushing out to buy the latest and greatest tech. Anyway, you're right, it is amazing how comon these consoles have become, almost everyone I know has one, but networking them isn't quite main stream yet.
That is interesting, it really shows how unreputable they are. I've been on Rogers high speed for several years. When Excite@home was going through problems, the amount of spam jumped dramatically (about 20-30 per week). Recently, my address changed from @home.com to @rogers.com, and I've been getting no spam since then, but I am very careful about giving out my address (although I always was), and I'm not sure if they have any spam-filtering software on their mail servers. If I need to give out an email address to anyone I don't trust, I give them one of my free web-mail accounts. Remind me to put Sympatico on that list of non-trusted entities! LOL!
One small point, off topic.. Using "@" as an abreviation for "at", although it may seem cool, is actually two keystrokes (shift+2) same as the actual word, and plus it's annoying. Please stop doing it.
Yep, if it works for you then don't change it... I was surprised because my experience of printing from Win95, especially over a network, has been very poor. Printing from Linux is a pain to set up, and you're right, it might end up taking a lot of time!
when is microsoft gonna learn that its all about empowering the user... not crippling him i don't say their products aren't good
When are you going to learn that Microsoft doesn't give a rats ass about it's users as long as they are buying every upgrade?;-) In all seriousness, Microsoft is driven by profits and marketing, not good software or empowering users.
Of course, this post should be modded as -1 Redundant, it's been said many times on/.

You had wooden disks?? We had to chisel stone slabs! And without a hammer!! ;-)

I think I just found my new sig!
If he could just replace step 4 with "Profit!", he'd be set!

You can't tell the difference between Coke and Pepsi??
a very rich object-based mechanism for managing system properties
and:
transparent remote execution.
Given Microsofts dedication to security, this scares the pants off me.
Uh oh, the grammar Nazis are having a field day today! ;-)
It snowed a bit here today in Toronto, but not much accumulation ... I'm expecting a green Christmas for sure. Damn global warming!!
I guess an unemployed software engineer could set up a fake escrow site, html's not that hard! ;-)
Zero Wing! For great justice!!

Be prerpared to have your mailbox blasted with spam from the Bell sympatico.ca domain!
I thought you said "Bring peace to Middle Earth" for a second.. LOTR on the brain, I guess!

I wonder if this could be used to make snow, the ski season hasn't even started here (Toronto, Canada). Screw the farmers, give me snow!!
Better make sure you're wearing an asbestos suit before asking that question...
You've obviously never had a user "accidentally" pour lighter fluid into a running HP 4500 Colour Laserjet.
Wow, I always wanted to simulate the pain and drug induced fuzzyness of being stuck in a hospital bed while imobilized in a cast. Now I can!!

What's the second rule, "you do not talk about Google"? ;-)
Text messaging, anyone? ;-)
