Bigger is always better for the Americans. Yet, some airplane hijackers were able to deliver a serious blow to the american societies armed with only knives.
Ahhh... That bring down memories of the infamous ZModem protocol that was widely used in warez BBSs. There was a rule that said "you need to upload if you want to download". Therefore, the fastest way to get a software would be to upload at the same time as the download. The funny thing is that the synchronization was done by hand. Meaning that you needed to see the download caracter at the screen, to start uploading. If you miss by a couple of seconds, you could not get the synchronization right, and had to start over.
I was first introduced to another kind of smiley. As I was hanging out in a university BBS (circa 1987), people frequently used *\/*. Try to imagine two cheeks with the lips smiling. It does not look much like a smiley on the web, but you could clearly see it on a VT100 terminal. It also had the advantage that you didn't need to turn you head sideway to see it.:)
In the 1990s Prince changed his name to The Artist Formerly Known As Prince, then to an unpronouncable symbol. All that to escape a long-term contract he had with Warner Music. In 2000 he changed his name back to Prince when his contract expired.
No most of the heat really comes from the brakes. I live in Montreal and here we do not have A/C (it would really be a total waste since there's about 20 very hot summer days per year here). The subway is also much deeper in the ground than in NY (it usually takes you two big escalators to get to the subway cars, sometimes three). And on the very hot summer day, it is also very hot in the subway (almost unbearable in some station). In fact, some people fainted the very first year . They had to add fans to push air in so it get cooler.
There is others problems... Can you imagine for example a motor precise enough so the laser is within.3 nm of where it should be, so the data can be read back?
I did upgrade my home theater system recently and after talking to many experts on that matter (vendors are usually NOT expert), I always received the same 2 comments:
1) Hear before you buy!!! Every person has different taste in music. It's really about "do you like what you are hearing?" So do not be afraid to bring that Olivia Newton-Jone CD you like so much to the store. Sit, and listen to the different systems.
2) Do NOT follow the vendors advice to include at least 10% of your total price in cable. This is ridiculous. Buy grade 12 cable that you can find at home renovation stores. That should be enough. As a general rule, you'll get more for your money if you invest in speakers or amplifier than in fancy cable.
And my advice : buy Canadian speakers!:) They usually are very cheap with the same performance as american or japanese speakers.
Does anybody know why Tom "blured" the filename in the snapshot? Movie 1 & 2 from the second page seems to have the same filename!
It's probably because he doesn't want us to look through gnutella for the Matrix movie.
Or maybe it's because it's the same mpeg afterall? (talk about not "significant difference"):)

Actually, It make more sense with the two articles in mind.
Could it be a move a la "printer (a.k.a. razor) business model"? Give the hardware, then make it back on the software (using royalties).
sustained write speed = 8MB/s. Then it would take more than 1 hour to fill the entire drive. That's like the old CDRom 1X!
Is it waterproof???
The DVD will be out in three weeks. So for the price of two tickets, you can actually own it!

This is just another urban legend that does not want to die.
This should really belong to moderators-are-you-reading-tour-own-website dept.

Let's hope that they do not repeat the killer robot incident
I don't know where you got these figures for the cost of the light bulb, but a 60W light bulb cost around 30$ per year!
Here in Quebec, the cost for the kiloWatts per hour is 0,068 $/kWh ($CAN)
0.06 kW X 24h X 365 = 525 kWh
525 X 0,068 $/kWh = 35.74 $
I am disapointed that the press release did not contained the usual "can transfert the total information of the library of congress in X sec" :)

Oh my God, they killed Clippy!
So, no free Taco then???
