  1. The elephant in the room on Senate Panel Backs Patent Overhaul Bill · · Score: 1

So the bill addresses the first to invent problem. Without addressing the major issue with the way prior art is defined at the moment. The scope of material examined with regards to prior art is way too narrow, which is a major (if not the biggest) reason for the ridiculous patents that are granted these days, even though you can point to something someone else has already brought to market that employs the same techniques and whatnot.

That makes this bill if not pointless then only a very tiny first step.

  5. Well. Yes. on Should Colleges Ban Classroom Laptop Use? · · Score: 1

Laptop use can be tremendously annoying at lectures. But it doesn't stop there - hearing about the girl sitting in fronts weekend plans or how wasted the group beside you got last night is equally distracting. Laptops can be just one more outlet for something irrelevant to the situation (when used for anything but taking notes obviously).

I think a better effect could be achieved by abolishing the mandatory attendance system. Let people bugger off if they dont want to pay attention anyway. It'll only come back to bite them in the ass come exam time. The way it is now they end up ruining lectures for both themselves and everyone around them.

"Where does Fascism (national socialism) fit into that model?"

Saywhatnow? National socialism and fascism are not interchangeable - the national socialist movements just happen to have operated in fascist ways in the past (and present).

Government regulation is not socialism either - to imply such, is to lay bare a complete lack of understanding for the various doctrines. Setting common parameters for economic activity is NOT the same as community ownership.

    Socialism:
"an economic theory or system in which the means of production, distribution, and exchange are owned by the community collectively, usually through the state. It is characterized by production for use rather than profit, by equality of individual wealth, by the absence of competitive economic activity, and, usually, by government determination of investment, prices, and production levels"

Am I alone in preferring single-player modes of most games? The only ever exception is really Diablo 2 and actual MMO's designed without single player modes. In the latter case I tend to play a lot on my own anyway, so technically all those other people dont matter.

All I really want from a game, is a good single player campaign, when I'm done with that, I usually just shelve it.
