    Without some real world authentication of some sort, every review site is subject to fake reviews.

    Entities have way more incentive to create (fake) reviews (positive for them, negative for competitors) than real customers do to create real ones. I believe its called economics.

    Interesting. I bet you also needed to employ some interesting storage techniques because of the cramped quarters.

    Reminds me of this scene.

    You bet correctly.

    For example, supplies like flour and lard came in tall rectangular "cans" (metal containers with a pry-off lid). We would strap those to the deckplates and then just walk on top of them.

    Like many inventions, it's obvious with hind-sight. But palettes also required improvements elsewhere, such as factory floors that were reasonably level and solid, capable of supporting stacked palettes, and eventually racking.

    Very true.

    "Humans passing things hand over hand" is actually a pretty cool "invention", when you think about it. Amazingly adaptable.

    We sure couldn't get pallets down the hatch of a submarine. Instead, everyone lined up, from the pier down to where we were stacking the cans.

    In China (and most east-asian cultures), you never disrespect rulers. It simply is not done, and they see it as a grave insult to the entire nation to do so.

    In west-european and north-american cultures, particularly the US, everyone is a fair target for mockery.

    Well, almost everyone is a fair target. The current occupant of the White House is only criticized or mocked by racists, we are told by the best and brightest.

    Of course, real gas stations don't give away free gas to customers who are willing to wait half an hour. If they did, that might cut down considerably on the number of people who were willing to pay $50 to fill up their tank in 3 minutes, and make the "steady line of customers" scenario less likely.

    Free transportation fuel is going to make the line of customers less steady?

    It's not like there's going to be a steady line of customers every 3 minutes waiting to swap.

    Because ... that doesn't happen at some real gas stations? Or because this is going to remain a boutique technology for showing off how rich and earth-friendly you are, so there won't be many customers?

    Really Why? what content on Slashdot justify's the need for encrypted content? I really don't get this huge push for SSL everywhere. give me SSL when I need it, I don't want SSL for accessing a forum or a news site or just generally browsing the web.

    Exactly. What's the benefit?

    There's a time and place for encryption, and Slashdot ain't it.

    You probably shouldn't want to influence the world. People who would say they "want to influence the world" generally lack the humility needed to avoid accidentally or recklessly making things worse for the world as a result of their influence.

    Every children's TV show or media outlet prattles on endlessly about "changing the world", but they are remarkably non-specific about "change it into what"?

    Wouldn't it have to be - and stay - perfectly aligned for this to work? And perfectly adjusted to the driver?

    Cars take a lot of punishment ... it's one thing for a headlight to be knocked a little out of alignment, but a video screen designed to make it look like the thing it is mounted on is invisible would require cameras to stay in near perfect alignment.
