Thing is, Adam's vision was fully implemented with Wikipedia + smartphones. Or Google, or some other combination of teh tubes . But any way you cut it H2G2 is a site for fan boys and not a really useful Guide - such Guides exist elsewhere. I'm all for fanboydom, but everyone's cutting budgets (my department has lost a prof and lots of grad student support); this seems a fairly inconsequential thing to lose.

Tut was buried in a cave, and so cave burial, with this chariot, is evidence of cultural change, not technological decline. I'm in Classics, not Egyptology, but I have never read that the Valley of the Kings was an indicator of a declining civilization.

I moved to Southern California a couple of years ago, and the pressure to conform (dress right, listen to the right music, have the right body - and attitude) is immense. I've never seen such a monolithic culture before. I wouldn't be surprised if miserable people were twittering happy thoughts because they don't want someone to think they aren't "chill." Admittedly this is at university, but I doubt it gets better in real life.

I'm a Classicist, and I don't care about math, but I sympathize with your point. Rumor is the Kindle doesn't display Greek well. This weekend I printed off 100 pages of mostly English articles and thought "this is ridiculous. I'll get a Kindle." But every page has Greek on it that can only be displayed well in PDF form (I've heard from Kindle owning friends). I also understand that PDFs don't allow the Kindle to do whatever nifty tricks it does. Until it supports Greek, I think I have to work with the dead trees.

The problem with putting slides online is it encourages students to skip lectures. Unless the instructor is posting a written version of his lecture, students only reviewing slides online will not benefit from any comments the instructor makes. Anyway slides should be a supplement and illustration of the lecture, rather than the lecture expounding the slides.
