For one thing, the theory of superconductors is not completely understood. The more different types of superconducters we make and study, then the more chance we have of understanding how superconductivity works.
So having some which work at low temperatures and normal pressures, and others which work at normal temperatures and high pressures makes it more likely that we can come up with a better theory, . This in turn should lead to better predictions, and facilitate moving towards normal pressure, normal temperature superconductors.
But surely in space, it's easier to keep something cool than to pressurise it ? If so, then this latest development wouldn't be of much use for that particular area.
Since you seem to know a little about it - how does the Higg's model explain the fact that gravitational mass == inertial mass ? Is there some link between the Higgs particle and the graviton ?
Unions said they fear that employees could be dismissed on the basis of a computer's assessment of their physiological state.
"Employee number 154372-D, we noticed you were feeling happy last Thursday at 11.37 am. You are clearly not working hard enough, and therefore we have no option but to terminate your employment here."
The Monopolist, of course. MS cut pdf support from Vista, and is using its own de-facto standard (xpdf or whatever). And Flash is/will be under attack from Silverlight, which the Monopolist will attempt to make ubiquitous.
Because you can patent an idea. Nothing to do with copying code (that would be copyrights). You can infringe a software patent without copying code, and without even realising it.
So why don`t they lobby the US government to get rid of software patents ? Why do they lobby in Europe and other places to try and get software patents accepted there ?
The obvious answer is that they benefit more from using their patents to shut down competition than they lose from paying the odd multimillion dollar fine.
Well, in theory a superconducter should generate zero heat. Provided you keep it shielded from the sun, I don't see any reason for it to get warm.

I tried it, but all I could see was the Blue Sky of Death !
No, but if you map out all of the dark matter, it forms the words "We apologise for the inconvenience".

Then rejoice ! The next major release of GIMP will be based on GEGL, which provides native 32bit floating point RGBA.
Methinks you have been looking at the goatse page one time too many...
Uh, no. If you have a black hole, the last thing you want to do is feed it.

No, the bug is still there, but they built a whole new operating system around it.
Just imagine...a Beowulf cluster of shopping carts !
...welcome our jet-shooting-black-hole overlords.
(Well, somebody had to say it...).
So why not use GTK+ ? You don't have to use QT to write an app that runs under KDE.
Exactly. Considering how much we have to pay for Gimp, it's surprising they can't hire more professional web designers.

I have an excuse, I'm using a foreign keyboard, and what's marked on some keys isn't always what appears.
But just for you I'm taking your advice.
I don`t believe in using so-called "browsers", I download the html source of every site I visit, and then render it in my head.
I guess I won`t be visiting this law firm`s website any time soon.
You know the really big room with the green floor and the blue ceiling ? The "sun" is apparently the big light in it that gets switched off at night.

That`s what makes software patents so dangerous.

I damn well hope not.
Wireless. More space than a Nomad. Buy one and help fund Microsoft`s attacks on Free Software.
Since part of the law prohibits telling anyone that you have had to hand over the keys, how can you be sure about that ?
He seems to have omitted SCO ME. I wonder why ?
