    Well, in theory a superconducter should generate zero heat. Provided you keep it shielded from the sun, I don't see any reason for it to get warm.

    For one thing, the theory of superconductors is not completely understood. The more different types of superconducters we make and study, then the more chance we have of understanding how superconductivity works.

    So having some which work at low temperatures and normal pressures, and others which work at normal temperatures and high pressures makes it more likely that we can come up with a better theory,
    . This in turn should lead to better predictions, and facilitate moving towards normal pressure, normal temperature superconductors.

    But surely in space, it's easier to keep something cool than to pressurise it ? If so, then this latest development wouldn't be of much use for that particular area.

    Since you seem to know a little about it - how does the Higg's model explain the fact that gravitational mass == inertial mass ? Is there some link between the Higgs particle and the graviton ?

    The Monopolist, of course. MS cut pdf support from Vista, and is using its own de-facto standard (xpdf or whatever). And Flash is/will be under attack from Silverlight, which the Monopolist will attempt to make ubiquitous.

    I don`t believe in using so-called "browsers", I download the html source of every site I visit, and then render it in my head.

    I guess I won`t be visiting this law firm`s website any time soon.

    Because you can patent an idea. Nothing to do with copying code (that would be copyrights). You can infringe a software patent without copying code, and without even realising it.

    That`s what makes software patents so dangerous.

    So why don`t they lobby the US government to get rid of software patents ? Why do they lobby in Europe and other places to try and get software patents accepted there ?

    The obvious answer is that they benefit more from using their patents to shut down competition than they lose from paying the odd multimillion dollar fine.

    Since part of the law prohibits telling anyone that you have had to hand over the keys, how can you be sure about that ?
