    If the gov't uses Microsoft word, wouldn't it be an issue of national security for Microsoft to stop selling Word? Thus, the gov't might step in at some point and void this decision.

    Surely that would require no significant amount of resources to be tapped. Maybe just an area the size of Australia? Not sure about that though. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

    The hard part is getting a program that's not meant to be parallelized, parallelized. You may have been working on a program that can be broken into discrete chunks easily. Threads are a performance hack and people are trying to squeeze that last bit of performance out.

    The arguments for the existence of file sharing usually consist of saying that you can't sell the actual software anymore, but, you can sell support contracts & goodies. Although, it seems that if people don't need support, they won't buy it. And then, it seems that when people can download something for free or buy it, sometimes they'll pay for it.

    That's absolutely right. People aren't even allowed to visit the Whitehouse anymore. And if you walk too close, you'll probably be called a terrorist, picked up and thrown away. (Either that or shot.) You can't send an email or a letter to the government either. Most senators ignore these things because they get so many of them now.

    Well, if it mentions Microsoft it probably at least has something to do with Microsoft. In fact, I believe that everything that mentions Microsoft has something to do with Microsoft. Everyone has something to do with Microsoft as it is. Even your mother. I challenge you to find a quote that mentions Microsoft but has absolutely nothing to do with Microsoft.
