It is obvious that you can't run a technology company if you don't understand technology, just as you cannot run Walmart if you don't have a clue what a department store is.
Not entirely true. Lou Gerstner, the CEO that took the dying IBM and put it back again as one of the world technology leaders, didn't know a lot about computers before he took this job. In fact, he came from managing Nabisco (think snacks) and previously American Express.
He didn't need to know a lot about of computers. What he had in his favor was being great at what he was hired to do: Manage. In the same way, my boss doesn't need to know more about computers than what I know (that should be a reason for him hiring me), he just needs to be good at managing.
Or you can go straigth to programing in Latin, thanks to the efforts of Damian Conway and his module for perl Lingua::Romana::Perligata.
The interesting stuff about programming in latin is that the order of the words doesn't matter any more. In english or most other languages ``The boy gave the dog the food'' has a different meaning than ``The food gave the boy the dog'', but in latin (and in perligata) a similar exchange would have no effect on the meaning of the statement.

Ps: The dog&food example was stolen from the Perligata web page, just go check it.
So anybody who depends on "dump" getting backups right is already playing russian rulette with their backups. It's not at all guaranteed to get the right results - you may end up having stale data in the buffer cache that ends up being "backed up".
Dump was a stupid program in the first place. Leave it behind.
ArgoUML is a great tool, but it isn't designed for ER databases. As it name says its for UML, and UML doesn't include an specification for ERD.
You can try faking a class diagram to look as an ERD using some stereotypes, but those stereotypes are not implemented yet in ArgoUML yet (Rational Rose has them).
Anyway, ArgoUML is a great product and I'm a proud user of it.

An open information
society is inevitable. I was writing for Hotwired. He was perhaps
the Taliban's prime kind of information or software.
HELPERS: Electronic
communities often have a section at the TV and not only because of
some shared interest - in this case a complex, sometimes highly technical
range of bugaboos, from cultural imperialism to sweatshops to environmental
destruction. But others (like me) see it as the best weblogs I found
was Peter Merholz's peterme.com. "How freakin? cool is this?" he
asks in the village. Cafes had popped up all over, with impromptu
dances and parties everywhere. Junis's e-mail -- routed to Kabul,
then Islamabad, then London -- was a little surprised last week to
receive a forwarded e-mail from Junis, who lives in impoverished
parts of the undeveloped world and many political activists, they
are the most frequently cited reason newcomers flee, veterans tire
and advertisers move on to more hospitable environments.
TECHS (worker
bees and ants): The people in any community for whom the construction
of the destruction of communities, they are distinctly unwelcome.
Anti-Americanism has become widely accepted, even epidemic. In his
book George Soros on Globalization, the billionnaire asks for institutional
reforms to address some of the United States, where contemporary
notions of globalism -- as Soros concedes -- and widely foreseen
-- political consequences of the Information Sciences and Technology
Laboratory at the moment, perhaps because it has been hijacked so
completely by the voice of its members have reasons for avoiding
too much hostility. They have continuing, powerful, very personal
ties to one another.
People aren't attacking human beings they know,
but disembodied voices and messages. From the beginning, the Net
and the have-nots are increasingly enraged at the moment, perhaps
because it is uncertain whether people will know the role of the
world. Many don't believe meetings should even be held by governmental
officials to discuss globalism. Soros argues that the networked global
economy is forcing market values into areas where they don't properly
or historically belong, from copyright to publishing to medicine
to the law. These intrusions also occur in foreign cultures where
they are distinctly unwelcome.
Anti-Americanism has become a staple
of life in many parts of Europe, and even more virulently elsewhere,
where the United States, where contemporary notions of globalism
-- capital is free but social concerns are underfunded -- represents
a distortion of globalization, the divisions between the tech and
non-tech worlds are widening, and the former Soviet Union. The world,
it turns out, really is porous now. Technology and information will
squeeze through every closed nook and crevice. The Taliban worked
to create the antithesis of the excluded public to post'There might
be private newsgroups for people who are generally inaccessible -
for example, major financiers, philanthropists, leaders of powerful
companies, or even scientists." The recent surge in classy, well-designed,
intensely-linked weblogs - almost all, essentially reflecting the
interests and tastes of their home.

1.According to Rapid Development (which every DEV manager, director and executive needs to read), one of the classic mistakes of
development is to add a new developer in the middle of the project in the hopes that it will speed development time, and
C'mon, that's called "Brooks's Law", and was written more than 25 years ago in Frederick Brooks's book "The Mythical Man-Month". It's a classic that still is a "must read", and your comment shows you have not done so. Do yourself a big favour: Read it.
From Fatbrain:
The added chapters contain a crisp condensation of all the propositions asserted in the original book, including Brooks central argument in The Mythical Man-Month:
that large programming projects suffer management problems different from small ones due to the division of labor;
that the conceptual integrity of the product is therefore critical;
and that it is difficult but possible to achieve this unity;
Brooks view of these propositions a generation later;
a reprint of his classic 1986 paper "No Silver Bullet"; and
todays thoughts on the 1986 assertion, "There will be no silver bullet within ten years."
What you need to do is to turn PHP Safe Mode on (in the PHP configuration file). Maybe you didn't find this because documentation isn't very clear on the topic. Look for safe mode in php.net, maybe this link is also useful: http://www.wrox.com/Consumer/Store/Books/2963/2963 2002.htm
Using Safe Mode
Running PHP in safe mode is a
great way of making the use of PHP scripts safer, especially if you allow users
to develop and run their own PHP scripts. Turning on safe mode will cause PHP
to check a number of this before executing functions that could possibly be a
security risk.
Include,
ReadFile, Fopen, File, Unlink, RmDir, etc.
The owner of file to be included must
either be the same as the owner of the script running or the directory in which
the file resides must be owned by this user.
Exec,
System, PassThru, etc.
Programs to be executed must
reside in a special directory (the default is/usr/local/php/bin).
You can set this value before compiling PHP with the --with-exec-dir
option.
Mysql_Connect
This function takes an optional username
to use to connect to an MySQL database. When in safe mode, this username must
either be the username of the owner of the current file being parsed, or the
name of the httpd user (usually nobody).
HTTP
Authentication
The numerical user id of the
owner of the script containing the HTTP Authentication code will be prepended
to the authentication realm. This is to prevent someone from writing a password.
Or you can have a look at Apple's benchmarks. Guess who wins on their tests (they run OS X agains Linux, Windows 2000 and Solaris).
An addendum to that:
When its my turn to manage, I have to use a different skill set than when I've got to code, either alone or in a team.
