There are several mechanism for DNA repair. DNA polymerase has proof-reading function built-it. Nucleases are used to remove foreing DNA. All know mechanism till now used the other DNA strand as template for repair. What is new now, is that this new feature works EVEN when both sequences are mutated, because the missing info could be encoded in a RNA.
DISCLAIMER: Didn read the original Nature article, just read a summary at new scientist, so this could be wrong:)
It is called MDQ55 (another dealer call it "Fuel Shock"), it is a magnetic tube you put in a specific place on the engine and you will save gas. It "works" by aligning particles before entering in the combustion chamber. You should save up to 30% of fuel. Here is a report (in Spanish) about this fraudulent stuff: mdq55 (PDF). I wonder if it is only an Argentiean scam or it is worldwide.
I live in Alaska where the cost of living is astronomical and broadband can be had for $35 a month
Alaska is part of the US, so you have a US-price. It dosn't matter really much how geographically innacesible the spot is. In 3th world countries like mine, calling to Chile or Brazil (very close to us) is more expensive than calling to the US, because it seems some data is routed to a US based firm first. In rural Argentina, you can easily reach that "4 figures USD for the first year" and more if you take into account setup costs.
This may seems OT, I am not sure. But IBM sponsored a contest in Sourceforge (with iPODs as prices). It was supposed to announce winners Feb 18 but I still don know what happened. My JAVA-fu were good according to IBM, but I still didn got any notification about who won. BTW, I didn need to code JAVA at all, just use a IBM tutorial-game as example and soved without programing:)
Sorry for the mistake. You are right, Tabare, Lula, Oviedo and Kirschner will push against MS. But I still not sure if they will do it expecting to get a nice "return" from MS or they really care about it.
If you want to succesfully enter in southamercan market, you must put you product both in Portuguese and Spanish. For example, DirectTV has channels in bothlanguages. Brasil is by far the biggest and richer country in the region, but it is the only one where portuguese is spoken, all the rest of the countries in southamerca, the official and onlye spoken language is Spanish. (there are some native people who speak also Quecha in countries like Uruguay but they are a minory).
Conectiva have offices and clients in Southamerica, so the gained presence in this region. In Argentina Connectiva was very big because they were the first to market a commercial linux in Spanish as default language. Then they closed offices in Buenos Aires and people migrated to other linuces that also had Spanish version (almost all of them now!). But they are still strong in Brasil.
You need to get a result to be considered science. Applying scientifi method is not enought (but is neccesary) Parapsicology applies scientific method but it doesn't get any positive result, there is no proof of telekinesis, precognition, etc.
I slip all grades since I got my Commodore way back to the '85, but at least I learned computing enought to make a living, thanks to that. So I have mixed feeling about "let'em play at the computer" or "send them to their house to study".
At least the ban for inet cafe close to elementary school. In Argentina we have a similar situation, there are a lot of inet cafes because hardware is very expensive since peso devaluation and Internet conection is also expensive. Most inet cafes are used to chat using MSN and IRC and playing FPSMPG (like Counter Strike), so boys hang around for hours there instead of studying. It is very cheap, because there are a lot of inet cafes, it cost about 0.35$/hour, that is cheap even for us. Boys mostly plays and some MSN, and girls go just to chat via MSN. I am giving a basic computer course in an elementary school (9 to 12 years old) and they are asking me to teach them just to chat, even before learning how to type!
I don understand why legal cases cost so much in the US. Who much does an attorney make for year? How many attorneys are needed for a trial like this? Doesn't you have the right for a free (paid by gov') layer in the US? If you know you are right, what would be the problem with litigation, since the looser pays expenses?
There was a Pac Man board game. Pacman eats withe marbles and a maze painted on the board. I bought at ebay but left it in an ex-g/f house:( Here is one in ebay.
GSM can reach up to 112Kbps, so is up to 2X dial-up. I used that in Argentina, the notebook connected to the GSM enabled phone using the IR port. Nice, and somewhat expensive. But in some areas, there are no more choices.
Even if the money don't have braille on it, in some countries it has little circle or square printed in relief. It works in new bills, most bills are so wear out the the relief can't be felt.
NO. RMS recommended distro is Ututo-e, from ARGENTINA!. Look at this article (in Spanish, sorry). You could even find Ututo-e in FSF FTP server. The e in Ututo stands for Desktop (in Spanish).
From TFA "a hybrid creature that's part human, part animal". All human are animals, so we are all chimeras:) I am pretty sure this is a dupe from last year. If not, the matrix was changed.
WTH is PSP?
Congrats her!. Could you please send me a reprint? (or the PDF).
My email is sbassi AT gmail
thx!
That is called reversion (and bacteria who revert a mutated gene are called revertants). I guess researchers should have rule that out.

When I tried to log into my gmail accout at the begining of the beta program, I got a Debian welcome screen.
Posted in my blog.

Will GPG follow it? should they do it?

Last week black box project (or global conscientious), now the "six sense", shouldn't a PSEUDOSCIENCIE icon needed in Slashdot?

Actually 2 questions:
1- Will ever slashdoters will be able to interview Bill Gates?
2- Why MSN were sending malformed HTML only to Opera browser?

Virtuozzo cost 4000$ and each VM cost around 20$. They don't publish their price in the SW-Soft page (guess why!).
