I believe prison should be a reformative experience, but I also believe it's simply unrealistic to expect shitbags like this guy to do anything but be shanked.
Carmack has always seemed to be more keen on working with the interesting problems.
On a random note, what made you lump Bioware in with Steam and Blizzard? They've bungled the distribution of Mass Effect and Dragon age both, having wacky bugs pop up for one or more distribution method whether EAstore, Steam, or DVD.
The real question is how many of these alternate options would be entirely populated by porn sites named after popular websites.
Facebook of Sex, indeed.
If the man gets a cold it will be considered political retribution, and the media will spin out stories speculating upon which world power could possibly have stuck him with their dreadful biological weapon. Beyond that, as I understand it he's little more than a face for the organization to throw up in newspapers. Doesn't seem to be any purpose to "disappearing" him, beyond the intimidation.
Learning to meet the needs of an expanding population is necessary whether or not we succeed in lengthening our lives, We can only hope that a larger population leaves us with more innovators and drive to improve the incredibly wasteful distribution systems we currently use.
I respect those who can face death with grace, and hope that when my time comes I am able to be so clear headed. However,I cannot agree that being remembered is anything like living. I believe we as a species would be greatly served just by slowing the loss of knowledge that old age and death bring.
Not all of us specificly seek out experience. Quite a few of us would love to quietly live, absorbing information and learning as we see the world change. On a related note, I think the whole " But if you could live forever, you'd never be able to die and end it" argument is silly. Unless we are immortal by means of wizardry, there will always be a way to end it:P
As a Canadian I'd like to point out something you may not yet be privy to: The CBC is awful. Also, Canada has content broadcasting restrictions, requiring X% of broadcast content to be "Canadian", it's always been a kinda goofy requirement, and I wouldn't be shocked to find out that mentions of Canadian contributions to worldwide projects are included in their quota.:P Either way, ridiculous indeed.
How much from outside the US do you get on the six o'clock news?
This is just an example of a Canadian news source pointing out Canadian contribution in a major project, to Canadians. That said, there was no reason to include it in the submission.
Because the story uses the CBC as a source.
Honestly, this could be a whole new way to include ourselves in the news:
"Kuwait Not Banning DSLR Cameras After All, According to Canadians "
I've got one with a dead DVD drive, and a friend that's offered me the corpse of another with a dead...something else, he insists it's the ASIC.
Anyhow, I've not cared enough to go get a new one but now that they're doing this crap part of me wants to try and Frankenstein them together just so I have a platform to piss them off with.
And some bags of garbage would commit murder because the money was easier than working at FedEx.

Other than the transaction at Wal-Mart? :p
I think if you calm down and poke around the site you'll see that the number of talks that consist only of a speaker pacing on stage is pretty slim.
Your post reminded me of a talk I'd seen on TED.com recently. It's a little goofy, but I think he has the right idea. http://www.ted.com/talks/jason_fried_why_work_doesn_t_happen_at_work.html

Trackball?
Actually he and his wife have given a couple talks at TED (TED.com) about the foundation he and his wife have setup.
http://www.ted.com/speakers/bill_gates.html and http://www.ted.com/speakers/melinda_french_gates.html for reference.
Clearly you didn't see the genius of his plan, once he gets Gates pregnant: BAM.

"Thanks, I just had it stuffed!"

OR: Alter the terms of your mortality, allowing exploration and one day understanding of the larger universe around you.
So you believe age drives us to evil? That's... pretty dark. Didn't have a good relationship with grandma? :X

Yeah, we all knew the BBB and co are useless, but it was a little shocking to hear about such terrible service from the costumers bank.

Have you noticed any surfaces becoming more coarse and perhaps bloated with age?
What about this guy doesn't strike you as gloriously geeky?
My country and it's government has about as much right to decide for me that porn is immoral as it does to decide music is immoral.
