  1. Why Apple went to Intel on Next-Gen Console CPUs Not Up to Hype · · Score: 2, Insightful

This is a large reason why Apple went to Intel. The lastest Powerpc chips have been sucking up the devs at IBM and they were not working on the G4 and G5. The cell chips are more made for imbedded and set top markets and plain old suck on the desktop. The G4 1.33 is about as fast for normal FPU tasks as the cell. The great graphic capabilities of these processors are not going to be used for 99% of all apps, even things like Photoshop, so the PPC is somewhat of a dead end for the desktop market.

I collect old transistor radios and most of them pick up AM with only three transistors. All that happened here was you have an FCC class B or C device that gives off radio waves (computer) and a lead on the board picks it up. What are transistors used for? Amplfying signals. You have 10 swiches and transistors. The switches turn on and off. After a while, you will come up with a circuit that acts as an amplifier off a RF signal. The idea that it uses 10 transistors just means that it is a more comlext circuit than a regular AM radio circuit. If you have your computer case off, and have a very sensitve AM radio near by, you can hear the computer parts "working" there is even music made from the RF sounds from a computer. AM radio stands for Amplitude Modulation. What is an AM radio wave if you look at it? It is a sine wave. I don't see the big deal about it, especially when they were looking for a way to generate a sine wave.
Wake me up when the circuit starts doing math.

Add another 25 years to that, and vola! the origional programmers would be in their late 70s and early 80s. That is the average life expectancy of a person. The same with radio, there used to be quite a few good local news stations and now there are none. (other than NPR) Also Music stations are dimishing very quickly. Broadcast TV news is no longer any good, and (remember Walter Cronkite (sp?) and David Brinkly and Chet Huntly) and the top story in today's newspaper was Concert attendace at the county Fair and not China Getting the 2008 olimpics (that was on page 8) I just think that corperate interersts have gotten too out of hand. Apple's iTools Web service has been updated to support extra iDisk space (available at $1 per MB per year), numerous new Mac.com email features, an expanded database of Kid-Safe sites, and expanded Mac.com Home Page features.
Apple has announced the immediate availability of two dual-processor PowerMac G4s at 450 and 500MHz, with the low-end model sporting a single 450MHz processor. All three models will sport 1,000BaseT (Gigabit) Ethernet built-in.

$799 "Indigo" 350MHz/64MB/7.5GB model -- but this entry-level unit will not be available until September. Other specs and the motherboard chipset are the same as the previous models.
iMovie 2 has been demonstrated. It will support an unlimited number of source video clips, a new user interface and numerous other new features, and will be bundled on all Firewire-equipped desktop Macs for free. A stand-alone version will be downloadable over the Internet for $50. Bungie and Microsoft reps came up on stage to announce that not only will Bungie's Halo come out for the Mac, but Microsoft is working to port all of its games to the platform! "But there's one last thing...." Here it comes. :-)
You guessed it...the PowerMacintosh G4 Cube (see it on Apple.com!). Fanless, with a well-concealed sloat-loading DVD-ROM drive (on top of the box!), 450MHz ($1799) and 500MHz ($2299) versions will be available soon. The 500MHz model will apparently be available only through the Apple Store. Similar to predictions, the measurements of the Cube are 7.7x7.7x9.8 inches.
Several new monitors were introduced. All are powered by the computer, and sport a single connection that carries power, DVI, and USB to reduce cable count. The new models include a 17" flat CRT for $499, a revamped 15" Flat Panel Studio Display for $999, and a revamped Cinema Display 22" that supports the new single-cable system.
The surprise of Apple positioning the Cube not below the full-size PowerMac G4, but above (despite its lesser price/performance) clearly shows Apple's desire to latch on to the current trend of accelerating high-end and lagging low-end sales.
