I'd never heard of this, but after some reading: Wireless over modems it's out there, and well supported. I can see it being a less touchy solution in that it's old school analog, but 40 miles? THat's hard to believe.
of all the Seinfeld quotes, that's one of my favs. I feel bad sometimes using it at work, I feel as if I should stick to the Office space ones, but every now and then you need to get a little crazy.
Flying The Vomit Comet Has Its Ups And Downs. NOTE: article deserves props for it's title alone, but it's also very revealing about what getting to Zero G is like. Not sure if I'd want to do it, but it must be a crazy feeling.
but with the discressionary income of allot of americans, I could see this as being a business. it's like going on a roller coaster, but with more of the wow factor!;)
ah, right you are. So he still may be able to do this in a test env, but if it's not supported, it'll be a hard sell to use in production. My exampled just showed what I do, while there's no "support" I get plenty of "support" via formus, mailinglists and IRC if/when I need it. Doing this in a test env might be cool/fun, but doesn't sound like it would lead to a newly supported platform.
make a sandbox running Deb on your network to start showing them what it can do. this is what I did at my work, and it worked. Currently CVS and the Build machine are running my Linux distro of choice; Gentoo, for mainly the same reasons you mention.
RHCE's aren't going to do what we can do with *our* distro's, it's more than just LInux to us.
I'll agree with you, as I always thought it was silly, time in an OSX translucent term got me hooked! to be able to work in the CLI while looking at some code in Moz (through the term) was actually useful!
here my doubts would be why would they only take pics while it was still in its box? take it out, set it up the way it should be, then snap some shots. seems suspect, plus it's gray, not the candy coloured lighted thingy we're expecting. perhaps it looks diff on, and again, why not power it up if it's real?
new laws need to cover this kind of disruption, it's a thief pure and simple. also companies should focus more money on new technology and hire people that know their stuff and can keep the servers up and running. then perhaps these wacko 'guns for hire' won't be available.
I equate the 'digital divide' with computers; not the internet. give computers, let them learn them as we have, and all other things; social programs, food, education, justice, would(could?) follow. regardless, they'll have tools, and the knowledge to use them. how successful they are with them is offtopic.
remember, teach a man to fish and he'll eat for a lifetime.
let me say this, Ceren ain't all that, and I'm tired of seeing quotes saying that she is. just because she prances around geek conventions with annoying outfits on doesn't make her pretty; in fact, she's pretty damn annoying ugly if you ask me, but I only bring that up in defense of common sense. now go out and meet a real girl, regardless of if she needs a hair style (Ceren), needs a visit to TLC's "What not to wear" (Ceren) and needs a shrink to tell her what's missing in her life to have to try to be something she isn't (Ceren).
In closing, F Ceren and the horse she rode in on. Thank you.
to make a level playing field for all to participate on the Internet, we must defeat the "digital divide". I think with good geeks like this, armed with a bevy of OSS, this will be accomplished.

as a build mananger I just implemented Cruisecontrol on the job this week. it's awesome, no more going to do the build and getting a ton or errors, now if there's an error emails get sent to me, the project manager, and the dev responsible. it's a very nice tool. adding lights to the mix sounds trivial, but hey, if it makes work more fun, why not.
or the terrorists will post some inane article about some freak who got Linux running on his toaster, then mirror the link using tinyurl to slashdot the entire internet! we'll have to all go out for a walk in the sunshine! damn you terrorists!
looks like IBM may have the key to clearing up all this SCO stuff...who'd have thought? Oh well, we all knew that superior technology would eventually win (or at least survive:))

this has to be slander, or racketeering or something. you can't make accusations and then NEVER back them up! how has this stood so long?
fortunately I haven't read much about it in mainstream news much recently.

great comment, thanks for making it. by chance today I did an 'emerge mplayer' on my iBook running Gentoo, and yep, it installed/worked pefectly.
