    ok statments like that tick me off its a silly thing to say

    if your route is long then the chances are that along the way you will have a bottleneck and when you go across water it gets worse as all the repeaters get in on the act

    saying things like " internet comes through at the same bandwidth" is plain silly

    they go round scaring people... have you seen those adverts ?

    in order to get cash and donated air space they have to be seen to be doing something
    I mean how hard is it to patch ?
    really if your system is secure its sure as hell not connected to the outside world and you dont have a mail server running on your network that has a gateway to the outside world

    its simple U.S. people if you want to go after dictators and people that abuse Human rights how about pakistan and china ?

    stop spreading FUD !

    they quit because they where asked to disclose any patents they held that where related to OpenGL 2.0

    if they had said "we have these patents and you guys can use them after all thats what OpenGL is about we used SGI patents for years in NT" they people sould ship OpenGL 2 with no problems

    or "we dont have any patents covering OpenGL" then peoplle could ship OpenGL 2 and if Microsoft turned around latter and said we have patents and we want money then everyone would have told them to go whistle as they did not declare at discovery

    this looks like RAMBUS and JEDEC all over again

    what does this mean for OpenGL ?

    well everyone else has a few patents OpenGL was a way of combining they wealth

    what is needed is a BIG stick to beat MS into line now I would say that SONY are the only people who could really benefit from OpenGL 2.0 and have a big enough stick and dont want MS in the living room (wich is where they are heading with tablets and HDdisc recorders )

    PS2 Graphics interface sucked if they really would like to make it nice they would implement OpenGL 2.0 clean (no legacy stuff) and stick with the SPU2 this would make people kill the X BOX for sure and get back the living room for SONY

    otherwise watch out

    nice that DNA was discovered while stareing at Xrays now software does a good job

    info: sanger center Cambridge was one of the centers that they helped sequence human DNA

    why ? Because of the ability to patent squences of DNA
    (that drug companies get rich off) they had to do it before evil companies did like Celera Genomics who used a more inactuate method (shotgun) but evily patented it

    welcome trust is a huge Charity that funds research in this area

    ptenting DNA is silly these are naturally occuring things (squences) they where not created just discovered its all very silly

    Cuba and alot of africa are starting not to recognise these patents as they would like to build the drugs that help AIDS and HIV

    its sad that AIDS and HIV has to come along just to show the world that patents are stupid on DNA

    anyway

    IBM has now started selling theirs with a intel linux box as the terminal

    there are alot of modules in the winnt build have you seen the amount of drivers ?

    the core is small but does not get you very much infact you cant even get a console without the debugger so it's all pretty meaningless

    the NT kernel is a microkernel much like the mach kernel in MacOS 10.x and unlike the linux or BSD kernels conceptually

    one of the nice things that I learnt was that they check it builds on alpha - with MS compilers
    and x86-64 now that there is dev platform and not just an emulator - amd silly compiler
    and IA64 - built with intel compilers
    and another 64bit platform which they would not speak about (-;

    no they where lucky to get a testing/build team aka "black team" let alone security

    the security policy is borrowed from unix if I had a penny every time I heard marketing say "it starts on the File system and works up, allowing your workgroup to see your files"

    I would not be rich but it would make it worth it

    god I hate PPC infact I nearly hate it as much as x86 but...

    now ARM a nice little design there is the same deal but with a ARM that altera do and see www
    and MIPS have been doing a dev board with a hard and soft core mix for a while

    well you never guess they ALL come with GNU tools and as they use standard arch that linux is already ported to

    really what you want to get into is a CPU on a FPGA and one that you dont have to pay a licence for this is what opencores.org is about and credit to them flextronics have started looking at it for a solution see

    late I dont think so

    even MS will admit that they cant get people to move from NT to XP or 2k

    this is right on time ! because people will start to find NT is no longer supported by MS and move what they move to might just not be Microsoft based because its too expensive hence samba TNG

    but what I want to know is this

    can samba-TNG be a real PDC and comunicate to a NT BDC all the information such as the userlist AND when it falls over and comes back up (system maintenance) take back the PDC status and any changes from the BDC ?

    acting as a PDC and syncing with a NT BDC is what SAMBA really lacks IMHO

    ok

    if they look at this as a file server
    you need to have redundant power supplies no if's not buts
    and a hell of a better SMB performace because currently its awful when compared to a netapp and not much better than a PC with samba + other services. also no iSCSI or any software to do a SAN

    if they look at this as a Database server
    you need to have raw IO so that you can let the DB do the scheduling

    the only market wich they can do is the app server they can do Web Objects and all J2EE app servers they lack the ASP angle that SUN have but hey not a major one (-;

    I dont see where they aim this

    personally I would send them to Wasabi to get hold of some iSCSI stuff and pray that the file server people dont research to much

    Already, specialized 64-bit chips have taken over the computer game industry--Nintendo 64 and Sony's PlayStation2 both use versions of IBM's so-called Power chips.

    WRONG both are MIPS cpus and the sony chip has 128 bit instuctions as well if you want to get picky

    not a really taxing idea (transmeta intel MOT and IBM all do the same in various ways)

    yes I agree with you infact this has been the major source of kernel panics on MacOS X that I have seen as mac people just dont understand the whole swap thing

    really its a bad comparison but if you tuned them file I/O on linux would be much faster simply because of the filesystem

    not too sure how the mach kernel in MacOS does the Unix Lites either so that would have impacted performance

    ah well what matters is functionality and they are about equal in my eyes with MacOS winning the desktop and linux the server

    ok basically you cant drive while holding onto your phone

    simple

    you can use handsfree kits to drive and talk and most handsfree kits will start useing bluetooth so this story is totally bogus

    the nice thing about bluetooth is that you can have the handfree kit built into the car and all you have to do is carry the phone in the car and it attachs without any wires in a standard way

    now tell me bluetooth does that connect hands free kit to your phone ?

    oh for gods sake people

    its just a x86 laptop with a touchscreen = open

    the funkyness that they all rave about is the ability to doodle all over the screen and so the software

    the real deal is if they put wince on a strongARM and use RDP + 802.11b to get to the x86 on your desk

    that would be fun because of the battery life and the fact that ARM is well supported in linux 2.4/2.5

    X11 term's on everyones laps
    (now that would be cool)

    what are you trying to deliver ?

    I built a app that for win32 sat in the systray and then looked at a internal FTP and checked the manifest against its own on the machine if anything was new download and ask the user for interaction

    on the java side their was webstart which is really nice and is default on MacOS X.x
    this automatcally does what my app did and is a hell of a lot nice and secure

    apps like windows update are pretty silly as you have to ask the user to look every day and how many lusers do that ? let alone people who know better

    its what crontabs where ment for (-;
    of course you can build it into the app

    and if you just want to deliver software to customers use sftp

    its nice and you can even get it on a java applet so that you can point people to a web page and get them to enter username and password and then its server side chrooting them to the right dir

    they have a founder

    but dont really have a identity just a attitude
    it nearly brought it to its knees because the management was dual throughout the company technical and business

    job's is not a computer freak he hardly knows how mice work but yet appears to know and thats all that matters to the crowd

    really the only companies that I admire are MIPS IBM Mitsubishi ICI and ARM

    basically this was Hitachi trying to get into the same market as ARM with the SH7727 they made a decent chip

    but SH can be 64bit and do numbers right ieee754 that would have been nice

    this is a Nice SOC in the way StrongARM was nice so give them a chance

    basically you can set snapshots for hourly minutes or whatever but you have to be careful about space

    add to that their are alot of people who say yeah I cant spell I must be dyslexic when infact they just cant spell because they never bothered to try and learn
