It is not more qualified, generally it is cheaper. I know of one company that hired people H1B and paying them $2400/month and putting in 10 hour days. The owner of the company said that that is the top pay that they pay there, based on this woman being the highest paid employee. I have dealt with H1B people who were not very qualified.

Not to say that some H1Bs are not more qualified, but many are not really more qualified. Many employers put in fake advertising, or fake job requirements (ie. in 1997 requiring at least 5 years of Win98 programming). Or they advertise for people with a skill set thayt they don't require, ie. C/C++, Windows, Palm OS, Apple DOS, CP/M, RSTS/e, VM/370, SPSS, Basic, Snobol, Lisp, Perl, and Linux, but they are hiring someone to install linux on PCs. Then the employer claim that they cannot find a qualified person.

Once the H1B is applied for, the H1B must stay at the employer for a period of time. Meaning, they are stuck.

Why else would anyone want to record music except to make illegal copies. Why would anyone sing except to
perform copyrighted music instead of buying the CD, except to take illegal advantage of it. I think the RIAA should sue anyone who sings music.

  16. What about speed? on A Look at Data Compression · · Score: 1

It is not only the space, but also the speed. Once the data is compressed, backing up the compressed data takes less time. If you compress, then backup you have to compare the compression time to the transfer time. Now, if you compress once, then backup, then copy the backup you now compare the compression time to 2X of the transfer time.

Outside of the pure speed issue, what media swapping? Once you exceed the media capacity (I'm talking removable media), the media needs to be swapped which not only takes time, but most like requires human interaction. If you have a 30GB tape, but you have a 40GB to backup, tape need to be swapped. This eliminates the "start the backup, go home" backup process.

The FTC is taking the position that if the end user does not see the spam, then the law is successful. That filtering is part of the solution, and the filtering stops the spam, so therefore it is successful.

Of course, this is the wrong position to take.

I'd suggest contacting our reps, make a pain in the ass of ourselfs until they add a labeling requirement of "ADV:" at the start of the subject line for spam.
