Also, remember, the first Apollo missions were unmanned. They sent an unmanned probe further than they sent their first manned mission. Add onto that the fact that when they DID send people up, they didn't send idiots up. On the topic of Mars, we've already landed there, but there's generally been no reason to return those probes so it's not been planned for.
We KNOW we can get there, the next stage towards a manned mission will be figuring a way of getting them off the surface and back again. If that means drilling then that adds a whole mess of untested unknowns to work through
Drilling on Mars is going to be atleast as complex as drilling on Earth and will require more than just the pilot/scientist crew dynamic we're used to in space. For the first time you'd need someone who knows how to handle heavy machinery, since, even when Mars is closest, signals will take 3 minutes to reach them, so you need a specialist on hand in case the shit hits the fan. You'll also need to lug the machinery up there too, and land it. The biggest single piece of machinery we've landed so far has been the LEM + Moon Buggy. A Drill would be ALOT bigger. It would take ALOT Longer to set up too, and would require a degree of self-sufficiency and a factor of safety in their provisions incase of an accident that may prolong their stay.
And I'm not even an expert. There's bound to be loads of things I've not thought of that needs to be tried and tested before we even think of sending someone to Mars.
The Astronauts took a risk going to the moon. Hell, it's a risk every time they strap themselves to the gigantic firework built by the lowest bidder. I know I couldn't do it.
what about that bit of the article that lists Apples complaints?
Hardware and software trade dress claims
a rectangular product shape with all four corners uniformly rounded;
the front surface of the product dominated by a screen surface with black borders;
as to the iPhone and iPod touch products, substantial black borders above and below the screen having roughly equal width and narrower black borders on either side of the screen having roughly equal width;
as to the iPad product, substantial black borders on all sides being roughly equal in width;
a metallic surround framing the perimeter of the top surface;
a display of a grid of colorful square icons with uniformly rounded corners; and
a bottom row of square icons (the "Springboard") set off from the other icons and that do not change as the other pages of the user interface are viewed.
Packaging trade dress claims
a rectangular box with minimal metallic silver lettering and a large front-viewpicture of the product prominently on the top surface of the box;
a two-piece box wherein the bottom piece is completely nested in the top piece; and
use of a tray that cradles products to make them immediately visible upon opening the box.
Looks to me like it's mostly LOLRectangle followed by a few LOLSquareIcons and LOLDesktop
no, none of these look remotely like an iPad. Except the Xoom, cause Apple have tried to sue Motorola for them. The rest haven't been sued because they're not black, with rounded edges and a single button with a rectangular screen.
Pretty much this. If you're a web developer, like me (or any kind of developer for that matter), you kinda need to be able to do things that just aren't feasible on a tablet. Like run a test server, install and test on multiple browsers, run virtual machines to test on other OSes (like the mobile OSes for example. God bless Androidx86) and, you know, running at more than 1024x768 isn't such a bad thing either.
You know, all the little things we take for granted on a desktop disappears when you use a tablet.
Kidding aside, why would you avoid any framework if it gets the job done? Limiting yourself to one solution only limits what you can get done. Why drop Symfony 1.4 at all when it works for you? (honestly I don't know, I've never used it, or 2.0)
If it's RAD your after, personally, I can't think of anything better for it than MVC in ASP.Net. Sure it might be slow and bloated, but when your balance that against the fact you can build a working system in an afternoon it's nothing to be sniffed at.
However, that would require learning C# or VB, and since you don't have that in your skillset, it's probably not going to happen. As a few people have said above, Drupal is more like a framework than the CMS it started out as, and I've used it before (although, I admit, not for a few years) and was reasonably happy with it back then. You already have the skills required to develop for it and it's got a decent community to help you over any stumbling blocks.
Adobe are not abandoning flash on the web. It's abandoning flash on mobile. Show me where it says Adobe are abandoning flash on the web browser? From my understanding of the situation, they're pushing it as the new Shockwave in all but name, what with the whole Hardware 3D graphics engine they've put in the latest version.
The reason they're discontinuing on the mobile platform is so they can stick to computers that have dedicated graphics cards and therefore have a better chance of making it work well cross-platform.
I like Nuclear Power, but it has a massive problem if it's poorly managed. Even just one cock-up can cause a major problem. The fear is justified, since If I know anything about the Human Race, it's that we can grossly mismanage things.
They're behind you!
I was hoping it wouldn't be THAT obvious.

Then ofcourse you had the blitz that levelled alot of London again. That just made things worse.
I did, but then again I'd read the story in another feed long before /. picked up on it...
and Iran can have as many of them as they like!
it's the sound of the fleeing escape goat
My mum buys her groceries online. Gets them delivered.
Umm, I have an office suite on my Xoom. With WP, Spreadsheets, graphics.
It wasn't *free* mind, but it was £5, which is a hell of alot less than MS Office.
As for malware, it's been proven that malware can and has gotten past the ios app store filters. http://www.tomsguide.com/us/iOS-Apple-iPad-iPhone-malware,news-13122.html
All your post shows is that you're complacent.

I use my TV to listen to Digital Radio. It's got better speakers than the radio I have in the kitchen.
Seriously. Between that, Panel shows (like QI and HIGNFY) and the odd Film it's all I use it for.

what? No love for ASP.net?

It is!
It's a Triumph!
Huge Success!
and now everyone wants me gone.
I'd much rather sit on my couch and play a PC game than go out and buy a console.
Yes, my home PC has a couch infront of it.
Elite
Morrowind
Final Fantasy
Duke Nukem 3D
While I agree that consoles are holding back Graphics, you have your head up your arse if you think that the hardware is making games linear.

So you're suggesting a Disambiguation page?

water and SOAP. I lolled.
you could use Firebug or IE/Chromes Dev console to force the value/change the page.
Daffodils are fucking hardcore.
Aussies have Thongs on their feet, Americans have Fanny packs on their waist. Both are major clothing malfunctions in the UK.
