Agreed, and maybe the emotional makeup of those involved with the prosecution should be thrown into question. They are running around like chickens with their heads cut off, "OMGOMGOMG! Hang the bastard!"

It reminds me of an incident in my high school days. Someone drew a traditional Navajo symbol on a chalk board that bore a remote resemblance to a swastika. My Spanish teacher, a lady of Jewish descent, flew into an emotional rampage calling for the expulsion and prosecution of the offender. Fortunately, our school's administration was a little more rational about it.

In this case they should refer the kid to counseling, and keep an eye on him. But no, they are taking an approach that could actually cause damage, but hey everyone feels like they are doing something. They are just assuming its right in the light of other recent events.

Patenting the "keep the DVD as long as you like" feature, or the "Swap for a new DVD" on the return of the previous is ludicrous, and just because we don't like one player in this game doesn't mean they are wrong in this particular situation.

This is late, and could be redundant. Oh well.

This isn't all that surprising considering the only thing that really comes into contact with a toilet seat is one's ass. In modern society we all run around with our asses covered by at least one layer of clothing, if not two or more. So it isn't a good collection/deposit point for the average nomad germ. The hands however, are rarely covered, and often come into contact with things that other germ carrying hands will touch(read deposit germs onto). We sneaze into our hands, and then go on to touch light switches, doorknobs, handrails, etc. Which countless others will touch, and countless more have already touched. So we drop a couple germs, while picking some up. So, our disgusting hands deposit all these germs onto the keyboard . . .

Maybe this would be a little clearer if somebody did a test of the germ content of the average ass(gleut area only, the sphincter cant count it doesn't come into contact with the toilet seat, at least lets hope not) versus thast of the averag hand. I am willing to bet the ass turns out to be cleaner . . .

You aren't paying for the paper, components, newness, or anything like that. They are looking for a development relationship. They want customers that, as other earlier posts indicate, are looking to develop some mass marketed device. The $3000 is really the ante to weed out hobbyists, and other companies that are too small or not serious enough about a development like this. I work in the electronics industry, and have as both a customer and a vendor, and I have seen devkits like this go from $2500 - $5000. The people eInk wants to play with are used to this kind of expenditure, but also understand that they are getting more than a little piece of electronics attached to a piece of paper -- they are getting, as I said before, a design and development relationship, which they hope develops into a longer term relationship.

Congress passes this law, and what next? Registrations and titles for these devices? Otherwise this whole tracking scheme breaks down as soon as the individual sells it to another person, or donates it to a charity.

I personally couldn't even tell you the names of any of the people who have purchased my old printers. I donate them to the Goodwill. So, now I need to worry that someone else purhcases it, uses it for "EVIL"(Voice of Mermaid Man from SpongeBob), and I am the first stop during an investigation. "Sure you donated it . . . "

I guess that would mean that the charities would probably be required to collect information, and submit it any time they sold donated devices.

I don't care what anyone else says here, but this can get messy just about any way you think of it.
