Well, they probably figure that if you do a lot of design, compiling, scientific computation, rendering, or AV encoding while you're unplugged for 6 hours, you can probably afford a $4200 PB. If on the other hand you don't do much of that, then probably such a PB is not for you.
Much like I don't have use for a Hummer, but my Honda GL500 suits me just fine.
Instead of a powerbook, consider an iBook. I have an old G3 500MHz iBook, and it does just fine at websurfing and DVD playing. I do all my other stuff on my tower Mac, but an iBook is an excellent satellite, and doesn't cost as much as a powerbook.
You can't run 3d games in virtual PC... no emulation for a 3D card. So, unless they port BF2 to OS X, which maybe they already have, or plan on, no BF2 for you...
The writer could have steered the readers in the right direction by saying something like "B and G stand for Big and Gun, I'll let you figure out what F stands for.." So I'd like to propose another couple of translations: Big Fluffy Gun Big Frog Gun Big Ferrous Gun Big Female Gun Big Funky Gun Big Frightening Gun Big Fumanchu Gun Big Fermentation Gun...
without, of course. wasn't too hard, i got lost on the second to last level, so i found an invulnerability and quad damage right before i got to duke it out with the final boss. he didn't even lay a hand on me... i got it a few weeks ago in preparation for ET: Quake Wars
Not only that, but I don't think many people realize that more and more normal non-geek people are using Macs instead of Windows.
I myself have recommended Macs to 3 different people who have followed my advice and can't be happier about their decision, and yes they tell me that. (1 Mini and 2 iBooks) On top of that I've given away 2 used macs to my family. Guess how many times have they complained about shit not working since then? Not once. Furthermore 5 of my coworkers (in the office of 11) also use macs at home as their primary machines.
Things are changing. Those people who are swearing that Macs only have a 5% marketshare are going to be in for a surprise in a few years. (Maybe not so much in the EU, but in the US for sure.) I hope the rest of the world realizes how sweet linux can be as opposed to pirated windows. Live Enlightenment CD rocks.
Come on guys, we've just had a flamefest yesterday (quad G5s), and one this morning (Vista and WMP 11 are awesome OMGLOL!!!) I don't think she can take it any more capt'n!
Let's settle this now (yeah, right): OS X is not perfect. Apple is not perfect. Out of the box, XP is not as secure, efficient or intuitive as OS X. WMP is not as useful as iTunes. OS X has a more stable process and memory management and scheduling than XP
The only people who bitch about the high cost of MacMinis are whiny babies, who would bitch if Minis shipped with a blonde virgin, stating that they prefer brunettes.
What else. iPods are not as versatile as some other players out there, but they are very well integrated with software.
What else, I dunno. Oh yeah, games. What do I care, I got a used gamecube for 50 bucks and unplugged my windows box from the network...
Maybe they're taking a page out of WMP book and doing the hiding window thing. "WHEEEY USER! You thought you'd click on the desktop, but what you didn't realize in fact, was that you clicked on the hidden window!!!! OMGLOL! Since you clicked on the X button, we've gone and closed the WMP for you!!!! Enjoy your productivity!!!!"
True, I shouldn't have spoken as if he himself did all the work. Regardless, I'm sure there's a nice cell waiting for him in the U.S., courteousy of MPAA.
You do realize that antibiotics are for germs and bacteria and not for viruses? Chicken soup is good for the soul, but it hasn't been proven to stop viruses in their tracks. What you don't understand is that if a virus such as this was to mutate into an airborne virus it would be a lot easier to contract than Fatal Traffic Accidents.
Think about all the people you know that catch a flu every year. Not think about what would happen if one out of 10 of them die. (Considering that the mortality rate drops from the current 50% rate to a 10% during the mutation.) Truckers, teachers, grocery store workers, cops, doctors, hot chicks at the bar...
You guys are all funny. All you had to do was look at it from a different point in time-space. It is now a day later and the server and images are fine.
It's not about the resolution, it's about the compression. With h.264 even HD files can be compressed to a manageable size. With iPod's large storage capacity one could easily carry half a dozen movies on it. With a video out, all you'd need is a TV to plug it in.
The problems are, and I have no idea if they have been solved: -the battery life for outputting a movie -is the iPod beefy enough for h.264 decoding? (Possibly, through a dedicated hardware chip)
Well, we like GMail so much because before it came out, Hotmail Only gave us 2 Megs of space. And pundits like you claimed that 2 Megs are perfectly enough for anyone. All of a sudden, Google gives us a 1000 times more space and pretty well changes the way some of us think about email, customer service, and lack of Microsoft innovation.
If I decided to raise your salary to a 1000 times of what it is now, I think you'd be a lot more satisfied with me, than with your current employer.
Also free POP3 is useful as heck. Maybe Microsoft will be so kind and throw that at us too.
Not necessarily. Google makes products that work the best on MS platforms. Google Earth - MS only, Google Talk - MS only, but thanks to Jabber other OSs can piggyback. Google Desktop Search - MS only (IE 5.5 +)
All this talk about the mighty Goog toppling "Micro$haft" is pretty pointless, as it seems that google's code is not all that portable over different OSs and browsers.
It's like a parasite, you want to exploit the advantages of your host (being installed on 90 % of world's computers), but you don't want to kill it.

4 of those converts are mine, plus one in Europe!
And yeah, they all love it.
You can't run 3d games in virtual PC... no emulation for a 3D card.

I know it's a joke, but it's important to remember that it is a sterile desert on a different planet.
The kind of place you and I know to exist, but will never see it with our own eyes.
The writer could have steered the readers in the right direction by saying something like "B and G stand for Big and Gun, I'll let you figure out what F stands for.." ...
So I'd like to propose another couple of translations:

i don't want to make a "me too" post, but i just beat quake 2 last night. :)

That you can reduce the Aperture but you'd have to increase the shutter!
hardy har har
Well, this explains how they manage to compress a full episode of Lost overnight to H.264.
I'm hypothetically confused.
is the US the wife-beater and the rest of the world has a duty to stop it, or
is Saddam the wife-beater and US had a duty to stop him?
True, I shouldn't have spoken as if he himself did all the work. Regardless, I'm sure there's a nice cell waiting for him in the U.S., courteousy of MPAA.
now he won't be able to reverse engineer anynthing that circumvents the copy protection on Blu-Ray.
Mortality rates for this flu are right now at 50%. Passive smoking rates are at 30/6,000,000,000.
I believe that explains what the big deal is.
You do realize that antibiotics are for germs and bacteria and not for viruses? Chicken soup is good for the soul, but it hasn't been proven to stop viruses in their tracks.

It's not something to be taken lightly.
So is this evolution taking place, or is the Intelligent Designer designing a virus that could potentialy wipe out a whole bunch of us?
You guys are all funny.
All you had to do was look at it from a different point in time-space. It is now a day later and the server and images are fine.
Next time try not to be so three-dimensional.
It's not about the resolution, it's about the compression.

Here's a good real-world explanation of h.264 and what it can do for HD.

I had read the title as 20 Online Lawnmowers Want To Kill Your Television
Obviously I need a shot of coffee...
No offense, but it's not the fact that it doesn't say Apple on it.
It's but uggly, and doesn't support h.264
Sony PSP doesn't say Apple, yet is a fine portable video player.
I think you're flaming a bit.
Not necessarily.
