    I would love for NPR to start selling/distributing podcasts.
    That would make it so convenient to subscribe to certain programs like "Morning Edition" or "All Things Considered"
    Sure, you may say that I can schedule WireTap to rip the Real Media feeds, but it would be so much simpler to just get it nightly through iTunes, and synch it to the iPod.

    And to stay ontopic, I think 20-30 years from now, we'll be the ones telling our kids, "why when I was your age, we had 4 computers in the whole school with internet access. not only that but it was at 24K shared, and we had to congure WinSock on our own with nothing more than a command line. and if we wanted to play doom it took a week of preparation, and 2 hours of cable switching to get it to work. and it took 45 seconds to download just one image"

    Yes, you're right, the new trilogy is exactly like the crappy cartoons of old (GI Joe, Smurfs or Transformers.) (All of which were my favorites beyond belief.)

    Remember the relationship between Solo and Leia. How it was all uncertain untill she said "I love you" just before they froze him? And then he says "I know". That was awesome.

    The best he can come up with now is "I love you" "no, I love you" "hihihihi"
    No amount of bandwidth and hi resolution images is gonna make that enjoyable.

    This is all fine and good, but it would sure be nice to spend some of that money on writing classes, or directing semminars.

    Yes, all that technology is nice, but ultimately worthless, if the movies coming out of it have no substance.

    Except for one server which we don't even own, all of our servers (about 10) are RAID "backed up".
    One of these days is gonna be really fun.

    Would tape backup work for you? It's archival quality, but you get what you pay for...

    And supplement that with LaCie external firewire drives.

    I haven't had much time to analyze his postings, but it seems to me that they are mostly on Fridays. I have a state job, so we don't do anything on Fridays, and only marginal work any other day, so I suspect that TMM is either a state or government employee.

    You know, I completely agree with you.
    However, I think it's important to remember that most computers sold do have a legit copy of Windows. For example all of our PCs at work have 2 actual licenses. The first one is the one that the manufacturer had to put (XP Home, to get the price down) and then we put on our own XP pro, because we get the volume discount.

    Sure on a dozen computers I've built long ago I used a not so legit copy, but my numbers pale in comparison to legit licenses.

    Now I know better. I buy an old G3 or G4 that comes with OS X for family members.

    you're absolutely right.
    and lately slash's been swamped with " i wrote an interesting piece" blah blah blah.
    in most cases it turns out that the author only has a marginal knowledge of the subject.

    bloggers posting their own articles on slash are like an "official" announcement about apple & intel coming from wall street journal.

    these fscking bloggers are the campers of news industry.
    they keep doing their own thing and there's nothing we can do about them. we need some flamethrowers, or some snipers or perhaps a good spy to get rid of them.

    they've infiltrated slash and we're no better off for it. and slash editors, can we please start using official sources for the stories, and not just any schmoe with an opinion...

    No way, man. No amount of His Steveness RDF will work this time.
    I switched to Macs around 10.2 and have not missed anything about windows.

    Granted, apple could make OS X run just fine on x86, but what about my other applications? DVD rippers? Media players? System utilities? Am I gonna lose those?
    Of course, Apple doesn't have to switch to x86, but is it even possible for Intel to make the PowerPC architecture?

    Granted, this article may just be a bunch of hot air, since "official" announcements don't come from c|net, but rather straight from apple.

    I just can't believe that they would require all the software to be recompiled for x86.
    This could just put apple back in the pre-OS X era.
