Chinese engineers working for American companies in their China office have been stealing trade secrets for years. There was a famous case about 10 years ago where a large network equipment manufacturer based in the Silicon Valley had their entire CVS and Subversion repository stolen. How they found out was the American company had put an Easter Egg in the code and when they poked the software running the network switched made by a Chinese company the software printed out "Copyright "
Which was the name of the American company.

This shit has been going on for years and no one seems to want to do anything about it. The top management only see the size of the Chinese market and, really, the management is only there to collect their stock grants and then they are off to the next sucker^h^h^h^h^h company.

I've got a Galaxy S7 that I got for free for renewing my phone contract. Everytime a new phone comes out my attitude is "I'm not going to get a new phone unless either this one dies or I get it for free." I mean, do you really have to have the latest?

The equipment would have to be custom made, no one has manufactured them in decades and the old one have long since been hauled off to the scrap yard.

This and the fact that wages, adjusted for inflation, have remained flat for almost 40 years and the cost of housing has been rising much faster than inflation means that we are creating a generation that most will never own a house. A significant percentage will not start families. You might not care about this but keep in mind that since the end of the Second World War the American economy is dependant on young people getting married, buying houses and starting families. Consumer spending represents 70% of GDP. Buying a house and starting a family causes a good amount of spending on various goods and services. Without that economic activity its going to knock a hole in the American economy.
