Boycott that stupid review page, Everytime I've seen an article there or a review its behind the times or being promoted by the site owner..... I doubt that someone would truely submit a link to a 13 page review of ads and possibly some silent power supply (I couldn't see it, the ads took to long to load) unless they had something to personally gain from it.
not that the editors will hear me, but come on!!!!
I saw this movie last night, and I thought it was Hilarious! My friend and I were laughing constantly for the first 15 minutes, and the only parts I didn't appreciate were those not found in the book, and I still liked them, I just hadn't had time to process it. If you don't think its funny, then bugger off and go watch your "Die Hard 73: Die Hard with a Headache"
thats why you haven't heard of it! and even as we speak the number of intelligent "beings" are growing, and soon they will hunt you and your loved ones down
okay, moderators, this guy should have been modded up, but not as insightful, come on.... its very very funny, and I think it should be modde that way, not insightful (though its mark as such is an isnight into some of you moderators:) )
and thanks in advance for being vengeful and modding me down:)
wow thats an interesting jump, nightmare != "Unbelievable bleeping kill me now, makes horror movie seem comedy" move from one platform to another. I have nightmares. they are very bad dreams, but you get to wake up from them usually in less then 8 hours... they don't give me homicidal thoughts towords decision makers....:)
logic states a lot of things but id doesn't state that it's no harder to switch than to upgrade...
okay well this gets a +1 Flaimbait from me. Most of active slashdot seems to be underemployeed at this time so they have seen the results of this before. needless to say, fireing and outsourceing will come up in this one, but honestly people, can someone contruibute some ideas beyond cutting yourself? TCO reduction is always nice, centralization, consolidating servers so not every single 2 person app requires its own project server, reducing the number of one-offs would also be nice... just some thoughts
without having a very very indepth view into your IT world, the way to save money, is to start saying No to new projects and reuqests... even if staffing costs stay the same implementation costs on the IT end always go up in some aspect or another. if you limit the scope of what IT will handle, costs will end up going down.
well some sort of WikiBattlestarGalactica would be awesome with giving everyone on the creative end of the show the ability to do whatever they want. JMS had the lurkers guide as his announcement to the world about B5 stuff so now that every TV show has their own web page, a fan centered site with as much knowlege is harder to come by. damn comercialization of the net.
in response to your other comment, I did almost that for B5, and then did that all the time for Farscape, which wasn't as good story wise but each individual episode was so fantastic, it was hard to delete it off of tivo... I think I still have the last episode before the mini-series.
as for the lurker guide, I read almost every word on that site, I spent a good 2 hours a day reading it for a very long time and I still check it once in a while
supporting people creates a sort of indetured servitude, and unless you are moving to do it full time, only support the projects that you have done. consider everything else a favor, and collect when you can. that way they have no real way to drag you down into it and you don't have to worry to much.
Or you can charge 2 x $[your normal consultant rates] and cash in till they find a way for you not to have to support them
I don't suggest this as a good way to run a buisness, just as someone who doesn't want to do helpdesk
I became addicted to B5 around 10 years ago(?) and considering I read every word ever written on the Lurkers guide, you would think I wouldn't make that mistake.
I gotta say that Enterprise has been better this season, but I feel like it's still only mediocre. Battlestar Galactica might be the best SciFi airing right now. And I woulda chipped in for more Firefly in a heartbeat
I agree with CmdrTaco.....
You know how hard that is to say with a straight face?
Okay I mean, I don't care if Enterprise is doing better so far, last season was an absolute waste of time in my book, I can't believe they wasted a whole season not working on forming the federation. there are so so many interesting things to talk about and talking about some of the issues that they are coming up with in this season but they still spend to much time on fluff episodes.
and BattleStar Galactica? Its is THE BEST! it has the story arc possibilities of RMS's Babylon 5, with a much better cast, and I believe a lot more moxy and touches on more human issues. And I like the way they have put it together so far, I actually have started staying up on Friday to watch Galactica when I get home, even if it keeps me up to 4 AM
Don't you think that if there was a holy grail of Linux distros, that there would be more then one Linux distro? If people agreed on what you asked, there would be less distros to choose from, unfortunately all of them have their downsides, thus listen to what everyone says about their favorite distro, and do what I do, choose Slack. Oh you want a reason? How about "'caus"
Honestly I would choose slack or debian (different reasons for each) and then boot off network, change one image you change them all... then have box specific apps on the local hard drive etc. BTW: get a lot of ram
Okay this wasn't exactly the use that I had thought of an IP based communications grid and I for sure am not the most knowlegeable on the subject of radio communication arrays used by NASA et al but isn't it time that we have a formalized "cell" network in space to best aquire signals from microsats and such? reduce the cost of individual launchs by already having everything up there that you need to communicate with and then just move forwards with less communication equipment and more mission core equipment?
can someone who knows more about this tell me why this hasn't been done?!?
the problem that while the programing language might be useful, the enviorment is not well designed. if it were such, then security would not be a big issue. Most applications of ActiveX can be programmed in other server side programming. MS has yet to come up with a viable security solution besides shared trust, which would basically work if it was more supported by the organizations that would require that type of shared trust, like banks, who should not be foolish enough to work with ActiveX extensively until it is fixed. Chicken and the Egg
"Firefox isn't perfect. It still has some bugs, which isn't surprising considering it only recently came out of "beta" or testing mode. It also can't do much with pages that require features only Internet Explorer has, such as the ability to run Active-X programs. These features are part of the reason IE is so riddled with malware, but they also allow it to interact with certain websites."
Perhaps these websites should move from building apps with ActiveX? just a thought:p
you sucsessfully made me log into AIM for the first time in months ti see if I was affected, only to be greeted by annoying friends from a long time ago with LONG TIME NO SEE...
you are one of those people that justifies your position with "But I interviewed 100 people each month for the last 3 months!"
instead of clicking next every 5 wordsg e=print&id=7 will help a lot

why is it that two of the urls have dw.com.com redirects? smells fishy to me

a good page to take a look at is http://www.cdc.gov/nip/dev/jetinject.htm Its the CDC's index to the technology and hasa lot of useful information
Someone got his blog pointed at slashdot, while I love the subject, its 4 days old, been on blogs for 3 days and a poor cut and paste job from the original Press release.http://www.berkeley.edu/news/media/release s/2005/03/16_microjet.shtml :)
Read the press release, its better

so sorry to offend.
