Obviously some Aussies did! The government offer we had a couple of years ago of free net-nanny software was a huge success! I wish they were still running that program, it was a great idea.
Even though ur an AC and will probably never even bother to check my answer, I will tell you.
While some people seem to think that the internet will only give you what you ask for, well, I'm afraid that it just isn't so. There are so many things out there that are either a)illegal in pretty much any country or b) just plain unsuitable for the majority of people. For that reason we have (fairly lax) censorship on TV and radio. Even with pop-up filters and the rest, we've all ended up at sites that we really never wanted to go to. As the internet gradually takes over from TV and radio, I think that the same protections for families and the more sensitive, as well as the law, should be in place that are already in place on TV. Porn channels are readily available on cable for those who want them, but you have to opt in. Do the majority of households want porn streaming into their houses? Probably not. They don't opt in. That's freedom. Personally, porn should be available on the internet on an opt in basis. Child porn and other abuses of like ilk just should not be there. Cut the balls off the guys who do that kind of crap. They don't deserve to have anything swinging there at all. Just like the ratings system encourages an opt-in approach instead of opt-out, so I feel the internet should be.
I certainly do share your concerns in regards to the stifling of political debate, but Australia is not like other countries. Once it is clear that the filter is being abused, it will have to be changed. Do not think that the current proposal will last too long in practice. Parent and religious groups will test it and find it does not work effectively and demand better filtering, the same groups might ask why anti abortion sites have disappeared. Things will change. I only see it as a starting point. Not as fair or as well though out as it should be. It will be improved on.
And that is my free speech. I do not insist that anyone agree with me. I am as entitled to my view as you are to yours.
Personally, I'm in favour of censorship on the Internet, as we have it on TV and radio etc. I see no difference. I am not quite as happy with the current proposed implementation. As I run a PC repair business, I have received a lot of requests for home internet filtering etc. I'd say that the majority of families that I've seen have asked about internet filtering. Many people do want it.
The question that I want to ask, is why so many Americans etc want to get involved in what is our own choice here in Australia. As a nation we generally like and expect some censorship. What is that to you? What is it to Anonymous? It's our nation and we can do as we like with it.
We elected this government and the previous one which planned the censorship originally. Unlike the USA we actually do have a pretty democratic system here. Let us run our country as we like!
Actually the article said that looking back, things seem to have taken longer, while instead of relating it only to set experiences, I put things at the level of the general experience of our entire environment.
I always thought of it as filtering. As we grow older, our brains develop in the way they filter incoming stimuli. The fewer things that actually need our brain's attention, the faster time seems to go. One finds though that in a new and stimulating environment, say, in a new country, time feels slower, but in a boring or familiar environment, time often seems to rush by - especially if our minds are focused on one thing to the exclusion of other stimuli.
Jeez, what's the big deal?>Why are we so quick to promote a high level of body-image self-consciousness (and then turn around and blame it solely on the media) for such mundane things as our naked bodies.
To expose ones body or to preserve one's modesty is not a question of body-image. It is simply a matter of choice and sometimes of culture. For example, in Nepalese culture (I've chosen Nepalese culture as I do a lot of work with young people from Nepal), men are generally shocked by the fact that Australians and Americans shower together after swimming at a public pool. They think it is disgusting! These same men have far fewer hang-ups about their bodies than their Western counterparts. They don't seem to care about penis size, or get worried if they think they are developing early or late. As long as the muscles in their arms look half decent, they're happy. Meanwhile their Western cousins are still stressing out trimming their pubes to make their dick look longer in the gym shower and keeping a tape measure in their bedside drawer...
Some people think differently to you. They are not wrong. They have every bit as much right to their opinion and the privacy and choice over their own bodies as you do. If you want to walk down the street naked, go ahead, but don't say other people are wrong when they choose not to.
I grew up on a mountain, so parking in gear against the slope is 2nd nature.
Surely this isn't a new hack. Someone must have done this a long time ago. When I can ring my car to come and pick me up from the front door, THEN I'll seriously be impressed...
They tried to tell me my son needed Ritalin and that he had ADHD because he acted up in class and wouldn’t pay attention. I took him home, busted his little butt and things were fine from then on.
This is a pet peeve of mine. While there are kids that really do need help, too often the system just wants to put a label on the kid and shove a pill down his throat instead od dealing with what is really going on. I had a stepson that was on all that ADHD krud. When we got custody the first thing I did was take him to a new doctor and then started disciplining him when he needed it. He was fine and still is. It is so much easier to not have to deal with a situation, lets just make a generation of zombies and forget about them.
I just with I could mod this one 'good and loving father'. After working around kids for years, it's the ones who are consistently and fairly disciplined that know not only where the boundaries are, but they know that they're loved and as a result tend to be a lot more balanced emotionally.
If we continue to allow such invasion to our personal dignity as full body scans, scatter ray etc in public places WITHOUT DUE REASON OR WARRANT we are only one step away from having cameras and microphones in all of our houses. For anti-terrorism measures, instead of investing far more in either more labour intensive approaches such as metal detectors or explosive/chemical sniffers, governments have chosen far more invasive options with dubious increase in safety for the innocent.

Yes I did. That does not mean all Australians.
Personally, I'm in favour of censorship on the Internet, as we have it on TV and radio etc. I see no difference. I am not quite as happy with the current proposed implementation. Did I say that 'every' Australian feels like I do, or did I say that Australians 'generally' approve of some censorship?
Looking forward to the Pax China soon! Haha!

Why is it riskier than buying American? NSA, FBI, CIA... Sheesh! It's the pot calling the kettle black!
I like your reasoning.
And sometimes time goes away. I tend to notice this most when I become absorbed in a good novel.
I've lost whole days that way... Or when I'm writing code. After a day or so I realise I'm hungry...

CANARIES. Convict Army Nearly All Retarded Inbred Evil Sheepshaggers.
Lies, damn lies and bloody statistics.
0% of people surveyed were surprised in any way by TFA.
Or it just agrees with it. Writing errors!=evolution.

Because they fund half of the USA?

I just go to OptusZoo and it's there.
Mine is with Optus. Nothing is free on Three. They're blood-sucking scoundrels.
Install a turnstile. Problem solved. Where's my fee?
It seems different providers in Aus just make TV available over 3G. No stress about it here.
Great response mate. Better thought out and more interesting than my own.
