You know upgrading your utility costs? Getting the capitol together to replace your data center is more difficult than in the case where you are replacing your server with something that uses less power. Am I missing something? If you don't have the cash you don't have the cash.
I know that the comment was made in a sense of fun but I would like to point out that the majority of people in the US have sufficient insurance to pay for most of a broken arm.
Another comment that was silly was about contractors that stay quasi permanently in a position- do you really think it serves the best interests of the organization to turn over the staff every few years? That would be chaos.
...and the better your memory the more you can make use of the internet. I really don't understand your point about google- are you saying people just google things and look at the search results to come up with ideas? People find stuff with google, read the web page, and if they want to use the data in the future they will re-do the search. I am sure living next go a large good quality library (and taking advantage of it) will also change how you remember things.
I will agree the article of the OP is kind of silly.
Your example defeats your argument. Nobody needs to memorize Moby Dick or Treasure Island to relate them together. Reading a book is not the same as memorizing it. If you were going to write a thesis on this you would just go back to the books and find the passages that back up your assertion.
No/. thread is complete until without an auto analogy- linking quantum mechanics to thought processes is like suggesting that relativistic effects are making your car run. In reality the scale of the movements in your are are so far from being relativistic you can pretty much ignore them.
I agree to a point- but at the very least taxes shouldn't be created that obviously go against the common good when they could easily aligned in such a way.
Reading the old 'amateur scientist' articles that explain how to build linear accelerators or lasers make me weep for SciAm.
Gross!

What about the soldered in battery?
If your data center has limited power the savings go far beyond the price of the unit.
They will even take your social security from you- no way to discharge these loans.

A black roof actually radiates heat more readily than a white one, so if it is cold and dark out the white roof will actually keep you warmer.

You cherry pick an example- just because I can't remember the weight of an electron doesn't mean I won't know how to apply it.
My first thought was what is this trans-vesta spacecraft wearing?

How will the shark tanks work in space with zero Gs?
The illustration in TFA shows the beam bouncing off something- I would guess it was a plane or satellite.
He is if he wants to be!
Raising kids properly and staying on top of their schoolwork is HARD WORK, the same thing that gets you out of poverty.
Nice sentiment, but if Bill G. is the right person for the job right now the board should hire him.

I switched for a while and the performance is superior- but the interfaces are so horrible I switched back.
When you lack inspiration, fix something that isn't broken!
Antenna would probably work at a much higher temperature than semiconductors so it might be possible to focus the light on a small area.
It's pretty easy to convert visible light into infrared- ie black paint. I doubt it would be hard to find a material to do it in a narrow range....
Must be 'Stockholm Syndrome' ;-)
