    Does anyone really want to watch a game of Basketball where the height distribution of the players perfectly mirrors the height distribution of the general population?

    That's an interesting question. Having variability in height can add a lot to the dynamics of the play. Personally I think watching high school or college sports is more interesting than professionals...deadly dull.

    My assumption would be that this discussion is mostly about movies created by the US movie industry juggernaut... opportunities to see foreign films in US movie houses are vanishingly rare. I would agree that there are still great movies made outside of the US.

    I hope you are joking. While women have had three or four decades of opportunity to do nobel prize winning research or start a billion dollar company there haven't been any. Men have a greater drive to try crazy things- that is what created the modern world and is what alleviated all the 'sufferings' you mention. Not to mention that men are currently suffering in every educational and economic metric.

    There are two types of movies being made now:
    flash bang glitz that might benefit from a large screen but offset by garbage plot and dialog, not worth paying for so I watch at home
    indie-ish movies with good story and plot but don't really benefit from the big screen so I watch at home

    And your local NOC the POTS go over could be out too. I will take my chances without one. My sister lived right down the street from the WTC and right after the planes hit them on 911 gave her a call. The phones were jammed and we couldnt get through yet we all somehow survived....

    In all likelyhood if things are so bad your wireless won't get through, the emergency service will be overwhelmed so your call is pointless. They are doing you a favor.

    I can't remember the specifics but I believe there are laws forcing them to maintain the copper line

    That's funny. Even without knowing anything about him, I believe he has one of the most punchable faces I have ever seen. He looks kind of like an evil keebler elf.

  24. Not even sure what you are arguing here. If sapphire lenses were so fragile that they weren't worth using, watch makers wouldn't use them. Obviously whatever tradeoff you believe exists are outweighed by the benefits. Another thing that is obvious is that you have never worn a watch... not sure how it compares with a phone but if you are at least moderately active, they take an absolute beating.
