Earlier this year however, I discovered that a well-known company had taken the code - disappeared underground with it for several months, improved upon it, utilized the capability in their advertisements and demos and in the end posted the code utilizing their own source control system, detached from any state of that of the upstream project's. Even to the extent some posters around the web thought libhybris was done by that company itself.
That kind of behavior ruined the initial reason I open sourced libhybris in the first place and I was shocked to the point that I contemplated to by default not open source my hobby projects any more. It's not cool for companies to do things like this, no matter your commercial reasons. It ruins it for all of us who want to strengthen the open source ecosystem. We could have really used your improvements and patches earlier on instead of struggling with some of these issues.
The original version was vastly more superior then what kinect is offering. There was a lot less lag and overlapping bones weren't any problem. Microsoft removed hw stuff and countered that with software, but the end result was a system that was usuable but a step back from the original design. I wouldn't call that innovation.

What about the fact that you clearly don't know the European directive regarding micro usb. They are as compliant as there is a Micro USB adapter. The European directive doesn't state that every phone manufacturer needs to convert to micro usb but give the possibility of reusing micro usb adapters (through adapters, etc) So it would be stupid to fine a company because they are in compliance.

And btw I'm an android developer but my main tablet for example is still an iPad. The thing that harms andriod seriously is fragmentation, bad documentation (quality, not quantity) , less strictness which results that a lot of hw companies are sloppy, weak support for older devices, no really good design guidelines,... . For me it is the Drupal of the mobile world. Not a bad platform, but it sometimes drives me nuts.

The difference is that in the slashdot crowd you have people that are more critical but that modelled on facts and knowledge. And thats a problem that the RPI community, like I've read on their forums a couple of fays ago. There is such a thing as free speech within the rpi community. Its disgusting to talk about free (like in speech also) products like linux and mention in the same time the rpi.
They are selling that well in the benelux countries that Nokia is dumping Lumia phones on aldi, a discount supermarket chain. A model that sold for 499 euro six month ago for 199 euro. I still wouldn't want it for that price to be honest.
It is ironic because it is people like RMS and people like you who praise him for his views, that are a part of Apple's succes.
The problem is that those jails serves a function. When you enforce very strict rules how somethings behave or look that it is decreases the learnability factor and that users will perceive it as easier to use. Even the "elegance" (look at the aesthetic usability effects) has a role.
You can argue that those "jails" aren't needed but unfortunately a lot of developers (and FOSS developers are even worse) couldn't design a good usable interface when somebody doesn't hold hands. Give them too much freedom and you will get things like The Gimp. It's a catch 22. It is the same reason why I see a big difference in quality between what is available on my android smartphone (where you can do much more what you want) and on the iPad. I'm not convinced that it is because iOS developers are so much more talented.
I don't think Jobs has been praised because of the jails, but because he has the balls to go the other way in a feature driven world. My mother doesn't care about multicore, SD cards, roots or any of that other stuff that would be the demise of Apple as so much predicted here on slashdot. The only thing she wants is a device that is easy to pick up.
