Microsoft did say that if a disc was used with a second account, that owner would be given the option to pay a fee and install the game from the disc, which would then mean that the new account would also own the game and could play it without the disc.
and simcity like "features"
Xbox One will give game developers the ability to create games that use Microsoft’s Azure cloud computing service, which means that they might be able to offload certain computing tasks to the cloud rather than process them on the Xbox One hardware itself. This would necessitate the game requiring a connection.
No. The FOSS community simply realizes that most of the so-called Photoshop users here are just degenerate pirates.
Even photoshop elements that they give away with every camera or scanner is miles better then The Gimp regarding usability. You don't need to pirate to get products that are better then The Gimp. Hell even Paint.Net is a lot better.
Real professionals will probably just bite the bullet. They are already paying for the product anyways.
I'm convinced that using a "free" product like The Gimp is more expensive (if you keep in mind that time is also money) then paying 10$ per month for Photoshop.
I think they have the same trouble as here in Belgium. A lot of local islamic extremist are recruting young people on the street to fight in syria. I think it are those kind of people that are the targets of these kind of surveillance.
Earlier this year however, I discovered that a well-known company had taken the code - disappeared underground with it for several months, improved upon it, utilized the capability in their advertisements and demos and in the end posted the code utilizing their own source control system, detached from any state of that of the upstream project's. Even to the extent some posters around the web thought libhybris was done by that company itself.
That kind of behavior ruined the initial reason I open sourced libhybris in the first place and I was shocked to the point that I contemplated to by default not open source my hobby projects any more. It's not cool for companies to do things like this, no matter your commercial reasons. It ruins it for all of us who want to strengthen the open source ecosystem. We could have really used your improvements and patches earlier on instead of struggling with some of these issues.
The original version was vastly more superior then what kinect is offering. There was a lot less lag and overlapping bones weren't any problem. Microsoft removed hw stuff and countered that with software, but the end result was a system that was usuable but a step back from the original design. I wouldn't call that innovation.
That could be the case but this is part of a agreement that was settled because of the period they had a monopoly...
Furthermore, Apple is doing far more egrarious violations.
I personally don't see where, but if you have a valid complaint put your money where your mouth is an fill a complaint... . But something tells me it is more talk... .
What about the fact that Apple refused to convert to microUSB with the new iPhone 5. Where is there fine.
What about the fact that you clearly don't know the European directive regarding micro usb. They are as compliant as there is a Micro USB adapter. The European directive doesn't state that every phone manufacturer needs to convert to micro usb but give the possibility of reusing micro usb adapters (through adapters, etc) So it would be stupid to fine a company because they are in compliance.
At least Microsoft lets me install an alternative browser
What the f*ck are you smoking ? On OS X you can install chrome, firefox, opera, safari,... .
Because of the bigger range of quality apps to be honest.
And btw I'm an android developer but my main tablet for example is still an iPad. The thing that harms andriod seriously is fragmentation, bad documentation (quality, not quantity) , less strictness which results that a lot of hw companies are sloppy, weak support for older devices, no really good design guidelines,... . For me it is the Drupal of the mobile world. Not a bad platform, but it sometimes drives me nuts.
People that say things like "they think the software is better... And are greatly mistaken" have never used the two platforms on a daily basis. Android is slowly getting there, but the really big problem is that a lot of devices are still suck on 2.3 gingerbread. It would be nice if android hw companies would support their older devices as Apple does with older hardware. An iPad 1 being stuck on iOS 5 is nothing in comparison with a lot of android situations. And the number of normal people (non geeks) that root their phone is zero to none.
To be honest with Android I have the feeling that a lot of love gets into the advertisment or google services part of the os, but it lacks in the other departements. The Android API (especially the older versions) sometimes amazes me in stupidity.
Heads up gamers, nobody wants to watch videos of you playing games, especially not your family or coworkers who are not 60-hour-a-week gamers, so please stop sending us Youtube links, okay? I'm never going to play in the NFL and you are never going to make a living playing games in your mom's basement, deal with it.
I'm not particularly interested in streaming video about games, but seeing the popularity (also regarding viewers) in these services I won't say that nobody wants to watch these kind of video.
This hasn't been an issue since then because the python.co.uk domain has, for most of its life, just forwarded its traffic on to the parent companies, veber.co.uk and pobox.co.uk. Unfortunately, Veber has decided that they want to start using the name "Python" for their server products.
Seems like a cheap way to abuse the popularity of python to try to sell their own products. This is a company that I surely will ignore if they come in my path, don't like that kind of shenanigans.
The lack of x acceleration or progress don't surprise me on this board. People that are smart enough to write something meaningfull, can pierce the whole "open source" bubble.
At first I was a big fan of thx project, open source drivers, the education pov,... But after open source shim drivers, the hostilty against other platforms , the constant barrage of slashvertisments , the negative attitude when somebody dares to be critical,... That is not the case anymore.
Maybe you should ask that question to the organisations that trained him. It wouldn't surprise me that the whole psychological warfare is something that he has picked up. You guys do live in a country that proudly can put their name with nord korea, china, etc regarding torture and other pretty things in "war".
Simple... If Facebook has the guts to do it. Turn all of Facebook off.
The problem is that all the facebooks or Google's of this world, has patents them-self and are part of the problem. They could the thing they do in a hear beat (and it isn't the first time that I see this mentioned) but they would cut in their own skin.
As described in the book "opening the xbox", it worked on Bill Gates nerves that sony was to powerfull in the living room and it could use its weight to influence what became new standards in the living room. Look at the DVD for example how the ps2 accelerated the adoption of this format. Microsoft dream is about Microsoft everywhere
The same thing happend with blu ray that totally destroyed microsoft hd dvd push. The xbox never has been about gaming and I'm even sure that for the next xbox the focus will be also bigger on non gaming capabilities.
The irony of the whole thing is that the xbox seriously weakend their windows platform as it weakened the argument "I need windows because I want to game"
Wordpress is popular because of the lamp stack. Regardless of personal feelings against a lamp setup, but if the goal is to be the "wordpress" of discussion software I will say good luck wit that ! I think the fact that it is written in ROR, will make this a very hard goal to reach.
It sometimes baffles me how clueless some people are working in IT as "manager". Since when aren't you allowed to write an importer for an ini file that is publicly availabe. That ini file wasn't even written by piriform.
I think this is a case of a manger that wants to get good points from the upperhand, not knowing how ridiculous her/his requests are.
What? The digital copies of games are usually priced lower than their disc-copy retail counterparts.
In the rest of the world (I presume you are American) Steam is ridiculous expensive sometimes as they do the 1$ = 1€ thing. The only times steam is cheap is in sales, when you buy a steamwork games on amazon.co.uk (I have had times that it was 80% cheaper !) , GMG, etc.
Maybe this a local thing but the nutrition facts are printed on the mcdonald packages here in Belgium. That is the same for the meals of the french Quick.
Have you tried talking with Gimp developers ? They are arrogant and they are so hard trying for gimp not to become "photoshop" , that it isn't funny. It doesn't surprise me one bit that they have such a hard time to find developers who want to contribute code...
Really as a European I always look at the American gun discussion with a lot of humor (because the arguments are sometimes so unbelievable funny) and I think this is the case for most Non Americans. Even for the assault rifle having (with no bullets) swiss that always seem to be abused in these discussion.
But I was under the impression that owning a gun was for the second revolution/protection. To put guns in the hands of the good guys. If the arguments is that it makes it easier for criminals to steal weapons , doesn't that just contradicts the believe that guns are needed for your own protection ?
This is why I always find these discussion funny and even as an non American I sometimes follow the discussions. It sometimes beat the best standup comedians if you hear gun nuts/NRA people make arguments.
Oh please like slashdot has the tendency to report about MAKE events... I like MAKE but in the stream of weakly non RPI news , I have a very hard time not classifying this as another RPI advertisment.
Fortunately, it's mostly only the slash dot crowd that is
Liz, is that you ? You know what my problem is with the rpi?
- an pseudo open platform (look at the drivers).
- the hostile attitude against other platforms while they wanted to spark a revolution (think about the children bla) and welcomed cheap alternative platforms. When you mention them on their boards it is totally not done and you have mods even want to delete those messages because it is unfair against the rpi. And I'm not talking about "rpi sucks" threads but "hey guys did you see this product ? Is it any good because the rpi doesn't suffice for my project."
- what really aggrevates me is that in the same sentences they insinuate that others surf on the rpi and the sale of other devices is bad for other projects. With regarding of ARM stuff it is existed whay before the RPI and while i could aknowledge that the popularity of the RPI helped to spark interest in these things, it doesn't mean that the popularity of other arm projects would stop that.
- the constant hostile attitude agains anybody that has some critical thoughts. I'm even 80% sure that seeing the classic liz remark about the slashdot community, that it is somebody from the rpi foundation that posted that remark.
The difference is that in the slashdot crowd you have people that are more critical but that modelled on facts and knowledge. And thats a problem that the RPI community, like I've read on their forums a couple of fays ago. There is such a thing as free speech within the rpi community. Its disgusting to talk about free (like in speech also) products like linux and mention in the same time the rpi.
They are selling that well in the benelux countries that Nokia is dumping Lumia phones on aldi, a discount supermarket chain. A model that sold for 499 euro six month ago for 199 euro. I still wouldn't want it for that price to be honest.
It is ironic because it is people like RMS and people like you who praise him for his views, that are a part of Apple's succes.
The problem is that those jails serves a function. When you enforce very strict rules how somethings behave or look that it is decreases the learnability factor and that users will perceive it as easier to use. Even the "elegance" (look at the aesthetic usability effects) has a role.
You can argue that those "jails" aren't needed but unfortunately a lot of developers (and FOSS developers are even worse) couldn't design a good usable interface when somebody doesn't hold hands. Give them too much freedom and you will get things like The Gimp. It's a catch 22. It is the same reason why I see a big difference in quality between what is available on my android smartphone (where you can do much more what you want) and on the iPad. I'm not convinced that it is because iOS developers are so much more talented.
I don't think Jobs has been praised because of the jails, but because he has the balls to go the other way in a feature driven world. My mother doesn't care about multicore, SD cards, roots or any of that other stuff that would be the demise of Apple as so much predicted here on slashdot. The only thing she wants is a device that is easy to pick up.
I think there will be always a conflict in that regards between the FOSS world and the normal consumer.

Extremist versions of Islam (or any religion) for that matter isn't welcomed. You should look up what happend with Sharia For Belgium as an example.
And for somebody starts with the Catholic Church you should lookup "Operatie Kelk" which handles about pedophilia in the church... .
In Belgium you are free to have your religion (as it should be) as long if you don't do criminal things... .
